Average Joe Auto Repair

I went to Joe based on the many excellent reviews he had on here and boy, did he live up to the praise! Joe was courteous, understanding, and very thorough in his work, which is very much appreciated. The cost was very reasonable, and he is a very honest person who explained everything he did and how. Will be coming back again!

Straightforward and honest guy.

Sir Joe Patton is hands-​down our new go-​to mechanic in Champaign. I recently bought an ’04 BMW X5 and my dad noticed a car leak one day, so they brought it to Honda-​BMW of Champaign and they asked $ 65 just to look at it!!! Also, my mom accidentally opened the window and it wouldn’t go up anymore– BMW’s service center asked for $ 800 since the electrical wiring is broken and I refused to have them do that. It was too expensive. I just shelled out $ 2k for the downpayment of this car! So nope. Not gonna happen. I searched on Unilocal for good auto repair shops in town and I chose Average Joe’s Repair Shop since it had a 5 star overall rating. I immediately contacted him and he answered promptly. I asked him if my parents could bring the car to his repair shop and told him the dilemma. He told me he was busy that day (it was a Friday) but he’ll see what he can do. I asked him to please help (since there was an upcoming snow storm that Saturday). To our relief, he was able to bring up the window and noted that the window regulator was functioning properly but had a broken part. He explained thoroughly what was wrong and what needed to be done, unlike BMW’s crappy service center. Although he explained he can’t do the whole repair right now since his schedule was tight. He accommodated me and my Bim. Ü He also did not push me to have it done– that it was my option. And you know how much his whole repair estimate was? $ 425! Almost 50% less than the service center. I was so relieved. So I went ahead and scheduled the repair to be done on Thursday next week. During that day, we also asked him to see if he can remove the Service Check Engine light that the BMW people can’t remove when I bought the car. They even said that the previous owner of the car shorted it and there was nothing they can do to fix it. You know what Sir Joe Patton did? He took it out easily. He is one awesome repair guy. Very dependable. We look forward to having him maintain and take care of my Bim and my parents’ 2 other cars in the future. :) He is a one-​man auto repair shop though, so make sure to schedule ahead of time.

I had car trouble this week, immediately after moving to the Champaign area, and didn’t have a mechanic or even know anyone to ask. I went to Joe after seeing the good reviews here on Unilocal and was not disappointed. He was professional, thorough, and communication was excellent. I would recommend Joe Patton to anyone and will definitely return there the next time we need auto repair.

Joe is a dependable and straightforward mechanic. I’ve taken three cars to him over the last 6 years and he always does competent work. On one occasion when I took my car in for a diagnosis and he was unable to find the problem after a focused inspection, he was honest with me and charged just a half hour in labor. If the issue came up again (it hasn’t) I’d still go see him first because he’s thorough, honest, and he answers my questions without making me feel uneducated about cars (even though I am). I feel good knowing that I have a reliable mechanic I can turn to here in CU.

Joe is conscientious, thorough, very competent, and trustworthy. Even when he’s busy, he is accessible and returns your calls and emails. I’ve had him as my mechanic for ten or more years and he has always done reliable work and made good referrals for work he cannot do in his garage. He never recommends more than what is needed for the repair and is ethical in his dealings with me.

Great mechanic, passionate about his work, very reasonable costs, was able to fix a problem with my old Mazda that two other shops can’t, specializes in old low-​value cars.
Cons: it’s a one man shop, so call before coming; the neighborhood is not nice

Average Joe Auto Repair is a great place to get your car repaired.
We used his service two times in our manual-​gear Subaru. Both times he did a a good job, have us a great service and always charged us a good fee for his service!
Highly recommended!!!
