The Burrito Shop

I used to go here to pick up Mexican food a few times in the past and they were ok. However today I walked in to pick up my order and the place smelled bad. I almost wanted to walk out but I had ordered a burrito and steak tacos on the phone. As I expected, the food didn’t taste good. Never again.

I expected a whole lot more from this Barito shop as it’s parent company is College Avenue burrito shop it’s in a great location with great parking a simple place however the steak burrito did taste very greasy which overwhelmed the Burrito
The price was great at only six dollars

I’ve had better burritos at Taco Bell. And I get what I order at Taco Bell. Never going back to this place.

Good burritos, good salsa, well priced, choice of tortilla types & free chips if you eat-​in. Their only downfalls are the Costco chips and the lack of beer.
They would be the goto in the area if they up their chip-​game, but we have been frequenting the new Metro Taquero in downtown Hayward because of these two shortcomings.
I can only speak as to the veggie burritos, but they are good and we will come back again when in the area.

Called last night to place an order for pickup. Was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. Showed up 15 minutes later. She had me pay for the food I had called in and then told me my number. So. it wasn’t ready? Ok. so I sat down. I’m usually a patient person so I waited while the two teenage girls messed around cracking jokes and serving several other customers (one of which was angry they’d messed up the order) until after 20 minutes I’d had enough. I asked if my order was ready yet and they both looked confused and then went to a back counter to grab the bag that had apparently been sitting there since before I arrived. She didn’t apologize when she handed it to me. Is their job really that hard? They clearly don’t care about this place.
Food was just ok. Measly portions but a nice heat to them. Not enough for me to want to endure that kind of laziness from staff again.

It’s not going to be the nicest place, the parking is made up of a small shared lot with street parking around, if there is any, but the food is tasty. I only came in once but the time I did was good enough for me to go back. I ordered a super shredded chicken burrito classic with flour tortilla and it came wrapped in foil which as you should know keeps things warm, and with a side of some chips. Worth checking out!

I freaking love this place. Yeah it’s not the most comfortable to sit and eat at, and blah blah parking, but the burritos are big and tasty as heck.
I take Castro Valley BART, and sometimes when I’m coming home at the end of the day, cooking sounds like a really bad idea. I call up the kids at The Burrito Shop, let them know what I want, drive from BART to the shop, pick up my delicious burrito and I’m on my way. Bing bang boom, bob’s your uncle.
Also, I only ever get the grilled veggie burrito. It’s. Freaking. Great. I haven’t wanted to try anything else because that stupid burrito is so good. True — I do pile on their awesome Hotter salsa and pickled jalapenos — but damn yo. That burrito is a happy place.

Always came here for burritos until recently… Get their TACOS. Every single one of them is delicious!!! I think it should be called The Taco Shop! I hope this place never goes away, I’ve grown up eating here !!! 20+ years!

It’s hit and miss at this place, the person taking the order doesn’t listen to the order and I in up getting the a burrito that I didn’t order. I’m force to eat it, because it’s a take out. Something has to change there.

They are really good and fast. Fresh food always. My 2^nd favorite place to get a bite outside of that other burrito place.

I moved to Castro Valley two years ago and immediately went in search of the best taqueria in town. It took a lot of trial and error before I found this one, and it’s definitely our go-​to. I love their food because their ingredients always seem fresh, not greasy, not overly salty, and good quality (for example, I’ve never found gross grizzle or chunks of fat in my meat; much appreciated!). My favorites are their super burritos (with either grilled or shredded chicken or carnitas) and their nachos, which are HUGE. If my husband and I aren’t famished, sometimes we just share those. So the food is amazing and highly recommended.
What I don’t like is the parking. There are like three spots right out front, but those are always occupied, so you have to park on the street and usually I have to park pretty far down on an adjacent streets. I’ve started to park on Norbridge, but if you have to park far enough down, there are no sidewalks, so I’m not a fan.
Also, once I went and their credit card reader wasn’t working. They claimed that my credit card wasn’t charged for my food, but when I checked my account on my phone, the Burrito Shop had charged $ 25 to my card. They still refused to give me my food, even though I showed them my statement, so I left without my food and a charge on my card. But I love the food so much that I just send my husband with some cash to pick it up ;)

I love this place, the customer service is always great. Nice people and awesome food! I love the burritos… All of them. Highly recommend if you need a quick food fix that is of great quality.

We are regulars here and usually get the shrimp tacos or the steak tacos.
Their prices are a bit high, but the food has always been good.
The place is a bit run down. It could use a good remodel.

Was very good but not sure why they offer bowls and then put it on a platter instead. But food is delicious.

I’ve been going here for awhile and I love it. There is not much great eateries in Castro Valley, but this (and Portales Taqueria) is the exception. The food is great, and the price isn’t bad either. The location is convenient, although the parking can be hell. A perk is that you can call ahead to order, and even if you don’t the food doesn’t take too long. The staff is nice and the building itself is nice too.
Overall, it’s a great place that I would recommend to everyone-​especially if you love Mexican.

The food was decent, but I wasn’t able to get past the lack of cleanliness. There was dried food all over the walls, the floors, the tables, and the trash bin was smeared with who knows what. I don’t think I’ll ever go back because this place needs to be scrubbed down.

You don’t want to wait inline at Chipotle, DONT WORRY BOUT IT! The Burrito Shop’s got you. These burritos a little more messy, but give you a more of an authentic taste then the cookie cutter options down the road

Been coming here for 2 years now ever since we moved to CV, wanting to try the local flavor and this place became a hit when my husband and I explored their tacos. Forget the burritos, we don’t ever order those again, but we LOVE their tacos: Baja fish taco, grilled fish taco, Jalapeño steak tacos, and now the Cajun chicken tacos. Each comes with their own authentic flavors and believe me, they are full of flavors… look for their daily specials too!

I’m strangely confused on the negative reviews as in the 15+ years I have been a customer (my parents much longer) I have never had a real bad experience. I think my worst was the «burrito bowl» was a little less food than I was expecting.
Anywho, I have tried a plethora of items on their menu including their gourmet burritos and have been pleasantly surprised with the flavors in all of the food. The chips are good (better than most small eateries) and I like the salsa bar so I can mix my favorites (the hot salsa with the pico for some chunky goodness). I can never finish a burrito in one sitting either so it’s always guaranteed leftovers!
My husband and dad swear by their good old super burrito where they can still get ground beef (even though it isn’t on the menu).
Will be a customer for as long as I can!

Don’t do it!
There is no way anyone will ever get me to come here again. The chips were clearly cheap, salty ones with a rough texture out of a bag, the customer service was lacking, and the food was gross. End of story.
