The See Center

I have been a customer of Dr. Corbit-​Drakulich since 2006. I originally ordered a pair of eyeglasses and received OK service.
The summer of 2013 I finally decided to lose my eyeglasses and opt for Lasik eye surgery. I went to an outside company in hopes of getting the surgery. I learned I had an eye disease which needed to be corrected and was referred back to Dr. Corbit-​Drakulich.
I returned to Dr. Corbit-​Drakulich for help in correcting my eyes. Dr. Corbit-Drakulich’s husband, Luke (Office Manager), attempted to sell me another set of eyeglasses. I opted for hard corrective contact lenses and needed to come back for an eye exam.
After returning for for my contact exam, I was a little bummed when Dr. Corbit-​Drakulich advised they didn’t have my contacts in stock and they had to be ordered. I was then led back to Luke after showing interest in Oakley sunglasses they had displayed in the retail portion of their establishment.
I ended up purchasing a pair of custom Oakley sunglasses with an additional lense. These had to be ordered as well.
A short time later, I was called by Luke and advised my sunglasses had arrived. I questioned the availability of my contacts. They were still not available and I was advised they’d arrive shortly. I decided to pick up my sunglasses and pay for them using my Care Credit account (or so I thought). Payments were made to Care Credit and the line of credit extended was paid in full.
Approximately 1 month later, I called Dr. Corbit-Drakulich’s office and inquired about the availability of my contacts. Still, my contacts were not available and again was advised they should arrive shortly.
I began to call Dr. Corbit-Drakulich’s office on a weekly basis for another month, finally giving up on the process.
At this point I felt as if I was getting the «runaround». I had only purchased sunglasses.
On 01−15− 2015, approximately 1 ½ years later, I received a collection notice indicating Dr. Corbit-Drakulich’s business (the See Center) as the collection account.
I contacted the See Center and spoke with Luke. I explained the above to Luke. Luke advised he needed to investigate the matter and he’d contact me on their next business day.
Luke responded with an email. The following text is word for word, his response:
Ben,
I was able do some further research, and I did find that you had ordered a pair of sunglasses from Oakley, which were custom plano lenses with an extra pair of lenses. I was unable to find your phone number so, hopefully, this will get to you. Please give me a call with any questions

I responded to Luke’s email with:
Luke,
I absolutely ordered a pair of Oakley sunglasses through your company. These sunglasses were paid for using Care Credit. I believe we discussed this on 1-​16-​2014 and you were in agreement. Further, I explained I had all intentions of purchasing hard contacts needed for help correct my Keratoconus as I wanted to receive Lasik. To date, I have only received one pair of Oakley sunglasses with the additional lense from your company (which have been paid for)… nothing further.
I left a message on the number you provided.
Can you please contact me at the number you have on file as well as the number I gave you on 1−16−2014… (I provided my number)
So far I am very displeased with your company and the lack of professionalism displayed. I did not receive the service nor product I expected from you. Yet, you sent my account to a collection agency.

After my email response, I received a phone call from Luke telling me I ordered and picked up not only my sunglasses but the pair of eyeglasses I opted out of for the contact lenses. I explained to Luke that I never received the eyeglasses nor did I ever want them. I specifically wanted hard contact lenses and scheduled an appointment accordingly.
I knew I hadn’t received any eyeglasses and told Luke I would need a signed receipt of the eyeglasses (knowing I never signed for the receipt of the fictional eyeglasses). Luke advised he couldn’t provide the receipt and told me he would keep me in collections until I could prove I never received them.
Further, to help the issue, I offered to pay the $ 225.00 if Luke could provide me the eyeglasses. Luke declined and told me I already had them then told me he was with a customer and hung up.
I am extremely displeased with the See Center as well as the Drakulich’s. I called and asked to speak specifically to Dr. Corbit-​Drakulich and explained the actions I would take to remove this collection from credit history as well as documentation through the BBB.
I didn’t hear anything else from anyone with the the See Center.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Corbit-​Drakulich for almost 10 years, not long after she first opened the See Center in Carson City. I’ve seen Janet and her husband, Luke, grow the See Center into a thriving optometry business, as well as expand their family over the years. I first started visiting her for routine annual exams and for updating my prescription glasses and contacts. Her examinations have always been thorough and she has always taken the time to explain any issues that arise. I have never felt rushed or that she was distracted or disengaged during my examination. I began suffering from painful recurrent corneal abrasions about four years ago, and Janet was the first person I went to see. She diagnosed the condition, referred me to an ophthalmologist and closely consulted with him, and ultimately advised me of my treatment options. I chose to undergo laser surgery three years ago. Janet performed all of the pre-​op and post-​op examinations in close consultation with the laser clinic and everything turned out wonderfully. No more pain and ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision in both eyes! I moved to Reno a few years ago, but I still make the drive to Carson City for my annual eye exams at the See Center. I couldn’t ask for a more capable and professional doctor to care for my vision.
