Paulseth & Associates Physical Therapy

I recently had arthroplasty and a graft jacket on my foot. Was sent by my surgeon to paulseth as he only wanted a 5 star physical therapist working on me. Happy to say that Marie is wonderful, thorough, and recognized the injury perfectly in order to help me. Thank you!

After quite a few months of intense pain and cortizone shots, an MRI diagnosed me with an impingement of my right shoulder and a rotator cuff tear in the left. After the diagnosis, my Orthopedic gave me a prescription for PT.
My boss suggested Paulseth, where I was put under the care of Alex. I am so impressed with his concern, knowledge and ability to manage and oversee not only my shoulder injuries, but many of my health concerns. And I always kid Alex that he never lets me ‘slack off’ … I do my best to do my exercises daily at home because if not, I’ll have to ‘fess up’ to Alex. I am extremely pleased with the positive difference in my abilities today vs. October when I first started at Paulseth.
In addition, the team that works with me through my exercises (Lorraina, Chris and Annie) is also top-​notch. So pleasant to work with and always keeping a close eye to make sure I am doing things correctly.
I am very pleased with Paulseth — if you work in the Century City area, they are within walking distance, in the same building as the Autoclub on Century Park East. I highly recommend.

Go see Scott! Had shoulder impingement. I did not have full range of motion when lifting my arm overhead. With manual manipulation and exercises he had fixed my issue within weeks. Also I had ankle tendinitis two weeks before the LA Marathon and he worked through the tendon and used ultrasound and ice to fix it. I made my marathon goal thanks to the Paulseth team! Great office staff too!

Switched over from Forrster in Santa Monica and boy am I glad I did. Marie (new PT) did an excellent job with me early on. She recognized other aspects to my body development that impacted my current injury. Her balance between recognizing my current injury and how other parts of my body can impact my future long-​term health was refreshing and truly showed a genuine sense of care for their patients. They aren’t just in it for the $$.

Scott is the man. I ended up in his healing hands six month after getting a metal plate and ten screws in my ankle.
I initially turned for help to a clinic in Santa Monica and was turned off after feeling neglected and lost in their patient mill.
When I got to Scott I was very clear on my needs and he turned my world around after just two visits. His hands are magic and exercise routines are easy to keep up.
Breaking my ankle has been the worst experience ever, but because of Scott I can finally begin to forget that it happened.
I can’t comment on billing because I’ve met my out of pocket maximum and my insurance is covering 100% but I can tell you that Terry is the woman to know around here and I can only sing her praises.

Despite the gym buyout which other posts mention has nothing to do with the PT group. The billing folks are awesome, the aids and PTAs are knowledgeable and Scott one of the PTs at Paulseth is a knowledgeable, kind, no joke PT who has brought me and my crushed calcaneus with 14 pins, broken/​dislocated subtalar joint, and me to a standing position. Gains every single week. I am going to walk because of him!

I’ve been seeing Steve for three months now. Relative to the other physical therapists I’ve had over the last two years, he is by far the most knowledgeable and caring. I’ve seen first hand how other therapists run their office… My last therapist’s office was equivalent to a production line. She saw six patients at once and you never got more than 5 to 10 minuets of her time. Her assistants never watched you do your exercises, they simply got the piece of equipment you were to use and left you on your own. At Paulseth it’s exactly the opposite of that. Steve often spends 25 to 30 minutes of one on one time working my ankle over in every which way. He explains what he’s doing and why it’s important. Depending on my progression from week to week, he adds and subtracts exercises from my home routine. When I’m doing my exercises at the gym his assistants stand by me at all times making sure I’m using proper form, and even counting my repetitions… which I love. Unlike the other reviewers I haven’t had to deal with their billing procedures yet. Once I do I’ll update if necessary. All I can speak of is the therapy, and so far I’m very happy.
On a side note, this office is ran out of a gym that looks like it was designed by Ben Stiller’s character from Dodgeball. I think it’s great that you get free access to the gym as long as you’re a patient at Paulseth, although the gym itself does incur some eye rolling.

I’ve been going to Paulseth PT for a couple of years to treat my various hockey injuries that pop up. I had a bad shoulder for years. I’d gone to other PTs and one doctor had recommended surgery if PT didn’t work. Steve Paulseth put me on a stretching program that made the pain disappear.
I’m now doing rehab with Paulseth after having ACL Surgery. I like the fact that they communicate what I should expect and how my progress compare to what is typical for people who had this surgery.
When I don’t have an acute injury, I go in periodically to get a tune up for my back and hips so that I don’t develop problems. Since I play hockey 2 – 3 times a week, and I’m not a kid any more, these tune ups are really helpful.
I don’t understand the negative reviews. I haven’t had a problem with the staff. They’re nice and helpful. The gym is basic but has everything you need. It isn’t overly crowded. The parking is great and the facility is close to my office which is really important.
Bottom line — they get 5 stars because they made the pain go away and the staff is nice, efficient and fun to chat with while you’re getting your treatment.

I cannot disagree strongly enough with the negative reviews of Paulseth & Associates. My experience there with all of the staff and therapists has been stellar and professional.
I met Steve while I was working in the orthopedic department in a major Los Angeles hospital. He was recommended to me by a surgeon, after my foot surgery and after a lesser physical therapist failed to get me back on my feet. I give Steve all the credit for my recovery.
I subsequently injured my hand and tore my rotator cuff, and each time the team has helped me back to health.
While the facility is not a fancy Beverly Hills clinic, the front office staff is friendly and helpful — and they billed my insurance company directly without any problems. And believe me, that is a rare find in today’s healthcare environment.
For serious athletes, serious injuries and for people who take physical therapy seriously, this would be the place to go.

Unfortunately, Justin F. has a point :(This used to be a pretty good PT clinic. I first went there two years ago after I was getting nowhere with Cahill PT after about 1 ½ years. My doctor had always heard of good things about Paulseth PT so he sent me here.
I suffer from tension headaches, and they assigned me to a newly hired PT who was awesome! He had a true passion for PT and his treatment was very effective. He told me that Steve Paulseth was a well respected business owner in the community and that he felt fortunate to get his start there. I felt I was in good hands and after a few weeks completed my treatment for the moment, free of headaches.
The PT assistants were sweet caring kids who were actually experienced at guiding me during the exercises, and hooking me up for stim and ice. My PT would work on me for 30 minutes each visit and at the time it was sufficient. I returned three times more appx. six months apart for more treatment as I had not been vigilant with my exercises/​stretches at home that were supposed to help me maintain a headache free zone. Again I had a good experiences on two of my returns.
I should explain that the office is split up on the weight training floor of a gym. So you might have your medical massage on one end and have to walk to the other end to do your exercises and stim/​ice betweeen the all the muscle heads in there. There was a defined walkway, so it wasn’t too horrible. The only thing I didn’t care for was the techno music they had playing all the time. Not very relaxing when you are in pain. But the comraderie of the clinic made up for it.
In early-​mid 2011, I started hearing rumblings that Steve Paulseth was getting particularly penny-​pinching and that Meridian’s Bodies in Motion, the gym in which the PT offices were located, was in financial trouble and would likely get bought out. My beloved young PT had plans to move on with his career as he felt he had ‘paid his dues’ there. The PT assistants were starting to leave, not because they were going on to graduate school, but because of the work environment and treatment.
Fast forward to Oct 2011. Again, I needed relief from my tension headaches, so I sought the older PT that my beloved PT was trained by. During my three months of treatment, David Barton Gyms bought out Meridian’s with plans to change the atmosphere to more of a nightclub theme in line with their national trend (walls are black: /​). The remodel seemed to be handled terribly and there was now a new sound system installed that played hard core techno with bass that reverberated. It was awful. Also, apparently the new gym did not even want the PT clinic there. Why Steve insisted on keeping his clinic there was unclear. This was a recipe for disaster.
By the first of 2012 almost all of the PT assistants had left, as well as the other decent PT’s. The only PT’s left were Steve, my older PT, and one or two of the new ones out of school. Tensions were high, and I was anxious to finish up my sessions. My PT, who had always been a cheerleader for Steve, was clearly stressed and it was coming out in her body work on me. Basically her treatment was not effective anymore, so I wrapped things up and said goodbye. I had found a massage therapist and I was prepared to pay out of pocket at that point.
While I can’t speak to Steve Paulseth’s abilities as a PT, I can say that I don’t care for the business he has created. There are sooooo many PT clinics in LA definitely PASS on this one!
