Riverside Columbia

This is by far the most disgusting place I have ever lived in. The buildings are infested with roaches that crawl in through ever possible crack in the wall. I keep my apartment very clean, and spray for bugs regularly, but they still appear on the floor, in my room, in the bathtub, everywhere! There was even a time when one was in my bed with me while I was trying to fall asleep. Eek! The reason the infestation is so bad isn’t just to run down rooms, but also the terrible management of the apartment complex that has allowed things to progress to this level. I do NOT recommend in any event. I am anxiously counting down the days until I move out of this place.

What an extremely frustrating experience I’ve had these past few months in trying to pay rent without being nickel and dime to death! In August-​Sept, I find out that they charge an «$ 45 annual fee» to service the electrical bill. Then Oct, it takes them 10 days to process my check, worrying me that it won’t make it by deadline. Then Nov, when I don’t trust their check processing time, I decide to pay online only to find out that they charge $ 9.50 «convenience fee». Then for Dec, they lose my check (blame it on USPS, but I’m getting it now, it’s really them). I pay the credit card fee again and enroll in automatic draft from the bank (which they charge a fee). I called a week before Jan 1^st to make sure the system was in place and spoke with Kendrick who assured me that he noticed that I was in the system. Then I find out on Jan 3^rd (and now Jan 4^th) that it never happened. You can rarely get someone on the phone (anytime I leave a voice message, I rarely get a return call that same day) and so I’m trying again and again to connect. They will probably blame my bank. Why don’t they do an internal check weeks ago when I applied for automatic draft? Yes, they will figure out a way to make money off of you. Also, the shuttle system is always filled up by 8A so you better wake up early! And if you walk, it takes 15 min because of the horrible intersections leading up to the college campus.

It’s cheap and convenient, But the management sucks. They tried their best to charge the residents for any reason, damage on this damage damage on that balabala. Their managers’ attitudes are impatient and sometimes yell to resident or hang up the resident’s phone call directly. I’ve already returned my key and moved out but they still charge me electricity bill. That’s ridiculous.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. I would give this place no stars if I could. I had awful roommates, one got evicted and I specifically asked to be kept in the loop so I’d know what to expect, and I came home one night and one roommate was gone and another had already moved in! I had not been told anything. The apartments are crappy and way overpriced, and the management staff is anything but helpful. Please do not waste your money here.

Do not move here, very bad management, old apartments, and they charge you for everything without explaining why or warning you of charges

I have had several bad experiences with Riverside. I understand it is somewhat cheaper than some of the other college housing choices however… gross mold growth in bathrooms– they only caulk over old mold. They bill you just about every month for electric overages– even when no one was living there in the summer and thermostat was turned up. My daughter’s closet door fell off the track– she reported it to the office and it was never fixed. My charge card number was stolen so I had to switch payment methods which I did online following their directions, only to get slapped with a $ 50 late fee because the online system does not tell you to set up a new schedule. BUT the icing on the cake is I received a bill today for $ 289 (just my daughters part-​there are 3 other roommates) for charges for cleaning, painting, removing trash, and THE BROKEN CLOSET DOOR! I helped with the move-​out and the place was pretty spotless– even cleaned celing fans, windows, oven etc. One roomate had not moved out when we left but each person has their own lease. OK what happened to the security deposit??? This place is a ripoff– you are better paying a little more $ and dealing with honest people. Also was threatened that the owner was a lawyer. This is just a short list of many problems we had with this cesspool!
