The Studio Academy of Beauty Salon

I’ve been attending school for about two weeks now and I’m really enjoying it! If you like the feel of a small, comfortable, homey atmosphere then this would be the school for you. The instructors are amazing and you often get one on one time so the learning is really easy.

January 2016 it will be one year since I started going to the Hair Academy of Beauty in Chandler to get my hair washed and styled weekly. I’ve received numerous compliments on my hair and color from men and women. I always tell people where I go to get my hair care needs taken care of by some very talented young women: Auney (graduated), Karen (graduated), Jace (graduated), Brittany (graduated), Mackenzie, Jade and Meghann. There are many more students I’ve missed. The instructors, Ms Jackie and Mr Adam are very thorough, professional and customer-​focused. For several weeks during the holidays they were booked and I couldn’t get in. I really missed seeing the people there! It was good to go back today! Some asked me where I’d been which made me feel good. They use quality products and Redken hair color. I’ve gone there for facials, waxing, eyelash and eyebrow tinting. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BEAUTY SCHOOL TO ANYONE! Everyone is very friendly and I’ve received very good care.

I’ve been going here since 2012 — most often for a cut, color, low or high light, which I recommend — however people this is a school so have the time to wait and relax– these are students ! Some are super fresh new therefore slow and cautious, others have been doing hair as a hobby and are here to get the licence and are quick and confident. When I find a student I like I will request them until they graduate. Calling in is sometimes a pain, no one answers, be patient call again — it’s a school. Do not recommend a manicure — the employees also will tell you its no more than filing and clipping your nails. Had a facial it was it nice.
Pros: Price, clean, newer equipment, honest and end product has always been good,.
Cons: Phone service is crappy, its a school so you need lots of time, and be flexible — the students change all the time.

I’ve been calling and calling forever to schedule appointments and they NEVER answer the phone. No one calls back if I leave a message. The hours of operation vary depending on who I speak to and there is no availability on many days because the «students will be in class» or «students are busy» even. during salon hours.

I came in for a facial… The Estie was very sweet but very much not prepared for a service she left three times to get product. Each time I swear was five minutes each. The whole service felt like a «I don’t care» about my client time. I’ve been to other schools and been to spas so I know how a service should go. At the end of the facial they should have forms for clients to fill out stating what was good and what was bad so the student can grow. I felt like I very much wasted money even if it wasn’t very much.

I got highlights done here and was not happy with the results. The highlights were sloppy and splotchy (especially near my part — the most visible area). They also left the toner in for too long which gave my hair a brassy color. I imagine that there is a lot of variability between stylists (especially since they’re students), so you might get lucky with a good/​more experienced student. I just don’t think it’s worth the risk.

Had an amazing experience with a young lady named Ariana from the cosmetology class, she took my hair and made it look amazing to the shape of my face. She was extremely professional and worked with care and style. Her work goes unmatched by anyone Ive let work on my hair before. Thank you!

A happy Salon Experience is a rare feat there is always something or the other that you feel they could have done better. My experience here was near perfection.
I got my hair done from them haircut, shampoo, color, blowdry and styling the whole deal. My stylist was very professional and pleasant she showed me a variety of options for coloring and explained how each shade would blend with my existing color she showed me pictures of how i would want it styled and what the final hair style would look like. She also refreshed my layers without compromising the length too much.
The instructors were vigilant and attentive. I would recommend to be prepared for a little longer than most professional salons (this is a beauty school after all).The prices are unmatched.
They use great products like Redken for color and Chi for styling, so that was a no-​brainer!
The tricky part however is getting an appointment so book well in advance. Once that is done i guess you’re all set. I’m definitely going back!

This location sucks. They advertise to be open for guest services Monday-​Saturday. So i called earlier this week to make an appointment, i must have called like 9 times and only twice did someone ever answer. And when I asked about scheduling something for a Tuesday, the woman said the students were busy all day on Tuesdays. So why advertise you are open Mon-​Sat?
Annoyed!

I am nervous to get a hair cut and color here. What kind of product do they use? Any suggestion or a student to recommend? Do you tip the student? If yes, what is the rate like 10%, 15%?

This is my fourth year as a client, returning for every cut and color, satisfied and refreshed! The students are professional, guided by on-​site instructors and excellent products. You can’t beat the price! Location is local, simple and easy to find. I’ll continue to use the academy for all of my styling needs! (Also, my favorite added bonus is watching Adam instruct, very nice! Especially on the eyes! ;))

Haven’t been able to get in contact with either of the owners, i graduated almost 2 weeks ago and they owe me money from a scholarship and state board. i feel like they are giving me the run around! I was not on financial aid and i payed monthly. on time every time and now they can’t get me my money how is that fair???

A fairly good place to go. I like that they do all services. Waxing, facials, hair. I’m used to the instructors having a little bit more influence and interaction. They came at the beginning of the service and the end. They just wear street clothes and were pretty loud amongst themselves. Not really like the school I went to.

Very impressed.
I bought a ridiculously cheap groupon for a facial and thought it was worth the risk. And I was right. It was probably one of the best, and I’ve had many. The ambiance is fine, not quite private or spa like, but definitely acceptable. The skin analysis and tips were great. I’ll come back for sure.

They pay great attention to detail in their work here, with instructors making sure students do their absolute best.
The deep conditioning treatment is a great value for $ 5. Highly recommended.
Don’t go for most services if you’re in a hurry though.

I had a Groupon for a European facial. I believe it was $ 15 dollars. I had Becca as my student aesthetician. She was awesome! They use top of the line products and take great care in doing all the steps necessary. I will definitely be going back. Great school, great people!

This place is great! I got a living social deal for $ 39 for facial, make up application, partial highlights and hair cut. Wow, right?!
My facial was heavenly. I felt so relaxed and my face feels great! Ive hqd facials done at other salons and beauty achools and this one ranks among the best. And for the price i could easily come get pampered once a month.
My make up application was alright. I asked for a more natural look (I didn’t want to leave with bright red lips, etc) so she hardly put anything on. Had to fix when I got home, but I looked at the make up part of the package as an unnecessary extra (a freebie) so I can’t complain.
My highlights and cut were done very well. I loved that the instructors were constantly coming around to check in, but in a very casual, helpful way. My stylist was extremely nervous, was shaking almost the entire time and didn’t say more than five words to me, but hey my cut and color looks awesome and it was super cheap. Again I can’t complain.
All in all remember this is a school. It took five hours for my service, back to back. If you are short on time, don’t come here. Be sure to look for a deal before you come or use the check in offer here on Unilocal :-)

I had my first facial wax and brow tint and then had a European facial. Enjoyed all of it. The gal listened to what I wanted and asked questions of her supervisor if she needed to. She did a great job with the brows but I did discover a small spot on my chin she missed. Overall a good experience and I will go back. Good treatment and you can’t beat the price.

I love this place.
Hair/​Nails: You are going to be here a long time if you get anything done on your hair. They are students after all. The instructors are super nice and will supervise most of the time. As for nails, skip pedicures here. They are mediocre and the polish chips and falls off after a few days.
Aesthetics: Waxing and facials here are amazing! I get the European facial once a month and LOVE it. It’s an hour and 15 minutes of bliss with a mini massage and a skin assessment. They always send me home with great samples too! Definitely get a facial here!

Rachel Hirn did an amazing job on my back facial and facial today. She was organized and thorough and she made sure she took care of all my needs. Rachel is aware I have fibromyalgia and knew I was also in a flare today. She was cautious and understanding and made sure that she catered to that fact. My next appointment is in two weeks and I cannot wait to see her again.

Never been to a beauty school before for a haircut, and one of my close friends recommended I give this place a try. She apparently only goes here… and has had success.
Me… not so much.
Everyone was friendly, but I guess I’d rather go to a «traditional» salon to get my complicated hairs cut.
First of all, the haircuts are cheap — $ 10. An extra $ 3 if your hair goes past your shoulders.
Since I’ve never been to a «beauty school» before, I asked the stylist how long they have to work there. And she advised that they’re there for a year, and then they get licensed and find a salon to work at.
My gal was friendly, but… apparently she was leaning when she cut my hair, so her teacher had to trim more off of my hair to get it all the same length. (Which my ends probably needed anyways…). But after that, I was like — «ahhh, yeah just a trim is good.» My hair is thick, and I always get it layered and texturized — so there was zero % chance after the «leaning incident» I was gonna have my layers cut.
There were more little «hiccups» in my experience there to make me feel un-​confident — — but I don’t want to bore you with my nit-​picky details. I guess I should have definitely asked my friend for the name of the stylist she sees there.
Oh well, it’s all the way in Chandler too… so kind of a hike for me.
(BTW, I know that there are regular hair customers there — cause the lady sitting next to me was saying hi to everyone. So she must have good experiences there.)
