History

Established in 2014.

Right at Home, Inc. was founded by Allen Hager. For many years, Allen worked in healthcare as a hospital administrator. While in the hospital environment, he watched many of his patients — especially seniors — leave the facility and return home, but not necessarily return to health. Once home, a lot of his former patients were unable to care for themselves.

Allen knew that with a little help, most of these people could lead healthy, happy lives in their own homes. But he also knew that there were very few companies that offered this kind of help.

In 1995, Allen started Right at Home in Omaha, Nebraska. Five years later, he started branching into other regions of the country by carefully selecting franchisees who shared his passion for caring for those in their community.

Right at Home now has more than 350 locations that serve tens of thousands of clients across the United States.

Meet the Business Owner

Right at Home Cedar Rapids is locally owned and operated by Renee Riffey, a mother of five who has a 25-​year background in IT management. A few years ago, when Renee’s father was diagnosed with brain cancer Renee saw her family’s dynamics shift. Her father became depended on her mother to provide care for him in the last year of his life and Renee saw the toll that put on her mother. Seeing that gave Renee an appreciation for what people go through when caring for loved ones who are at the end of their lives. After several decades in the IT industry, Renee and her husband Craig decided to seek out a business opportunity which would enable them to enrich the lives of people living in our Cedar Rapids community.

Renee has taken the Certified Nursing Assistant classes to better understand the skillsets trained and required to provide personal care services and applies the management lessons from her previous career to ensure Right at Home delivers quality home care to those they serve.
