History
Established in 2007.
Castle Rock Aikido & Iaido was first open its doors in April 2007 as the only traditional, Japanese martial arts school in Colorado that was exclusively for adults. That’s right. No Kids Allowed. This martial arts school has identified a growing demographic of adults who are specifically looking for adult only martial arts programs. These people want to be able to completely and totally focus on themselves for just a few hours each week — a place where they can get away from the overwhelming responsibilities of work, home, and child raising for just a little while. Castle Rock Aikido & Iaido provides just that.
At this school, adults have the opportunity to socialize exclusively with other adults, to de-stress, to physically reconnect with themselves, and get centered psychologically. In fact, it is not uncommon for parents and couples to train Aikido together where they can reconnect with each other, as adults, and step outside their non-stop roles of Mom and Dad.

Business Owner
Dr. Sean Hannon, DC began his study of Okinawan Karate in New Jersey (1990) earning his black belt in 1995. He began training Japanese Aikido in 1996 under 5th degree black belt, Greg O’Connor Sensei of Aikido Centers of New Jersey. He also trained Aikido with Masayuki Kaneshi-Mesa Shihan in Rock Island, Illinois and briefly with 7th degree black belt, David Shaner Sensei in Greenville, South Carolina. He is an avid fan of classic Japanese martial arts philosophy and how to apply such in contemporary society.
After a debilating spinal injury that left him unable to walk for over a full year, Sean re-evaluated his priorities and decided that one of the things that made him most happy in life was practicing the art of Aikido. Since there was no Aikido program in his town of residence, he took it upon himself create an Aikido school right here in Castle Rock. Sean now a student in his own martial arts school.
