AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

First off, let me say that this was a horrible mistake that I made in choosing AAMCO to rebuild my transmission for my 99′ Maxima. First off, Bob, who seemed to look like an honest man, was in fact not. Nice guy, but dishonest when it comes to business. Bob couldn’t even give me a price estimate as to how much it would roughly cost to rebuild the transmission. I even asked him what the cost would be for a worst case scenario, and he still could not give me a quote! He began explaining to me that he knew what could likely be wrong with the car before he even looked at it, but can’t give me a price!!! Unbelievable! So he gave us the deal that he would take out and conduct a multi-​point inspection of the transmission for $ 600 to be «safe.» And then after that, decide if we want to further go through with the rebuild. After the inspection, he was going to charge $ 2,800 for a rebuild!!! Freaking insane! That’s more than the value of the entire car itself! AND ITS ONLY FOR A MANUAL TRANNY. Obviously, since the transmission is already taken apart, we decided to go thru with the job just to get it over with. Managed to knock bob down to $ 2,400, which is still expensive. Don’t make the mistake my father and I made by letting a rude and dishonest mechanic reach into your wallets. If you see an AAMCO shop on the road, just keep driving past it. Don’t even bother looking!
