CDC Pools

I write this review hoping to save someone else from the bad experience I had with CDC Pools. I contracted them in October 2015 to resurface my pool. They completed the project efficiently, on time and on budget. I was pleased. Then I asked them to resurface my cool deck. That was an entirely different story. They didn’t show up on the scheduled day at the scheduled time 0800. I waited three hours and then called. I received a return call at 5PM explaining how they were ‘backed up’ because of the weather. I found it unacceptable that they would not have known that the day before and even more unacceptable that no one called to tell me. A crew of two showed up two days later. It took them an hour-​and-​a-​half to paint the deck and they were gone. I stayed off the deck the suggested three days then went down to inspect. I was very dissatisfied. The specific area of concern was not rectified («We’ll make that disappear,» the contractor told me. It didn’t.) and several areas were streaky as if they actually didn’t paint it. I called the rep. He showed up a week later, walked around and acted as if it was okay. It definitely was NOT. He said he would call in a warranty. That was the first week of November. Nearly three months later, a crew of four shows up last Saturday and says they are here to do the pool deck. «Don’t you call ahead?» I asked incredulously. «No one called you?» was the response. Obviously not. As the house is being painted and the painters were there doing it, I told the CDC crew this was not the time to do it. I sent an email to the rep on Saturday. Two days have passed and I have had no response. The service and quality of the job were definitely below contemporary business standards. In fact, I consider my experience with CDC Pools the worst contracting experience I have ever had in my 66 years. Even worse … CDC Pools charged me $ 3400 for this poor job to paint my pool deck. You do the math: two guys for one-​and-​a-​half hours … that’s not much labor, and the material involved? I do not have an Olympic size pool. It is 16,000 gallons. Bottom line from this completely dissatisfied customer is this: If you need work on your pool, stay away from CDC Pools. The price was outrageous, the quality is unacceptable by anyone’s standards and the service is non-​existent after they have your money.

Awesome is the word I would use starting with our salesperson and ending with the final product! Had a plastered pool that couldn’t be acid washed the stains were just to bad! The company we called for the acid cleaning actually recommended CDC Pools once we decided to resurface it. We shopped many companies and CDC stood out as the most professional company and priced really well compared to the competition. You won’t be disappointed if you choose CDC!

We couldn’t be happier with the pool remodel that CDC did to our pool area. It not only looks beautiful but the process was very smooth. We had 3 estimates in the beginning. For what we got CDC was the best price. Raphael & Daniel were our points of contact & they couldn’t have been more responsive. I would heartily recommend CDC!

Horrible, horrible, horrible. We hired this compony to retexture our pool. They quoted us 7k (not too bad). We paid half before the job started and the rest once the job is completed. At first they were supper nice and very responsive. While the job was in progress, we noticed they broke a pipe. They said it was all going to be taken care of and not to worry about anything. Once the job was completed they called us every day for payment. After constant pressure we finally paid the rest even though they promised they would fix the broken pipe. The job has been «completed» for over 2 months and we are still having issues. The pool light doesn’t work and the pipe is still leaking. We will never use them again and we will not recommend this compony to anyone we know.

They were awesome and worked with our landscaper to create a backyard oasis! Thank you!

We couldn’t have made a better choice than going with CDC. Every step of the process was handled professionally and with great care and concern for our pool, property and family.

I do want to say thank you to Justin and his crew. His response to my review is below. After several months, I did contact him because my pool had started to grow a mustard-​colored algae that had never grown before. Even though the problem may not have been the fault of the resurfacing, Justin arranged for the pool to be drained and acid washed free-​of-​charge. He even offered to pay for the cost of the pool to be refilled. The pool looks great now, and he and his staff followed through on what they said they would do. I appreciate it very much.

I had the chance to meet with the owners yesterday and these guys are definitely the pool experts. They specialize in repairing and remodeling older pools and know everything about everything when it comes to a backyard oasis. I was genuinely impressed and look forward to discussing more with them as we get closer to an install, renovation, or purchase.

I Love my pool don’t like what it took to get done. Employees are beyond friendly but not good at getting things done in a timely manner.

I dont even know where to start, CDC pools is unreliable, the communication is horrible, scheduling was a nightmare, to the point I had to get upset with them, we were told 4 weeks it took 9 weeks, ruined my yard were they stored a self made ‘water pit’.Our pool still does not run properly, and we have notified them several times and no one has gotten back to Us. Our firepit that was installed is faulty, still waiting for that to be replaced. I am so diappointed in CDC as a company. Look else where, avoid the headache & frustration of dealing with CDC POOLS!

We used CDC Pools to resurface our pool, pool deck and patio. The first thing to know is that their pricing is designed to encourage you to trade up to travertine pavers instead of cool deck and use their pebble product instead of plaster. The next thing to consider is that your salesperson will promise you the moon to make the sale, but do not expect to have it done unless it is specifically outlined in your contract. We wanted travertine and micro pebble, so the pricing schedule did not concern us. The tile recommended by CDC to go with our chosen pebble, however, did not complement as suggested when the pool was filled with water. We regret not staying with our original choice instead of taking CDC’s recommendation. Also, representations made regarding the temperature to the touch and slipperiness of travertine versus cool deck were very misleading.
We also ordered an all new filtration system… expressly stating that we wanted everything new. Believe it or not, we had to fight to get a new $ 10 pool leveler float installed and we still have a 30 year old (w/​out of code circuit breaker) pool light. Not in the contract. A broken valve to the pool’s water supply also had to be fought for, even though it was also expressly requested at the time of the estimate.
Our largest concern is simply the poor quality of the work. Broken travertine pavers were installed without hesitation. We forced them to change out over 100 pavers!!! And those were only the most broken!!! Clearly the paver shipment was damaged. Our job supervisor was at best just lazy. We are still waiting for some grouting that was not done (insufficient tile was ordered and the second round of tiling was very poorly installed). When the warranty guy looked at a broken edging paver, still not fixed, he said, «oh, they shouldn’t break this soon.» Normally a good point, but in this case it was installed broken!!! And did we mention the pool surface has caused numerous abrasions to swimmers? A guy with a snorkel came out with a pad to smooth our surface. We are not optimistic.
And did we mention existing stepping stones we had leading to the pool motor were not reinstalled and were found in a pile under a bush?
I think you get the idea. A great disappointment all around. With no apology or price adjustment from CDC. There seems to be a huge communication issue between top management and what is going on in the field at CDC, or perhaps just a lack of caring in both camps. I read other recent Unilocal reviews, with experiences so similar to ours, with interest.
The end result for our project should eventually be fine due to our persistence and our refusal to pay the last little bit owed until the work is completed. With so many pool remodelers in the valley, why go through the frustration of dealing with CDC Pools?
08/​26/​2014 UPDATE: The «warranty repair,» actually just completion of the original project, is still not done. Last Thursday, two guys showed up unannounced to replace a broken tile, but failed to grout it consistent with the rest of the pool. How predictable. And they were from the crew that we requested not work on our pool again. How typical. So we’re still waiting.
What prompted this update, however, is simply unbelievable. Leaving us bewildered. We received a phone message from CDC’s controller indicating that they were going to put a lien on our property if we did not pay the $ 2,000 plus we still owe (on a $ 35,000 project) by Friday. A lien!!! A threat!!! Claiming they had been calling us for payment. They hadn’t. We were simply waiting for the work to be completed.
The threat of a lien when they have not completed the work and, if anything, should be calling with an apology and a partial refund! Does no one there talk to anyone else? Or do they just not care? Note we received the threat one day after a CDC response on Unilocal offering to help and indicating that they had fired our project superintendent. What? It strikes me that the problems at CDC Pools are not going to be solved just by making one project superintendent a scapegoat.
A property lien or a partial refund by Friday? Make your bets. I’ll let you know.
09/​05/​2014 UPDATE: It’s taken a while, but a crew of several workers came out today and completed all repairs we requested. That said, the quality of the project is not nearly what we expected (or were promised), but it’s done. Thank you Unilocal!This review helped prompt the reaction. Further, CDC wrote a letter of apology at my request (which I’ve posted) and verbally waived the small amount we still owed. A little worried that the promise was verbal given our history, but I chose to be optimistic. No warm and fuzzy feelings toward CDC. Every time I use the pool I see imperfections. CDC management did, however, finally step up and provide the best outcome we could hope for at this juncture.

What a scam of a «business». These guys are the most unreliable company I have ever dealt with. I might as well just make a list.
–I was told 2 – 3 weeks. Took 7 weeks.
–I was sold on a white pebble, was given gray. Of course the salesman blamed it on ya and threw in his tough «contract» talk.
–there was NO communication between the superintendent, the office, or anyone else for that matter. They wouldn’t respond to calls, emails, or texts.
–they removed my old spa, but left it sitting on my grass for over a week (without my permission or knowledge), killing my grass.
–after adding a Baja step, they left a huge bag of cement in my front yard (without my permission or knowledge) damaging the landscape.
–the superintendent sold us on different lights than our original choosing, only to find out his pricing was way less than what the salesman advised.
–They would tell me I was the first job and be there in the am, show up around 3 or later. Sometimes vice Versa
The outcome of the pool is great. But I would never recommend this company to get your pool remodeled. Not even to my worst enemy.

They make promises they can not keep! Ruined coping stones and promised to replace them, only to be told «we don’t have any… too bad»

CDC did an excellent job with our pool remodel! Jerry was outstanding to work with, and was very helpful and responsive during the planning and construction.
We did a complete resurface of the pool/​spa, new waterline tile, new 1″ tiles on all the steps and benches, new LED lights, salt water conversion, new variable speed pump, and a fully automated wireless remote control system to control every aspect of the pool/​spa/​waterfall.
I have to say, the new automation is my favorite, because now I can be out having dinner with my wife at a restaurant and I can use my iPhone to start heating up the hot tub so it’s ready by the time we get home. Fantastic! And their pricing was very competitive on every aspect of the project. Definitely the best pool company in the valley!

First of all, CDC does not build new pools, they only remodel existing pools.
Our pool needed a makeover. The guy who does our pool repairs recommended CDC; however, I decided to get three other bids.
Not only was CDC far more knowledgeable about the pools, they were also the lowest bid. Our pool is a larger than normal residential pool surrounded by brick planters and mature landscaping. The yard has difficult access, and I am a perfectionist. This job was going to be challenging.
We decided to replaster, retile, and put in new decking (we had Kool-​deck from the 1980s.)
My most difficult decision was the decking — there are a lot of choices. CDC has all of the decking options OUTSIDE of their showroom. It was nice to check out the coolness of different materials in the summertime — just kick off your shoes, and walk around on the different types of pool decking. Pool interiors were shown UNDER WATER — the way you will see it in your pool. CDC works with wheelbarrows, NOT backhoes, so they didn’t want to tear down part of my brick fencing (a relief).
The work began — I was pretty nervous. Remember, I am a perfectionist.
I was amazed at how efficient the teams are at CDC. They explained to me how everything would proceed. They finished EVERYTHING in less than 2 weeks.
Each and every team (there is a chipping team, a tile team, a decking team, and a plaster team) were truly amazing. I was home every day watching these guys.
They are the hardest workers I have ever seen. They were very professional in their work, and also cleaned up at the end of each day. I had some trouble integrating
the new travertine decking with existing brick steps, but the deck supervisor made some suggestions, and it turned out BEAUTIFULLY.
I am so very pleased with our new pool. The new plaster, the new tile (a LOT of it), and the new travertine decking are absolutely gorgeous. Every stage exceeded my expectations. From a very picky person — I give CDC Pools my highest recommendation. Thanks, also, to Jim and Mark who were always available to answer my questions.
