Biplane Rides Over Atlanta

That have affordable deals. $ 39 can get you a 15 minute ride around Midtown. Unfortunately, due to major motion sickness, I was unable to enjoy most of the experience. The best part for me was the excitement of getting into the plane, gearing up with headphones, and taxi-​ing back.
I must admit that when I did manage to open my eyes in the air the view was great!
It’s a good experience and I would recommend to anyone who can tolerate some shaky liftoff and being so high in the air in a small aircraft.

We bought 2 tickets on Groupon for a bi-​plane ride around Atlanta. Beautiful day to go flying. My wife uses a wheelchair to get around. The pilot was very friendly and helpful. We had no problem getting into the airplane and getting out upon returning. It is a open cockpit aircraft so make sure to dress for cooler temps during the flight. If you get the chance I would really suggest going on a ride.

I purchased this from Groupon/​Living Social/​Scoutmob app for my husband. It clearly said that he would be in a 2 seater plane. However, when we got there, they had him in a 4 seater with 3 other guys. They then let a part of 2 go in the 2 seater plane. They clearly were trying to make $$ by booking people and hoping that they did not read the small print.
Also, they were offering rides there on sight for less than the «discounted» rate.
Overall, it was a nice gift that my husband won’t have to do again.
Though I have never booked a flight like this, I felt like I got scammed a bit.
Note to self– READ THE SMALL PRINT AND ASK QUESTIONS FIRST!!!

Really enjoyed this! I bought it as a gift for my boyfriend who is wanting to take pilot lessons. We were going to use the deal on groupon, but he gave me the same price without going through groupon. He said groupon complicates their reservations.
When I called to schedule I asked if he deals with passengers that are terrified of heights. He was very friendly and assured me how safe this ride would be.
We parked in front of restaurant 57 and walked around back to the patio and saw the planes. (side note on the restaurant– we didn’t eat there but it’s really strange. like a museum. instead of music playing it was a president giving a speech over the speakers. I’m sure some famous speech, but I’m not a history major. I probably wouldn’t eat there… ANYWAY). He just had a folding table and a clipboard (and his planes). So we signed some release forms, put on our not-​so-​adorable hats that would protect nothing but our hair from the wind, and goggles. We were able to take some fun pictures in front of the plane that I’ll definitely be printing!
The plane we rode in holds up to 4 passengers. My boyfriend and I sat up front. It wasn’t nearly as terrifying as I thought it would be. I was able to take a ton of pictures without dropping my phone over the edge. We were about 5,000 ft in the air. The little turbulence we experienced wasn’t so bad. It made my stomach drop for a second, but I’ve felt worse on a Delta flight.
It was really loud so don’t expect to be able to have a conversation while you’re up there. We were in the air for exactly 20 minutes. We flew from PDK to about Turner Field. It was awesome to see the city from that point of view.
I only wish it could have been more like a tour. If we were to have headsets and the pilot could tell us exactly what we were flying over, rather than me having to guess which direction was which, that would’ve been great!
In a nutshell: It was a fun experience, we had an experienced pilot, and saw awesome views of the city.

My son loves airplanes! So, a flight over Atlanta in a vintage biplane was the perfect surprise for his fifth birthday. He and I both loved the experience and we’re looking forward to another flight very soon.

UPDATE: to his credit the owner called me and said he agreed with my Unilocal review and that using Groupon has complicated his reservations.

My boyfriend originally bought a Living Social for when his dad visited next, but as the expiration grew near and his dad hadn’t come to visit, he decided to surprise me. He cleared a date with me for a brunch at an undisclosed location, then reserved the flight.
When we got to the restaurant, the bar staff tried to reassure us, but the pilot never showed. His surprise was blown and he had to confess that he’d had this great surprise planned for me, that I was supposed to be in the plane at that moment, but that it hadn’t worked out. We made the best of it and ate too much at brunch, but I could feel how disappointed he was. During brunch, the pilot finally called him back – he’d had him scheduled for another week, one when my boyfriend wouldn’t be in town, so never would’ve scheduled for. The pilot said he’d come down that afternoon and we’d go up together. Twenty minutes later, he called back and said he couldn’t come down that afternoon because his boss wouldn’t let him go up with just two people in the plane. Okay, fair enough – but maybe you should’ve checked before scheduling us again?
Cut to the next Sunday, when we we arrive for the reschedule we’d finally agreed on. The pilot is about 20 minutes late and there are easily 8 people who are all standing around waiting for their plane ride. (It’s a 20 minute ride, so I’m guessing it was the 12pm and 12:30pm groups.)
To the pilot’s credit, he immediately remembered that he’d promised to bring us both up at no extra cost to make up for his blunders. He was super polite and told us about the plane before boarding us and another couple. We sat in the front, wearing our super cool goggles and ear mufflers.
I have never been so scared in my life. I was seriously convinced I was going to die. And we didn’t get any of the tricks other people mentioned… I have always wanted to skydive and typically really like adrenaline rushes, but for some reason, being able to feel every little bump of air in an open cockpit biplane over Atlanta? Not really my thing.
We did get a really unique and beautiful view of the city on a nearly perfect fall day. I didn’t throw up. And I got to do it all with my boyfriend next to me, rather than on my own. So in the end, it all probably worked out just the way it was supposed to.

Purchased tickets as part of a groupon deal. The flight is an awesome experience, especially if you’re a first-​timer. Be sure to ask for tricks (if you can stomach it). Felt a little pricey, but still a fun time.

I had had an AWFUL experience with Biplanes Atlanta. I purchased a ride through TravelZoo then could never get anyone on the phone to schedule an appointment. When I finally did, I had to reschedule and was told I couldn’t. Better yet, I was told I «should know better than to reschedule a flight.» No fine print, no explanation when I booked, simply I should know better than to reschedule a flight. Now, I get to eat $ 85 or spend another $ 90 to reschedule.

My grandson, who is five, and I went for the 40 minute ride over Atlanta and Stone Mountain. We met our pilot, Otie Daniels, at the 57^th Fighter Group Restaurant, walked out on the patio and the plane was parked only a few yards away. Talk about convenience. Mr. Daniels went out of his way to alleviate any fears my grandson might have, and spent time to talk to him and set him at ease. The flight was great. The biplane experience beats any other kind of flying. It is an unforgettable connection to a bygone era. After the flight, we went into the restaurant and had a great meal. I highly recommend this adventure and this company. When my other grandson is old enough we will do this again.

I had been eyeing this place for a while as a gift to my father. And what do you know, it popped up on Groupon one day. After some deliberation, I decided that he needed a partner in this adventure, my mother — much to her dismay. Anyway, we were directed to go to the 57^th Fighter Group Restaurant and look for the pilot off the patio.
Even thought the pilot was running a little behind, he was very patient to allow us to take some photos before takeoff. He stated the flight would last 15 minutes. My mother requested the less thrilling ride, so no loop-​de-​loos for them. Both my parents said they had a great time. Unfortunately, the Falcons were playing a game, therefore they weren’t allowed to fly over the other side of the stadium. Overall, it looked like a lot of fun!

My wife bought me a gift certificate here a few years back. What a unique and different experience. I decided to take my flight in the fall, when the haze and smog is a little less. You schedule the time over the phone and meet your pilot at PDK near the Downwind Restaurant. I took my place in the front seat of the airplane and had a brief introduction on the plane, then we were off. Our flight took us southwest from the airport, climbing over buckhead. We then followed Peachtree Street south towards downtown. Over Piedmont park we did a few loops to check out a festival taking place down there. Next we crossed the connector, flying over GA Tech to the Georgia Dome. Just awesome views. You can’t go much farther south without getting into the Hartsfield airspace, so we turned to the northeast, over Turner Field and heading towards Stone Mountain. Once we were clear of downtown, the pilot let me have a go with the rudder and stick. I didn’t do anything crazy (kinda wish I had), but was amazed at how responsive the plane was. Just before we got to the mountain, the pilot did a few tricks, pulling about a four-​G acrobatic turn. Wow! We did a few laps around Stone Mountain, then headed back to PDK. It was a great experience, one I won’t soon forget. After landing, you will turn heads as you taxi past the playground and observation deck. Feel free to wave!

Another cool alternative… a couples trip. The front seat is just wide enough for two (and you’d be plenty close). I don’t know if they would do this, but a sunset trip in a biplane would be very romantic!
