Copperstar Repertory Company is a nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to entertain, educate and enrich community members of all ages by offering high quality productions, providing professional instruction in performing arts, and creating performance opportunities for Arizona’s youth and adults.

History

Established in 2008.

Founded in Gilbert, Arizona by an entrepreneurial and spirited group of professionals, Copperstar Repertory Co. is building a reputation for artistic achievement that has attracted both local and national support. Copperstar Rep prides itself on growing a highly recognizable brand that will become synonymous with quality, innovation, and dazzling musical theatre in the East Valley. Our goal is to bring the joy of live performance to thousands of people each season through our performances and education outreach programs.

Copperstar Repertory Co. presents a broad range of programming each season, including première youth theatre performances, Cabaret Café with visiting master performers and several outreach programs dedicated to enriching the educational experiences for community members of all ages.

Copperstar Rep presents its shows at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts, a 1,220 seat state-​of-​the-​art theatre built in 2006, and located in Gilbert, Arizona.

Meet the Manager

Mary-​Jo O.

Manager

Mary-​Jo is Copperstar’s founder and Artistic Producing Director, Mary-​Jo Okawa is an award winning educator who has been a professional director, choreographer and performer for over 25 years. A talented educator in theatre, dance and vocal music, Mary-​Jo is also an accomplished professional singer who has traveled throughout the United States, Asia and Southeast Asia sharing her talents. She is proud to have entertained our troops in the USO. Over the past three years, Mary-​Jo has built Copperstar into a reputable theatre company which offers enrichment, education and entertainment to community members of all ages through high quality theatrical productions, camps, workshops and classes. In 2010, Copperstar was honored with six Gilbert Mayor’s Arts Awards nominations and was awarded the Zelma Basha Salmeri Gallery Award for providing Gilbert with services enabling an expansion in the scope and quality of the arts.
