Mogastone Granite & Marble

The quote from Mogastone: «We don’t want your business. The hell with you!» The backstory: In the showroom on Saturday afternoon, they assured us a «by Friday» installation. Since we were hosting a baby shower the following Saturday, we hired them even though their quote was the highest one we got BY FAR. On Monday they called to schedule a Thursday afternoon installation with a fallback date of Saturday. Fallback date? Nobody said there’d be a fallback date! Already things were taking a turn for the worse. But they made us feel optimistic about the Thursday timeslot, so we took it. On Thursday morning, I called to confirm the installation, and they said they’d let us know if they couldn’t make it. I told them they could come as early or late as they needed. So far so good? Finally, 5 PM rolls around, and my wife calls to find out why they weren’t there yet. That’s when they informed her that they couldn’t make it, and they’d have to come on Saturday morning instead. Since a Saturday installation was going to make things very tough for us, my wife pleaded with them to either come late Thursday evening or early on Saturday to give us as much time as possible between the installation and the party. Yes, my wife complained about having been assured an installation by Friday while in the showroom, but never once did she raise her voice or become unruly as I probably would have done. And even if she had, she still wouldn’t have deserved what she got from them. At the end of the phone call, my wife got transferred to the manager. He didn’t even wait for her to tell her story, he just hung up on her while he told her: «We don’t want your business. The hell with you!» So now we’ll have plywood for a countertop at our baby shower, and we’ll have to be placed at the end of the queue at one of the more reasonably priced granite providers. Our experience went from «yes we can get it installed by Friday» to «the hell with you» in just five short days. Save yourself some money and the headache of working with this company. The reasonably priced granite store in Cary featured on HGTV’s Love It or List It is just a couple miles away from Mogastone. That’s where we’ll be crawling back to now.

My wife and I shopped a variety of granite distributors for our new kitchen — both retail and wholesale warehouses — and ended up purchasing from Mogastone and were extremely pleased we did. First, all the staff at the office was so nice and informative: Maria, Anca and Constantine were in the showroom when we first visited and they were patient, thoughtful and very helpful. In particular, we wanted a bevel that wasn’t too sharp (an Ogee, they call it), and they were very accommodating where other retailers were not. Constantine explained that they would raise the router to achieve a more rounded, smoother bevel and that worked out just the way we wanted.
Next, we found that they had the best selection of even some of the warehouses we visited and were delighted to find a unique «Sienna Bordeaux» which had a beautiful movement in the stone that we were able to showcase on our various counter tops. Once again, Constantine was very helpful in helping us line up where the cuts and shapes were going to be made to make sure we got the most beautiful parts of the stone for our kitchen.
Weeks later, when our new cabinets were installed, Nick came out for the final measure. Nick was very knowledgeable and made several recommendations that we hadn’t thought about and even some that at first we didn’t want. An example was when he suggested that we have them make end pieces that go along the wall to make clean up easier and to have a more finished look, we were at first against it but told him to make them anyway and that we’d decide upon installation whether or not we wanted them.
On installation day, four workers showed up along with Constantine himself. The install went completely smoothly, despite them having to cut some of the walls out to make the granite fit correctly. It was SO nice to have one part of our renovation go smoothly and without a hitch! And, sure enough, when they placed the end pieces they looked great. They even put the Ogee edge on the top of these end pieces. Thanks, Nick!
Overall, we are extremely pleased with Mogastone and highly recommend them. We will definitely use them again if and when we need more granite or any other surface. Thanks to everyone there!

Not as perfect a fit as we’re used to.
This is our 2^nd house that we’ve installed solid surface counters. The first was in Oregon ten years ago for engineered quartz. To measure the space that company used lasers measurements and cut the stone to exactly fit the contours of the walls using a computer run CNC machine. The resulting fit was perfect, even though I’m sure that few homes are perfectly square.
Mogastone is what I call old school. They used measuring tape for the dimensions and straight saws for the cutting of the granite. Once on site, they determined that their perfectly square cut pieces did not exactly fit the space. They fixed the problem by scripting out pieces of the drywall (see picture), chiseling out some cabinet, and torqueing our vertical refrigerator panel. The slight imperfections along the wall will hopefully be covered adequately when we install our tile backsplash, but if we had chosen a painted, or thinner solution (like we did in Oregon), that wouldn’t have worked.
Despite the lack of technology it all worked out. But next time I’ll investigate further to see if this major metropolitan area has a supplier that uses modern day technologies.
The Positives: Great selection of Italian and Brazilian granite. On par pricing. Very personable and professional. Responsive staff. On time. Family owned and run. Installation team works for Mogastone (the lead is a Moga). Also on time, clean and professional. Answered all of our questions. Their recommended plumber has also been great. Our cabinet team has experience with Mogastone and approves.

In anticipation of remodeling my bathroom I checked out a couple of granite/​marble suppliers close to my home in Morrisville. My experience was so dreadful at one supplier I almost gave up hoping for good qualified help with my choice. I then remembered Mogastone on Chapel Hill Rd, which I often pass in my travels. Soon as I pulled in Anca, one of the employees signaled that she saw me and would be with me in a moment, even though she was serving another customer at that moment. When she was free she promptly, and with a genuine smile, greeted me and offered to help with my decision. Though she did not have exactly what I was after right there, she sent me to two of her suppliers to look over their offerings. I found the perfect Carrera Marble for my bath. Mogastone was able to turn around the install in a few short days and their professionalism was top notch. The counter actually far exceeded my expectation and I couldn’t be happier with it. But the best part was Anca! She made me feel like she was happy to have my business and to help me. A truly great experience and I have already recommended her/​Mogastone to a person who is going to replace her counters soon. A satisfied customer is always the best advertisement and Mogastone is by far and away a top notch company. I will use them again and only them when I renovate my kitchen soon. Just had a beautiful granite counter installed in our bathroom from Mogastone. We visited a large number of different companies in our search, and Mogastone came out on top in terms of quality, customer service, price and professional clean showroom.

We were forced to get new counter tops because our 20 year old stove top glass shattered and the sizes of all the new stoves are smaller than the opening cut in the existing counter. I got several estimates and Mogastone was the best value and the counter top looks great! The crew they sent installed the counter top quickly and professionally.
