OMG! This DMV office is sooo way better than anything in CA hat I’ve been to! So much more efficient and friendly. I heard the Reno office is a lot more crowded and Vegas, you might as well be in a LA DMV! Coming to the Crason City DMV was convenient as my BF lives here in Carson. I had to get my NV drivers license. I got in line 20 minutes before the place opens at 8am. I was just third in line, but soon after the line was maybe 15 people long. A nice lady came around about 10 till 8 with forms to fill out ahead and a number for which window to go to when the doors open. How’s that for efficiency? Like being in line at the IN N Out and the order taker comes by the cars to get order in faster with a wireless tablet!
I get in right to my window. The staff is friendly and knows their stuff and all the forms they need and filled out. I took the written test … OMG … NV test is so easy!, got my pic taken and done! I was outta here in less than one hr … 35 – 40 minutes maybe! So, the lesson is, get here a little early and get in line, then it’s BAM right through! If you don’t and come in with no appointment in the middle of the day, like a friend of mine did, you’ll wait up to 3 hrs! Making an appointment means you won’t have to wait as long.
This was the easiest DMV experience I’ve ever had. They take credit cards too right at the desk. I was looking at the online website and that seems the way to go for most things. Easy to renew stuff once you get in the system, like car registration every year.

Wow! I was shocked when we went to this DMV. People from Nevada are spoiled! This was not like the typical government experience in other states (moved around in the military). The people here are very nice! The service experience is excellent. They even can joke around a little! Nice!

How can a federally funded state agency be closed on holidays other than federal holidays? Nevada DMV was closed from December 24, 2015 to December 28, 2015 all the while, I’m sure, sucking up their already exorbitant salaries. This «Let them eat cake» attitude is unacceptable. I had urgent business with the DMV, on a normal business day and was denied service. Bureaucracy (government by many bureaus, administrators, and petty officials) is a bloated bane on this country. I am furious!

No one ever seems to enjoy a trip to the DMV and I am one of those people. I thought they were doing good when you could check in from home and wait for a text to head down there. They soon put the kibosh on that and now you have to wait in line to check in, just to have to wait again, sometimes more than an hour, for a text. For this location, I normally go across the street while I’m waiting and visit Shotz Bakery for something to keep me from loosing my cool.
This location is normally less crowded than the Reno location but the staff seem a lot less friendly and not very knowledgeable. I’ve been given conflicting information numerous times from this location, Reno always seems to be on the ball.

No DMV experience is ever ideal but I had had it with Reno’s DMV. The insane wait and disrespectful employees were too much. I headed to Carson City DMV and with their phone pre check in I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Super friendly employees everywhere! Don’t mess with Reno DMV, you will never get that time back in your life, drive the 20 miles and have a painless experience in Carson City!

The vehicle was purchased out of state and not in the state for the registration process. Owner is a student in the South. Nevada Resident, of course.
First I call DMV to find out how I go about registering a vehicle that is not physically here… Well it is Friday at 445 pm, okay, not the cream of the crop, but «NO it cannot be done» «vehicle must come to NV for the somg check» Really, I say, well how did you accept my other childs out of state smog cert when she was in college on the east coast? «That was different as this is a FIRST time smog cert». Okay, better go in and talk to someone.
Tuesday AM (Reno) ladies at the «info» desk. «NO, no way this cannot be done, you MUST have a NEVADA DMV inspector check the VIN number, and a NEVADA smog certificate». Really, so I ask «you mean to tell me I have to ship the car across country so a Nevada DMV person can inspect the VIN and get a Nevada Smog certificate?» believe it or not they both said YES, this is the only way this can be done. So I ask, «well what does a Nevadan in the Military do to register their cars?“Their answer «oh, they just register them in the state where they are based»…Liar, read your own website for goodness sake, if you do not know the answer, please do not make something up…
so I finally ask to talk to a Supervisor, and low and behold you CAN register a vehicle in NV that is not physically located in the state. They accept other states Smog certificates AND believe it or not accept VIN checks from Police Officers in OTHER states.
next visit, after a 3 hour wait…
Nice gentleman, very well informed, knowlegeble. Got me thru in a reasonable time frame. Job completed.
Please DMV try and EDUCATE your people, a rudimentary knowledge of your regulation would be somewhat helpful. and please tell your employees that if they do not know the answer DO NOT MAKE SOMETHING UP, try and research the answer, perhaps ask someone more knowledgable than you, or just admit you do not know.

It’s the DMV, have the right attitude and prepare for your wait. Heck, if you’re real smart, use the automated system they’ve invented to avoid the wait.
Alas, I didn’t follow that advice, and so I waited about 1.5 hours for my turn, but I expected it.
The person that waited on me, and I’m sorry I forgot her name, was great. She had a positive attitude, we laughed a bit as we were attempting to determine my hair color, for the record, it’s brown at least one more time.
Thanks again to the hard working folks at the DMV, I appreciate the work they do and their ability to maintain a positive attitude.

Well the truth is, the employee was rude today. I have dealt 4 times with the State employees in one month and we had the rotten peach at the bottem of the crate today. Booth 11 was rude, demanding, decisive, and needs another job! The other three were fine.

I was at the dmv this morning at around 10 am and just needed a placard printed out I cannot believe how rude the lady helping me is. I expected the dmv experience to be terrible but she should not be in customer service

Waited for 3 hours to renew a drivers license. Woman at counter said wait would be 60 minutes. This place sucks.

So i’ve been here for couple of times, first time been here when i wanted to make the state ID, then had my driver test and last was for road test.
Experiences were always nice & friendly staff until when i had my first road test. The blonde lady who was my examiner and her ID is KF2890 (i forgot her name) was so rude and kinda bitchy.
I feel the rude and bitchy things going on since we were still on the road test. When i wanted to make a left turn and suddenly she just like scream at me STOP!!!
I was kinda shocked so i did stop and my head think what did i do wrong? there was a green light and why she asked me to stop? or maybe because she was afraid if i did it and make the left turn slow and the uncoming car could’ve been /​will hit on her side ROFL
Then when she asked me to make another turn around neighborhood, and i asked her to make sure that way that she want, she talked to me with high & not in a good way. She said i am not supposed to talk and look at her, so i just oh okay sorry. (oh okay sorry Bitch … that was in my head)
So i failed that test after she told what did i do bla bla. She told us, don’t expect the same road like today for next test. And again not in a good attitude (i can’t describe it with any words, it just something that i can see and hear) it was more like telling us, don’t try that same road again. Hellooooo!!! you don’t have to said that.
Then last test, my examiner was sooooooooo nice, friendly. Her name is Abigail (i remember her name because she is a very nice lady) She was so different with that blonde one. First i didn’t dare to be nice /​friendly with her because i don’t want another screaming person.
When we got inside the car, she started to talk with me & we went around and we had some nice comfortable conversation which was relax me out.
And i told her about my previous experience that she is different and very friendly and helps the nerves gone.
So after got the paperwork, i saw my score point from the previous one and i was shocked, pissed with the blonde one.
She even didn’t give me 1% SCORE, she gave me 0% SCORE!!!
WOwwww… really!!! Am i that worst driver? 0% was just like i didn’t do anything good at all. Hey i know how to turn the signal & i stopped at the stop sign, where’s my point for that?
It was just so F*cking RUDE BITCH! (pardon the language) Unbelieveable!!! I got 0% it was more like i failed for every single thing i did.
I hope that blonde bitch need to be put to work in the backside of the office, because as an examiner, she doesn’t really helps much but make it worst. People who wants take their test, needs to be relax to help the nerves. If you can’t be so friendly at least don’t SCREAMING, because it’s not ALLOWED to scream’/ yell for.

People like her, doesn’t belong to work as a public worker & if you are a racist for any immigrant, so i guess DMV is not your place to work with especially for an examiner position because lots of immigrants will do the test.

Okay here it is. Holy shit, 3 fucking hours, the things I could do in three hours. Why the wait Dmv, it’s not like I have places to be or people to see. On the contrary, I’m jobless, broke, and don’t want to work. But for everyone else out there, wtf.
In my best Randy Taylor voice, I shout «Son of a bitch! Somebody needs their ass kicked! Some little consumer geekazoid thought this shit up! Save money, yeah, save money, I want to eat god dam it!» Okay so I’m not hungry nor am I Randy Taylor, but my imitation just about sums up Dmv experience. I guess this is what pissed off conservatives feel like. I can only say, I do sympathize. Fucking bureaucrats.
How I see it.
Ms. Dmv lady why is it taking so long? Am I still in the line?
«There are 4 lines that and some are at lunch. Oh and the line you are put in is chosen at random by the magical Dmv ferries, they are mysterious little critters. So don’t ask which line you are in.»
So, Ms. Dmv lady how are the 4 lines structured? Are they tiered on gold, silver, bronze and something else based on how much money a person has?
«No dumbass, the 4 lines are representations of fire, ice, water, and wind.»
But Ms. Dmv lady, I’ve seen people come and go while I’ve been waiting here for hours.
«Those who come and go have scheduled appointments online.»
But Ms. Dmv lady I was sitting there right next to the desk. I have seen numerous people come here and get their numbers right there, get called up to the window, get served and go. Have they all been waiting for 3 hours like me?
«Yes, those who come and go wait in line at their house. «While the Dmv lady is typing on the computer the only noise in the whole Dmv is the keystrokes and crickets because she is taking so long looking up my number. «There you are you little shit that’s what you get since you keep asking I’m deleting you from the line, and if you don’t like it you can eat shit,» exclaims Dmv lady.
Ms. Dmv lady how are we supposed to know if we are still in the line to be called?
«We don’t want you to know that’s why we don’t post any information about who is still in the line or not. We just post numbers in random order on different screens scattered thought out the Dmv. That is also why we have only one speaker on one side of the Dmv and not the other, so people can’t hear their number. Muwaha ha ha ha.»
Ms. Dmv lady, is that why all the dozen monitors all have different numbers on them instead one set of numbers on all the monitors to keep it simple for people who are being called to the window?
«No that is for a different reason. That’s so we could make room for advertising on the screens right next to the numbers and confuse you, and by the way you missed your call. There is a machine over there that costs $ 3 if you don’t want to wait in line. If you still want to wait I can put you at the front of the line.»
But Ms. Dmv lady, why isn’t this whole process quick, free, and easy to use?
«That’s right, it makes no sense doesn’t it.»
YEAH, it’s about fucking time I get called, and all I had to do was ask magical Dmv ferries to put me at the front of the line. I’m finally at the window. I give the title to the lady for the car that was totaled last summer and tell her I want the title in my name. She says «no problem.» A while later she says, «wait, you filled the form out wrong. The original owner has to come here and sign an affidavit in front of a Dmv Employee.» YOU GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME, I WAIT ALL THIS TIME FOR NOTHING. On top of that I have to pay $ 100+ to put a car that will never be on the road again in my name. I guess I’ll just sell the car piece by piece.
When I first showed up here, I specifically asked the lady at the front if this title sale was filled out okay. I’ll give it to her she didn’t say yes or no, she just gave me a number. In all honesty I thought it was a chance, although a slim one, nevertheless a chance I’d get the title right then and there.
Note, I don’t want anyone fired, an even bigger dumb-​ass will probably be the replacement. It’s just that someone needs to get their ass whooped.
Bring cell phones I apparently these magical, mystical number that are scattered across the Dmv are phone numbers. Perhaps they will text you when it’s your turn, it would make sense wouldn’t it. In my case, my number was my birth year since I didn’t have a cell.
And come on Dmv, I could barely hear the numbers from one of the seats I was sitting in, and the monitors why couldn’t they all be the same numbers without the fucking advertising. Who would have thought that shit up. Are you salaried by the level of your bureaucratic stupidity Dmv. Dam, fuck, shit, kitchen sink.

Out of all of the DMVs I’ve been to, I gotta say that I love this one the best!
Never any wait (today was a walk in and I have less than a 20 min wait). Friendly staff (security guard was friendly and gave me some good advice)…
And they text with updates! Now the wait is less than 10 minutes!

Ever since the Protect ATV Dealers From Out Of State Sales Act was passed, my ATV has remained criminally unregistered. I finally decided it was time to pay my $ 20 so they could afford to do all those great things for us ATV riders that they promised.
I’m joking, of course.
Anyway, I sent in all my paperwork to the DMV, but since I bought it so long ago they sent everything back and said, «Oh no, you’ll have to bring it down here so we can eyeball that VIN #.»
Yeah, I’ll get right on that.
So I try again [much] later, and I call them to see about coming down. «Oh no, you don’t come here, we have nothing to do with that! That’s the OHV Department! They do everything by mail! You need to take it to a dealer or show it to the cops!»
So I go to the dealer, but they sneer at me because I didn’t buy it there. «Just call the Sheriff’s Department and they’ll send someone to your house.»
Really?
So I call dispatch and they’re like they do this a hundred times a day. I tell them I’ll be home in five minutes, but the two volunteers take their sweet time getting there. It takes them seven minutes. They fill out my form and compliment me on my neatness, call in the VIN, sign and date, and they’re on their way.
Wish someone at The DMV That Has Nothing To Do With OHV Registration had the brains to tell me this in the first #@$*&^@ place. OHV registration is a real amateur setup.

I’ve been here a handful of times in the past 10 years and every visit is as pleasant as can be for a DMV. Today I went in for information only. I walked directly to the info desk and inquired about changing my name on car registration and what documents were needed. Within 3 minutes of entry my business was complete! Name changed! I even was able to sign a petition to legalize marijuana outside the front door!
I have been to the Truckee, CA and Tempe, AZ DMV offices and have literally waited for hours on end like slow water torture!!!

Really it is 4.5 stars, I had a comfortable 25 minute wait, rounded up to 5 stars.
The last time I set foot in a DMV it was the San Francisco, CA DMV which is medieval; 2 hour standing lines, stand in front of each agent, a place people would allocate a half day to visit. What pregnant or elderly people do, I have no idea. Lots of signs warning that people who abuse DMV employees will be imprisoned, I guess after standing in line for 2 hours people start to get cranky.
The Carson City, Nevada DMV is a 21^st century model of customer service by comparison. Wait 30 seconds in line at the information booth, followed by sitting down (or taking care of errands around town) with cell phone updates about where you are in the queue. Sit down to discuss a new license with a pleasant employee, finish up, done. What’s not to like?
(While I was waiting the TV screen was describing the Nevada Goal Zero traffic safety program. California and especially San Francisco would do well to copy that as well. The California attitude towards traffic fatalities often seems complacent.)
The Carson City DMV is a great first government agency to meet when moving to Nevada. California should fire the top 100 people at the California DMV, and bring in the people behind this one.

This great review is for Desire Meenan, a worker at the information counter in the Carson DMV. My 88 year old grandmother was the leinholder and registered owner of my car, making it impossible for me to get anything done registration wise.
Desire helped us right away. She was professional, personable, and so, so helpful. I had paid $ 400 to register my car in Nevada because the CA DMV told me I couldn’t register my car in CA with expired NV registration. Desire was able to confirm that I did not need to do that and she got her supervisor to refund my money.
She was the most straightforward, truthful DMV worker I have ever encountered! She treated my grandmother and I as if she were helping out her own family. I truely appreciated that level of service. She rocks!!!

I wish other states DMV’s were like Nevada. My family bought a boat with a California title that is all jacked up. While two local DMV offices gave me info that sent me on a wild goose chase I said enough and called Carson City, aka the main DMV. 9 minutes later 2 months of jumping through hoops was over with due to a nice lady named Morgan who quickly got me what I needed, and explained the process. I am impressed and as such want to give them credit where credit is due.

On the day I went there, I was able to walk right up to the info counter, get my ‘beef’ taken care of (not to my satisfaction, but not their fault). Turns out, my CDL re-​certification background check was being held up by the FBI (sheer laziness, I’m sure) and was out of their hands.
Finally, about a week later, it was taken care of and I didn’t lose any work.

It’s as good as you can get for a DMV. I had to come in on Monday to get my driver’s license renewed. Total time spent at the DMV: 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Here are some tips to make your visit as pleasant as possible.
* Avoid coming anytime between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. The DMV staff take their lunch breaks and the number of people who help you drop precipitously from 13 available to … 4.
* If you are coming in for a driver’s license renewal, fill out the yellow form at the first desk you see when you walk in, THEN get into the information line. Otherwise, you’ll have to do what 847 other people like me did — get in line, wait, then find out you need to fill out the form, and get back in line.
* Once you are in the information line, you are photographed, then assigned a number to wait your turn to take an eye test and pay for your renewal ($ 22). Bring something to read to kill time, but please don’t spend it on your cell phone discussing intimate issues with your life partner loudly so that the rest of the waiting room can hear.
* Once you take the eye test and pay for your renewal, your about to expire driver’s license is punched and you are handed a piece of paper that allows you to drive until your NEW driver’s license arrives in your mail box. This means you don’t get to see how awful your picture on the driver’s license is until it’s too late to complain about it or re-​do.
I looooove people-​watching at the DMV.
* 92 years old and barely able to shuffle across the room? Sure, get your driver’s license renewed.
* Weighing over 400 pounds and can barely button your shirt to hide your hairy buddha beer belly? Sure, take up two seats in the waiting room.
* Can’t get bothered to dress like a normal human being? Come on in — they’ll help you even if you are wearing shredded up bedroom slippers, pajama bottoms and a flannel shirt with enough holes in it to expose fishbelly white skin.
