The Rut Bar & Grill

I was in town with three family members for a family event and after a long drive from Chicago, we wanted to grab a drink. We have driven past The Rut several times in the past, joking that one day we’d go. Well, that day arrived and although we were a bit hesitant we ventured in. The Rut is a very typical roadside bar on the outside and on the inside, you’ll see lots of photos of deer or dead deer. (Their t-​shirt slogan is «Show us your rack!). Let’s just say this is not our typical hang out.
I am so pleased to report that we had one of the best times ever! Everyone at The Rut treated us like locals, playing pool with us, offering us birthday cake, and cheering us on during a VERY, VERY lame attempt at karaōke. (Thank goodness what happens in Iowa stays in Iowa!)
We didn’t have any food, but they had a good selection of draft beer, including 312 and Fat Tire. If I’m ever in Cedar Rapids again, I would gladly go to The Rut! It confirmed my belief that Iowans are some of the friendliest people you can meet.
