Great hotel. Friendly staff and very friendly staff. Got an awesome rate for a double tree. Wish they had a fridge and microwave but i get it seeing they sell booze and food. Location is ideal to CR and even better if event is going on in US Celluar center. Well worth the extra coin to not stay by airport

Very nice hotel with big rooms and an incredibly comfy bed. However I was pretty upset on my second stay at the hotel with the poor service I received. I wanted a microwave in my room for my week long stay. I was told that I would cost $ 15 per day. For that price I could by my own unit. Keep in mind that I was also paying $ 22 a day for parking.
I was then told that I could have use of a microwave in the lobby. Turns out that I would have to hand over my food to have the staff operate the microwave for me. I asked for the managers card, but none were available.
Don’t think that I will be returning.

Let’s start by giving this hotel 5 stars. We’ll deduct one star because your room will either face the train tracks and the trains come through all night and blow their whistle, or the main drag where people apparently enjoy riding their Harleys up and down the street all night. Not necessarily the hotel’s fault, but…
We’ll next deduct one star for no A/​C. In Iowa. In Summer. My kids’ room was a sauna. I asked the hotel to send someone up to check it out. The technician was actually a very friendly man, who explained that, for some reason, the evaporator lines installed were too small and prone to not drain correctly, which meant the unit would just run the fan constantly when they clogged up. AND THAT WAS IT. He just said «Sorry» and left it hot. Thanks.
We’ll deduct one more star for no breakfast. I don’t want to get up on my high frequent traveler horse, but I average 3 nights/​week all year long in hotels, mostly in Hilton properties, and expect something for my loyalty. One of my guarantees as a Diamond member at Doubletree properties is «Continental Breakfast — You will receive complimentary Continental breakfast for you and up to one additional registered hotel guest each day of your stay» however, I was told by the front desk staff that my Diamond status and $ 14.95/person would buy me breakfast. The happy part of this story was that we found The Breakfast House (see my review there) a short distance away (and for much less than $ 15/​head).
I overheard one of the staff saying that the hotel was rumored to be up for sale. Maybe that’s why the staff turned an almost great stay into something extraordinarily mediocre.

I hate to give this place such a low rating because it’s actually a really nice hotel with nice rooms and good food. But, I had the same issue that a number of others have mentioned — the train tracks are literally right next to the hotel and the train horns are deafening. Even worse… they come through in the middle of the night multiple times a night. Forget about sleeping — You will be awoken by a crazily loud horn every few hours and the horn lasts for a good 5 – 10 mins each time.
Before night two, I went to the front desk and asked about whether I could get a room on the other side of the hotel, hoping that it would be better. They were very nice, but they said that it was just my bad luck for getting a room that’s on the side of the hotel that has the train right there. They gave me earplugs, which they said are supposed to be in every room (although they weren’t in mine).
Net-​net, I love this hotel’s rooms and the friendly staff, but the main point of a hotel is for sleep. Since I can’t do that here, I have to give it a low rating.

New hotel. Very courteous staff. Hotel is equipped with a valet. My biggest grievance is: the warmer for the cookie is set too high and no one is monitoring the hold times. If you come late in the day, the chewy cookie is hard as a rock.

Very nice rooms, comfortable beds, great tv (except channels geared to sports lovers), good shower, very good restaurant. Great room service.
Gave it only three stars due to deafening sound of trains. Actually so loud it hurt my ears and woke me throughout the nights. Loud enough to convince me to stay somewhere else next trip.

Amazing property in the heart of downtown. Great amenities, gorgeous room, and I can’t say enough about the professionalism of the staff. I even left my laptop in my car and the valet brought it right up to my room, without me even asking. Carmen helped me with a booking issue and my room is new, clean and extremely welcoming. I’ll be back!

Had a wonderful stay. Great staff, nicely appointed rooms.
Had breakfast on the 16^th floor. Incredible views. Lots of fresh fruit and bread, standard breakfast fair done really well. The waitstaff did an incredible job.
Like others have said. 4:00 AM. Train! The only downside I could find.

The room itself gets a 5-​star rating… these rooms are enormous! They’re essentially the size of my entire apartment from a few years ago. Comfy beds, big TVs, a nice sitting chair, desk space, etc. I like that the sink is outside of the shower/​toilet area, makes getting ready in the morning a breeze.
So why the 3 stars? Here is my big complaint: THE NOISE. I didn’t hear slamming doors, etc., but you can hear the elevator going up & down all night long. You can also hear the train tracks behind the hotel that allow you to wake up to blaring horns. And if you have a room in the front of the building, the traffic outside will make you crazy, too.
Not to mention the concert venue attached to the hotel, where a lovely, soothing band named Five Finger Death Punch may try to lull you to sleep. I mean granted, the band is what it is, it’s not my thing but if you like it, go on with your bad self. However, the fact that I could hear the music in my room, 12 floors above the venue, was a bit annoying. Thankfully I always travel with earplugs.
The valet people were decently nice, albeit a little flustered/​confused at times when trying to get our cars out. There is no refrigerator or microwave, but they do give you 2 bottles of water in the room, so that’s very nice. Coffee maker, hairdryer, etc. are all provided as well, and there is even an alarm clock that you can charge your iPhone (the dock itself is for an iPhone 4, but, in the back there is a USB outlet that you can charge with).
Overall, it’s a very good choice in the area, just make sure to double-​check if there is a show going on at the convention center before booking.

Very nice place except a lot of noisy from outside (subway, train, cars, motor cycle). You can hear everything…

I took a trip with my mom, my 2 year old daughter and 3 of my nephews all under the age of 12 to my cousin’s wedding. The wedding was taking place at The Hotel at Kirkwood which is a very posh and high end hotel with no type of breakfast options. Pricing starting at $ 139 a night. The rest of my family that traveled to come to the wedding had booked rooms there and so did we. When we arrived we learned that they had no pool and since we had never heard of the hotel we didn’t know that it was not very «kid friendly». I immediately Unilocaled other hotels to better accommodate us and found the Double Tree by Hilton and not only did they let us book a room at almost 12am they stayed on hold while we cancelled our reservations at the other hotel! We were offered the bed and breakfast package at $ 109 a night and they had a pool! When we arrived, we were greeted with excellent hospitality and that wonderful, delicious, warm cookie. The building was located in the downtown area so it was a high rise. We stayed on the 12^th floor so we had a glorious view of the city. There was a wonderful restaurant on the 16^th floor and the breakfast buffet they served everyday was no run of mill continental breakfast. They even had made to order omelets as an option as well. The kids had a blast in the pool and the cleanliness of the rooms were impeccable!!! The next time I have a hotel stay I will definitely choose Double Tree by Hilton as my first option!!!

I stayed here twice and had pleasant time both time. The hotel is beautiful and it’s probably the nicest hotel in Cedar Rapids. You also get the yummy warm chocolate chip walnut cookie at check-​in like any other DoubleTree Hotels. I also appreciate the nice contemporary carpeting, just different than usual crappy or gaudy hotel carpets, and the elevators are fast and nice.
The room is also very nice with comfy bed and modern furniture. Hate the mood lighting because it accentuates any imperfections on my skin I never noticed before. I was like my thigh changed overnight! It didn’t look like that yesterday. Wtf. But not sure if that was the hotel’s fault.
They serve Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s coffee and tea in the room, equipped with single serving brewing machine. Good coffee. I love that!

The gym was spacious but I disliked that the machines all face the wall with the door behind us. If you’re working out alone at night, you can’t easily tell if someone is coming. I constantly turn around just in case.
Parking is cheap. In the garage across the street, it is only 0.75 cent/​hour or the hotel can do a flat rate if $ 12/​a night.
The only bad thing, the train or tram goes directly through there. OMG, the horn!!! So damn loud. However, it must have not been through the night as I had great night sleeps on both stays.
I gave it 4 stars as It’s not perfect but I like it and I’ll be a regular.

Nice hotel, clean, cozy rooms with train tracks next door. The city really should install gates so the train doesn’t blow it’s whistle over and over 24 hours a day! Unfortunately it woke my kids many times :-(

Excellent customer service, rooms are clean and modern, highly recommend. No fridge or microwave, so plan on eating out, not a lot of choices downtown, but tons of options nearby.
