Pet Connection

I met the new owner a few months back at a Pet Fair at the Cedar Park Bark Park … he seemed super friendly and apparently he bought out this business [see website
] — but has kept the name and added «Plus» at the end. I have not been back in the store since it went under new ownership (not since I wrote my last review), but I’m totally willing to check it out. As long as the conditions don’t exist as outlined in my previous review — I’m totally open to redoing my rating to give this new owner a chance. No reason he should pay for a previous owners mistakes! I’m giving it 3 stars now b/​c it’s requiring me to enter a star rating to post this comment and 3 seems a neutral number.

I was in desperate need of some schooling fish for our aquarium. Other pet stores in the area were out of the type we needed. The aquarium water at Pet Connection was absolutely filthy. The fish I brought home were very discolored. I will never buy fish from them again. I recommend Petsmart. You may pay a little more for your fish, but their fish are healthy and their tanks pristine.

We’ve used Sharon many times to groom our Brittany, and she is terrific, both as a person and as a groomer. The fact that she loves my dog is a huge plus, as he does not mind going. In face, I think he likes the pampering and sweet talk he gets from her!
Megan took our very timid greyhound immediately to trim his nails, because he is timid and doesn’t tolerate waiting very well. Though he is a huge baby about it when I do it, he stood patiently for her and she was very quick. She, too, has a way with our dog.
Larry and the others are always courteous. We have gotten what we need there at reasonable prices.

The store has a stinky funk in it though.
There is a huge red dancing parrot that bites there! If that is not a good time then nothing is lol…
Larry, is also very quiet but cool. Sam is the Manager, Larry is the Owner.
I wish they would carry Fromm but they have enough good other options like Wellness and Taste of the Wild…
I went here last week and met an amazing couple named Ron and Jennifer who had an even more amazing dog named Griffin!
We had a blast in there!
I was informed that they pay only 8 dollars to have their dogs nails trimmed and that the woman even expresses their sacs for the 8 dollars total! That is crazy cheap! We just don’t live near there but this is good info to share.
Be careful about some of the items you buy there though. I have been told that some of the bird cages or relative items may be used… just be careful… we only know what we are told but if you are getting treats or furrminators there you will be good to go!
I don’t know a thing about the animal abuse claims (that Brooke B wrote) in there and hope to GOD that is false… if I learn of any of that I will be removing the review… just sayin’…

Scaling the Eiffel Tower. Solving the health care crisis. Installing plumbing on the moon. Pffft. That is NOTHING to grooming my 90 lb golden retriever! He is a HIGH Maintenance kid. Let me paint a picture with words… he’s got long thick fur, like velcro, that brings in every leaf and twig in the yard and that also leaves tumbleweeds of hair rolling across my hardwoods. Matts on his ass and under his «armpits». And, he’s a chronic drooler. So the fur under his chin and on down his «ruff» smells like roadkill that has been dipped in vinegar. Boy I love my baby :)
I used to tackle this chore myself… spending hours on my back deck, in the heat, trimming nails and matts and shaving some places and brushing out whole new dogs’ worth of hair, and THEN I got around to bathing him which is a back-​killer. Well, last month I said NO MORE! (shakes fist to sky) And looking at my hunched over body and sweaty angry face, Hubby agreed (smart man!).
I called PC cause they are right across the street from me. We’ve tried Pestsmart before and it was okay, but I wanted to give local biz a try. Sharon the groomer is awesome. I went into the store and talked to her in person and gave her the lowdown on my «hot mess». She really listened to what I wanted and we discussed at length a plan for my boy. The hardest part is strategizing a drop-​off as it took her 5 HOURS to groom my boy. So I ended up dropping him Sat morning but had to go pick him up mid-​UT game. But, OMFG, I did not recognize my own dog! She had called before and recommended that we shave him all over. I was concerned about that at first, but she said he was just so ragged and matted (probly from my previous attempts) that we should give him a clean slate. He is soo freaking cute! And you can tell he just feels so much better. He’s bouncin around the house like a 80 lb puppy (yup I think he lost about 10 lbs). And the best part is the tail. She left a little tuft on the end that gives him a distinctly lion like appearance.
Now I’m guessing some people woulda freaked out about this. But my concern is always for my pup and she and I discussed it and I said do what you want but make him comfortable and clean. And his attitude demonstrates that she did. And the price? Slightly higher than Petsmart but a vast difference in appearance. It’s worth it.
Oh and as for the rest of the store, my grrl went with me to pick Jake up and she did the happy kid dance looking at all the bird stuff. They have tons of birds lining the walls when you walk in (which totally fareaked my dog out, btw). And Larry that works the front, I talked to him on several occasions making appts, cancelling appts, rescheduling appts (it’s hard to plan 5 hours outta your day!) and he was always so sweet to me. They seem like some good olé, down home, «ya’ll come back now ya hear?» people. And I will. be back.

Wow Sam is cool! I had an issue with my filter, and I had resigned myself to buy a new one. Basically the day went something like this … we need new fish, we go to get them at pet connection. While we are there, we figure, that we have had the decorations in that tank for… oh 9 years. it is about time to change, so we pick up some new gravel, a new background and some new plants and stuff.
Get home, start aclimating the fish. and taking appart the tank to clean it up. after we get it put together it is pretty much a mess, this is when I notice that the filter has gone South. It is working but really not. anyway I get going back down there ready to swallow the $ 50 to replace it. Total bummer. Sam asks me to go get teh filter so he can have a look, he thinks it is just the impeller, and goes ahead and changes it and we test it out, like new this bad boy is working now. now, the impeller is $ 20, which sucks, but that is a far cry better than $ 50.
Fish are still going strong, and he has a generous return policy, since he doesn’t sell fish death (not like Petco, see my review of them.)
