History

Established in 1986.

We started out as one Viet Nam veteran who performed plumbing in the U.S. Navy Seabees, initially working out of a garage at home. As we grew over the years, we’ve installed plumbing/​heating/​cooling systems in over 12,000 new homes and condominiums. We’ve also built the plumbing systems for hundreds of new restaurants, mall stores, hair salons, nursing homes, Sam’s Club, Walmart, multiplex apartments, and just about any type of commercial entity that needs plumbing. Business Owner

Dave volunteered twice — for two tours of duty in Viet Nam. After surviving many dangerous missions, he returned home to New York City where he was born. He later moved to Iowa and graduated from Cornell College with a degree in psychology. After a stint as a drug abuse counselor, and then a Linn County Probation Officer he returned to plumbing. Dave has been a member of the Cedar Rapids Plumbing Appeals Board, and was on the cover of the plumbing industry’s largest national magazine twice. He put together a world class showroom for plumbing and tile, which draws clients from 60 miles away. In addition to operating Master Plbg., he teaches heating at Kirkwood College. He previously taught plumbing to Rockwell, and the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors Association as well. He’s an avid houseboater, metal worker, woodworker, photographer, and fused glass enthusiast. He’s built a team of energetic, personable, experienced, caring, and knowledgeable people.

Very fast and friendly service! I needed a new valve and water line for a dishwasher installed and the work was completed in under 15 minutes. Not inexpensive; however, it is a task that required a skilled plumber and it was worth it to me.

Upon discovering a very wet basement thanks to a leaking water heater, Master Plumbing came to the rescue. They quickly diagnosed that our anode rod had gone bad, and explained that this rod prevents the water heater from corroding from the inside out thanks to the especially hard water we have around here.
Within an hour, a new water heater had been delivered and a second set of hands had arrived to help lift the water heater out of our egress window. Why through the egress window? Because our ten year old water heater was totally rusted out and the plumber didn’t want to get our carpet or the rest of our house dirty. Seriously, talk about a terrific attention to detail!
Everything from their quick response, to care in explaining the issue to someone who knows absolutely nothing about plumbing, exceeded my expectations. Oh, and they take their payments via a tablet they carry with them, which is just one more wonderful convenience.

Drain backed up in basement they came to clear it and charged a lot. Cleared it on Monday it was backed up again Wednesday and wouldn’t come back out with out charging me the same price, they didn’t fix it the first time. The guy was very nice but if they are going to charge so much they need to come out and re– look when it gets clogged two days later.

We called Master plumbing because our Boiler stopped working, Bob came out right away to help us get it running again. After he got the boiler working we found that there was a leak that put the pilot light out. Without any further issues he got it to stay on until he could come and replace the unit. Bob even came in on a Saturday to complete the install. I would recommend Bob to anyone that needed Boiler work done, he was very easy to work with and he made me feel like I was his only priority. Thank you Bob for getting this together so quickly.

I called Master Plumbing on Monday when I noticed that my AC compressor wasn’t clicking on with the fan. Their HVAC technician, Bob, came out on Tuesday morning and diagnosed/​fixed the problem in 30 minutes. He also answered my questions as I was hovering around him while he tinkered with the unit. Very good experience and the receptionist was also very nice when I was making my appointment. Highly recommended.

I called to ask about replacing a leaking water heater. The lady on the phone was very short and would only say you have to pay a fee for them to come look at it, and if we hired them the fee would be included in price. Sooo they get a blank check??? It’s not nuclear science to replace a 12 year old one with a new one of the same size. She would not even provide a price of a unit the same size. I understand labor can be a variable in this case. Not very customer friendly.
I told her no, and hung up. I called another long time Cedar Rapids plumber who gave me a range for labor also, but a firm quote for the water heater.
I went with the other company and the did a great job and were within $ 40 of their phone estimate.

These guys helped me a lot. The power was out during a tornado-​laden storm, and the water kept rising in the sump pump system. After baling water for two hours (while holding a frightened two year old in one arm!), the power was restored. But I needed a SOLUTION. I called this company, based on internet reviews. The dispatcher was friendly and efficient. She promised that she would attempt to catch a provider who was in this area. He confirmed by phone, and then arrived promptly. He explained the options and we agreed on installation of a new pump and battery back up. He was polite and competent. The price was not inexpensive, but I feel that it was probably fair for the peace of mind! (I RARELY write reviews, but I realize that this method helped me, so I am trying to keep the karma going!)
