We’ve been coming to this location on and off for the last three to four years. It wasn’t until the last visit that I realized how over-priced they are. We ordered a large pizza and a pitcher of beer. The total was well over $ 50. I’ve been to similar pizzerias where there are servers that actually service tables, and have left(with tip) for less. Now, this isn’t a negative review on their food quality,(this location) but on their exorbitant pricing. They’ve somehow justified to themselves that their dining experience is worth the hike in pricing. Well, it isn’t. In a nutshell; their food is good. Their pricing structure is gouging. I, personally, will opt for other pizza alternatives in the future.

Horrible customer service. Called in for a takeout order. Showed up and they screwed up my order. Instead of apologizing, they proceeded to make me look like a fool. I’m pretty sure I know what I ordered as I was the one that called in to place it. It’s not my fault that you wrote down differently. Unbelievable!

We stopped in for lunch for the first time in years today. The kid’s thin crust came out after 20 mins and our Detroit came out 5 mins later. I was impressed by the short wait for our deep dish! The pizza was great, but I like Ruby’s and Cappy’s better. I think Ruby’s and Cappy’s sauce is better and that they put more of it on. I do wish they had real plates, not the Styrofoam y ones.

This place was delicious, the wait wasn’t too long and the portions were nice! Honestly we were going to go to a different pizza place but the wait was way too long so we chose Tomaso’s. So glad we did! My friend & I got a medium Hawaiian Ham & Pineapple on the Detroit Deep Dish. My boyfriend and his friend got basically all the meats on also a Detroit Deep Dish. Both pizzas were mediums. My friend and I have two and a half slices left which we are excited to reheat tomorrow. My boyfriend and his friend finished their whole pizza but they both felt like they got plenty to eat. My boyfriend is a big strong(handsome) man. For him to feel full off just a half of a medium is great! The staff was friendly, the pizzas didn’t take long and that’s surprising with the line of people waiting! The only reason I’m not giving them five stars is because it’s a little pricy, but it was so worth it! I will go there again for sure the next time I’m in town!

This is the best pizza in Cedar Rapids. While all the crust styles are good, the Detroit style is amazing. The crispy cheese on the ends by the crust are the tastiest part. While the prices are a little more than your«average» pizza joint, this pizza is definitely NOT average, and totally worth the difference. Great pizza!!!

Great pizza, have been coming here for years. However on a recent visit you need to be aware that some of the help are scamming customers. I ordered by phone and when I came to pick up my piazza I paid with a credit card. Nothing unusual until my credit card bill came I noticed some one had added an $ 8 tip. I tip at my discretion and only on good service. A phone in order and counter pick up and you help yourself to an $ 8 tip? Don’t think so. Be very careful with this place.

Pizza was ok. For some reason they didn’t bother to cut it which makes it really hard to eat in my hotel room.

Their thin crust pizza was was quite good, and I guess their Detroit style pizza is meant to be their best so if that’s the case I look forward to trying it just based just how good my thing crust was. I also look for a great thin crust pizza and this is a good choice.

I was looking for a good pizza place and found Tomaso. I was glad I had a $ 3 coupon it is a bit pricey but I think the pizza is very Good. We ordered a small Chicago crust. mombo combo, and wings. Well they should just stick to pizza. My wings were terrible and some were burnt. I will maybe try again but stick to pizza. I like the music they played and I agree for a nice place they should at least have better plates.

To the person who comapred them to Papa Johns, I’m calling B.S. Why? You stated you haven’t been here in 25 years. They were not open 25 years ago! I worked there in 1998 on C.P.R., and Tom opened just a few years before that in his first location, across from what was the 32nd St Hy Vee, the old one that’s torn down that had Kiecks below it. Now that we have that established… The crusts used at Tomasos are correct for each city. So many places serve fake Chicago pizza thinking it’s just thick bread. Wrong. Tomasos uses correct cornmeal crust. The meat is quality and supplied locally. The toppings are fresh and not cheapo, and the sauce is quality as well. This is why you pay $ 25 for a pizza. If you want crap, go pay $ 11 at some big name garbage franchise. It amazes me how ignorant some people are when it comes to food and value. You can go to Burger King and get your $ 4 burger if you’re in the mood, or you can sit down at a reputable restaurant and pay $ 9 for something handmade and special. Tomasos is the same. You are paying for a quality product.

I stopped in this evening and am updating the review to four stars. I’m a fan and would recommend this place! The pizza consumed tonight had a thin crust with pepperoni, sausage, jalapenos. I liked the crust — it was thin without being like a cracker. The pizza itself was beautiful — the toppings perfectly distributed. It was visually stunning. One thing that struck me was the generous amount of cheese. There is one word I can think of to describe this pizza — classy. You might pay a couple dollars more but you will be pleased!

Small shop. Excellent pizza. Choice of thick(Chicago), thin(NY), or medium(Detroit) crust. I had Detroit with meat and it was very good. Crunchy crust with great flavor, and perfect amount of cheese and sauce. Meats were not too spicy or fatty. Really enjoyed it and recommend it if you want pizza in Cedar Rapids.

Did some idiot below really compare this to papa johns prices(cough cough Steve). Tomasos has great pizza. Everything tastes really fresh and I consistently have great pizza here. Yes it’s pricy. It’s not a late night drunk college kid pit stop like that Dominos is that you regret in the morning. If you want some of the best thin crust pizza in CR, check these guys out.

Pizza was pretty good. We had Detroit style and Thin Crust for the kids. The crust on the Detroit reminded me of Pizza Hut. I wouldn’t claim this to be the best pizza place in CR, but still not too shabby. A medium and a small cost us $ 50.

Tomaso’s has what can easily be described as one of the best pizza in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. They have two good approaches to unique styles of crust, Chicago and Detroit, to complement their thin crust option. They use high quality ingredients. They serve a few good beers on tap and the environment is friendly and open(the kitchen is visible from the seating area). As someone who has lived in the Chicagoland area and Ann Arbor and experienced some of the best pizza in the Midwest, and who has searched for good pizza in the CR/IC region, Tomaso’s is representative of the best. It’s a restaurant definitely worth visiting.

$ 60 for two large(?) pizzas. Wow! What a rip off! If you want to throw your money away this would be the easiest place to do it. If we went to Papa John’s, we could’ve got 4REAL large pizzas that were way better for $ 60. I hadn’t purchased from Tomaso’s in 25+ years, now I remember why. They suck! What a racket, how do they stay in business?

Simply put, the Detroit Deep was awesome. About ½ the thickness of your typical Chicago deep dish, but with caramelized crust. Pretty original crust(IMHO), somewhat similar to Jet’s square pieces, but these are a little more airier and cut in typical pie shape. I’ll certainly have it it again soon. Would have given it 5 stars, but the service was horrible :(One of the girls was completely rude and acted like us being their was the worst thing in the world.

Tomaso’s is definitely the best pizza in town. Their Mongo Combo special is to die for — and I’m usually just a die-hard Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza eater. I would absolutely recommend the pizza here.

Good pizza, not so great service. The Detroit Deep was a delicious crust. We got half Hawaiian(chef was generous with the pineapple) and half pepperoni and green olives. The green olives were very salty and larger than the ones you get in a can. Good if you like value for your olives, bad if you have high blood pressure. Having never been there before we were looking for a little guidance when we walked in the door – which could have been obvious because of the bewildered looks on our faces. We didn’t get a lot of help from the cashier/staff. She took our order and since all we saw was bottled beverages behind her I assumed that’s all that was available. After ordering the pizza, picking up plates, silverware, napkins, and two bottles of iced tea, we sat down at a booth. Lo and behold a soda machine was right behind us. We decided to get something from the fountain anyway, so I walked back up to the cashier and ordered two fountain drinks. As I paid the $ 4.50 for two glasses the female cashier told me it was unlimited refills. Then she said that«not a lot of people know we have fountain pop.» Gee… I wonder why that is? I was hoping for a little better experience especially because of all the high ratings on Unilocal

I had high expectations because they advertise the fact that they’ve won the award for best pizza in Cedar Rapids 5 times. I’m shocked because I thought the pizza tasted like it was from the freezer section. The kids got a thin crust pepperoni that was bad. Our taco pizza was ok. We got 10 wings for $ 8 and they were disgusting. The whole bill for 2 medium thin pizzas, wings and 4 drinks was $ 50! What a colossal ripoff! Go anywhere else.
