The Chadds Ford Historical Society (CFHS) is a private, non-profit, community-based, volunteer organization that has restored and maintains three pre-Revolutionary buildings which are open to the public as historic house museums. Tours and education programs for youth and adults are conducted year-round by appointment.

The CFHS operates and maintains a Visitors Center where guests are able to explore their exhibits, conduct research in the research center, and purchase locally made items in their gift shop.

The Society also sponsors several community events throughout the year such as Chadds Ford Days, the Great Pumpkin Carve and Candlelight Christmas Tour.

History

Established in 1968.

In 1967, the John Chads House, a crumbling 18th century house of local significance, came up for sale. A group of thirty neighbors assembled in town to discuss ways to raise funds to purchase the historic building. As the first order of business, it was decided that a formal organization was needed to negotiate the purchase; the Chadds Ford Historical Society was incorporated on the 18th of July, 1968. Meanwhile, a frenzy of fundraising was undertaken to purchase the house and start restoration.

Soon after the decision was made to purchase the John Chads House, Society members learned that another historic building, the Barns-Brinton House, was scheduled to be torn down. Several generous donors and proceeds from Chadds Ford Days 1969 helped fund its purchase.

The Society now manages three historic homes, a visitor center and holds several acclaimed community events throughout the year.
