The Portola at Southglenn

We have lived here with 3 of our younger children. Absolutely love this apartment complex. Great space and unbeatable location. Moved here from out of State and think it was THE perfect spot to land. And I can’t say enough nice things about the agents and staff. Perfectly responsive and caring. They’ve become part of our family.

Pet stains on carpets when you move in…

if you’re looking for a luxury apt… this isn’t it…

Its been less then a month since i moved in to Portela. The staff is nice and friendly. Quiet place to live. i never faced any issues with the lift. The building is secured and i never saw any one getting inside the building without keys. The only bad thing i saw is the bedrooms are just too small. dont know how they made this building but the bedrooms are seriously small.
I do have one complain though is that what ever you do. dont use centurylink as they suck big time. I bought 20MB speed and i get 5MB on wifi. I called the service center and they said they cant help me with the wifi and if i get 15MB with cable then this is the best they can offer.

If you are looking for a cool place to live … You just found it. I love living here. The year round pool is amazing. It’s so convenient to so many great restaurants. Love that I can walk home after a couple of beers;). The management team is very friendly and helpful. I hear they are adding a rooftop party area ;) I love knowing that I have a gym right down the hall. Lots of awesome amenities;). Love love love

a disappointing experience for me. The places are very expensive but I hoped worth added expense because it was a secure building … except that it never was. I found people sleeping in the lobby on more than one occasion and the garage door was broken most 12 months that I lived there, hardly secure if the door is locked in the up position. The staff always blamed it on some resident that hit the door but it was likely substandard equipment to start with. I have to agree with another review, the staff does not advocate for the resident, service was not good, the office frequently closed, they were very friendly — as long as you didn’t have a complaint! My dryer was broken for months — they went through the motions but never called appliance repair, just kept sending the maintenance guy who didn’t know what was wrong with it. I lived without a door on my bedroom for weeks also. The elevator was frequently malfunctioning, especially in the evening and the hallway on the side to the elevator frequently smelled of pet urine. The hallways too often smelled of garbage from the trash chute. I wanted to love it but never did, I did enjoy the location but cannot recommend it … save yourself the drama and go somewhere else.

Had a good experience living here, and in many respects I’m sorry to be leaving. The location is terrific — 5 stars! With the plethora of restaurants, retail shops, the movie theater, Whole Foods grocery, and the quaint little park that provides an ice-​skating rink in the winter, I will miss being able to walk to all of these amenities and the view from my balcony in being able to watch the skaters or just overlook the park in general.
The apartment staff is incredibly friendly and provides wonderful customer service (again 5 stairs). Whether picking up a package, asking a question, or requesting assistance with the apartment, responses were timely and always helpful. I will truly miss their hospitality.
The items that keep The Portola from getting 5 stars?
– Price. We are in a one bedroom plus den, which can easily be used as a second bedroom. But for the size and amenities, we can relocate for less, particularly given the increase in rents with every renewal. Also, we were given a discount on our first lease for having a business in the Streets at Southglenn. That discount was eliminated without notice, which gave us quite a big surprise (and increase in rent) on our first renewal.
– Utility costs are shared based on number of residents in the unit. Our utilities would absolutely be less if they were independently metered since we didn’t live here full time but were charged for two full-​time residents.
– Since all apartments are within interior hallways (definitely a plus during the winter), you’ll also hear kids running down the hall from time to time, and experience the unpleasant smell from pets who didn’t make it outside in time. (The complex has introduced a pet DNA program to control/​improve that.)
– There are ongoing, hit-​or-​miss issues with the garage door. The last several months it has not been operational at all (and thus perpetually open, which to me is a security risk), although reportedly it will be fixed in a couple of days (with an added arm in the hopes to prevent people from running in to the door — I’m skeptical as my guess is they will run in to the arm instead :)
Overall, I would definitely recommend The Portola as a very good place to live, and I would consider living here again depending on price. In fact, if the units were converted into condos, I would definitely considering buying for the right unit (i.e., one of the corner units with the oversized balconies). Thank you Portola for the last couple of years!

Do not rent here.
Living at the Portola was one of the worst experiences of my life. Here’s why:
— Leasing/​management: office is a joke. They are unresponsive and do not advocate for their residents. They will keep your security deposit no matter what. There is no one available after 6pm. Many experiences of my garage key fab suddenly not working, and there is no one to call; no one to help. Imagine being locked out of your house with a dog and an infant in the middle of winter…
— Building security: does not exist. My car was broken into 3 times in the matter of 9 months in the «secured garage». Many other residents had their storage units broken into as well. When a resident started a petition for increased security and safety, it was promptly shut down by the lovely property management team.
— The garage: The garage door is constantly broken. I have been literally trapped in the garage. No one was able to get OUT or IN for hours. My husband fixed the garage door when he got home from work because ‘maintenance’ still hadnt shown up.
— Fire alarms. Constant problems with fire alarms. They are ear piercing. We’ve had to evacuate the building multiple occasions in the middle of the night/​early morning. We were never informed what the problems were. When I asked a firefighter the last time this happened (at 4am again with my infant and dog huddled in my car) they said that there are constant problems here with water line pipes breaking.
— Construction. 7 days a week. 24 hours a day. It never stops. 6am on sunday. I am not exaggerating. I called the head of development and left a message for him (at 6am on a Sunday) to try to make it stop. It didnt.
— Plowing. I dont particularly have a problem with plowing. In fact, I appreciate it. Except when a mini army of snow plows and shovelers show up at 8pm when there is snow in the forecast and proceed to plow and shovel cement ALL NIGHT LONG right below your window.
— Pool is always ‘shut down for maintenance’.
— Dog friendly? No. There is not one dog friendly outside area. (this is my bad, I should’ve figured this out before we moved in.
— Lease: It doesnt matter that you signed a lease for x amount of months. If you dont give 60 DAYS written notice to move out (2 months BEFORE your lease is up) they will charge you an extra 2 months of rent. = just over $ 4,200.
I have never in my life written a review. But — I felt compelled and obliged to let people know what they could be getting into.
This place is HORRIBLE. my worst nightmare.

I moved into the complex in January and I am in love with this place. The apartments, amenities and service of the staff are awesome. If I have any problems the staff is right there to help with smiles and assistance. There is a great mix of people from all ages and it is a wonderfully dog and child friendly place. You can’t beat the location as everything is right here. The only thing missing from the mall is a daycare and old fashioned hardware and soda shop. The views from many of the apartments are amazing of downtown, DTC, he beautiful Rocky Mountains or the Mall itself. I’m just bummed there isn’t more apartments of the 2 + den or 3 bedrooms available AND that they aren’t for sale as I would definitely buy one. Back to amenities there is an awesome courtyard with pool and spa, club room with bar, flat screen TV, pool table, business center, gym and everything is beautifully decorated. There is more but come see for yourself and hopefully you will feel as welcomed by the family spirit at the Portola as I have.
