History

Established in 2001.

Built in 1897, this historic home was completely renovated to offer the finest experience for Cedar City visitors. Each of the seven guest rooms and suite have been uniquely decorated, but not overdone, to provide an elegant, yet casual atmosphere for the utmost comfort. The innkeepers, Brian and Donna Johnson, purchased the inn May 2015 to elevate the experience and amenities of the inn while preserving the best of this old home. Our Award-​winning gardens and a secluded patio draw those who wish relax under the umbrellas for breakfast, conversation or afternoon refreshments. The addition of a fire pit and garden jacuzzi to in relax after a canyon hike or mountain ski is enjoyable afternoon or evening under our starlit sky. Our guest also enjoy a glass of wine from the IG Winery right here on the property and also can participate in the art and wine lectures and dinners offered throughout the year.

After 14 ½ year of the utmost in hospitality in Cedar City, CR and Susan Wooten sold the Iron Gate to Brian and Donna Johnson passing the batton of innkeeping at The Iron Gate Inn. Brian’s career crosses many levels of finance, executive management, in the Hi-​Tech and software industries. Donna although educated in biology from childhood designed and created anything and everything, and enjoy culinary arts at a young age. Her creative and design skills developed throughout her early education, corporate journey to the best of the industry in corporate America. Now in her own venue Donna creates an atmosphere of fun, celebration and relaxation, providing healthy gourmet breakfast including gluten and lactose free, vegetarian, and vegan meal prepared daily from the fresh, non– GMO, organic or farm fresh when available. Their warmth and dedication as hosts provide a casual experience where you can be treated both like a special guest and a welcomed friend.
