While surfers and boogie boarders skim the waves, lovers stroll the pier, children frolic on the beach, sit and sip local award winning wines enjoying the sunset on your own private balcony, overlooking the sea at On The Beach Bed & Breakfast.

History

Established in 2007.

Captain James Cass, Cayucos’ founding father, left his New England home and settled in Cayucos in 1867 on 320 acres. The Cayucos area was originally inhabited by the Chumash people, who settled the coastal San Luis Obispo area approximately 10,000 to 11,000 BC. He realized the future possibilities of the excellent location as a shipping port. He and his partner built the pier, a store and a warehouse. It was known as Cass’ Landing.

Cayucos is named after the Native American word meaning kayak or canoe; a small fishing boat commonly used for hunting sea otters along the coast.

The pier still exists, and the warehouse has become a community center that is available for public and private parties and functions.

On The Beach Bed & Breakfast is located at the foot of the Cayucos pier. The property, formerly a vacant lot, has become one of the best locations to experience the elemental town of Cayucos and the beautiful Central Coast.

Business Owner

The owners, two locals; one a surfer and the other an architect of award winning sand castles, had long wanted a place on the beach for themselves and their families where they could perfect their chosen avocations of surf and sand.

A place that welcomed sandy feet, beachcombing and fires on the shore, while not giving up the finer things to complement it all; great linens, soft beds, good wine, waves crashing beneath your balcony, breathtaking views, fireplaces, luxury baths and fabulous food. And, they wanted it away from the over crowded and overdone feeling of an all too typical California beach town. A place to celebrate life.

The fates conspired, the tide turned in their direction; On The Beach Bed and Breakfast was born. They could have their beach home and share it with others.

Come and share the small slice of Shangri-​La with the Rengel and Shannon families have built; a dream that became a goal and is now a reality.
