Raymond P Roffi, MD PC

I have a torn ACL and have had one for almost a year now. It is not so bad as to cause me to be unable to walk — my leg doesn’t buckle and only hurts mildly. However, since my incident I have stopped any sort of activity that may injure my leg further — soccer, running, biking, bowling, hiking, etc.
I originally went to Dungy Orthopedic for my initial consultation. My opinion of him is expressed elsewhere on here but I will compare Roffi with him.
First and foremost the general attitudes between Dungy and Roffi are stark. Dungy is younger and spry. He likes to joke and even his office seems new. Roffi is just the opposite — he seems like he is having a bad day, never jokes and never smiles. he actually kind of seemed annoyed that I was there.
With that said, their actual examines were different. Dungy seemed more content with just reading the MRI report that I brought and explaining it to me than doing an examinination himself. He didn’t really offer any solid advice or pro-​con about my options. Roffi did an examination and tested my mobility and asked what I wanted to do with my leg in the future. Fairly simply he said that if I wanted to do sports again that I should seriously consider doing surgery.
On a separate note, the office pretty much demanded that I leave my MRI documents with them. I made it fairly clear that I wanted to see them as a second opinion. I’ve had multiple doctors involved in this and to just demand that I leave them there with them even though I haven’t decided what I want to do (surgery or no surgery, and if so, when) seemed kind of rude to me, especially since I asked for them back and they said they keep them until I’ve made my decision. Aren’t my records for my use, to give to who I want? I guess not.
I will have to write both offices and see who has done more surgeries and who has done them more recently. The reconstruction is simple, but the main thing is that the person with more direct and recent experience is probably the better person to go with for any surgery. From there, I should probably make my decision.
