Description

History

Established in 1909.

Oregon Caves was first discovered in 1874 by Elijah Davidson, who was in the mountains hunting bear. The cave was developed as a tourist destination shortly after, and in 1909 the Monument was established by President Taft. The Monument was controlled by the Forest Service until it was transferred to Park Service hands in the 1930s. The Park Service took over tours from the concession in 2001.
