Hide-A-Way Camp Sites

I gave this campsite two stars because there were more negatives than positives. The good things were that it has free wifi and it’s very well taken care of.
The bad things were that there is no sewer hook up. There is someone who comes once a week to pump it out but it’s not enough.
But my biggest problem was the service. Most of the people who work here and owners were nice enough, except for one lady. We originally told them we were only going to stay for one week. We then considered staying longer but a couple days after our week was up this lady came to our camper and told us we should have been out of here and was very rude. So we paid her for the extra two days we stayed there and took our business elsewhere.
The day we left we had to wait until we got done with work and when we went to pay she charged us for an extra day (which I understand it was past check-​out time) and she said it was because we should have been out of there by 1pm in her rude tone again. That’s unprofessional and it completely turned us away from this campsite.

Hide-​A-​Way Campsites boasts a large open space in the middle of a rural setting that attracts lots of pull-​behinds and RVs. Two other families and I went tent camping here this weekend and we were the only tents on the property. While surrounded by woods and trees, the campsite itself has very few trees. Tenting in an open field means no place to tie a laundry line for wet towels or place to hang a garbage bag — drawbacks, but not deal breakers.
The first great thing about this place are that the people are nice and helpful — when you buy a box of firewood a gentleman drives it to your campsite on his Mustang golf cart and drops it by the fire ring. The next great thing is that they have real bathrooms on site — showers, sinks, flushing toilets. It stays pretty clean, too, and not once did I visit the facilities to find them full (I suspect the RV crowd uses their own). The last great thing about Hide-​A-​Way is that they have activities — just check their website to see a schedule. This particular weekend featured kid’s crafts at 1pm, a wagon ride at 4pm, and Bingo at 7pm. The Bingo is free to play and prizes for the adults are free bags of ice and the kids win a buck or two in store credit.
Speaking of the store… it is well stocked with anything you might have forgotten when packing for the weekend — from aspirin and tampons to cheese and campfire forks. I have a feeling they make a killing selling candy to the kids judging by the gaggle of little ones raiding the shelves when I dropped in for more ice.
Hide-​A-​Way is a family-​friendly environment and there are lots of kids. Quiet hours start at 10pm and it’s no joke. At 10:15 the only sound outside was the crackle of our campfire! During the day kids ride their bikes on the gravel road, the little ones play on the playground (one of those plastic house thingys for the under 5 set), people take a dip in the swimming pool (small, but adequate — no diving though), play horseshoes, etc.
Secret Caverns is literally just down the road (maybe ¼ mile?) so be sure to visit there. It is kitschy and cute and feels WAY more like exploring than the more famous (and expensive) Howe Caverns nearby.
