Bob’s Shell Service

Worst shop in Carson. Gone in twice, both times the owner Bob was totally nasty and rude. Eventually gave me a quote for triple what any other shop said. I thought I would give him a secend chance after being refered there and again walked out after his horrible quote and nasty attitude. He can’t be bothered with writing quotes. I will never set foot in there again, hope he goes out of biz.

I went here to get my truck smog tested. The tech got the job done really fast. I think they charge too much for the service though and that is why I subtracted two stars.

It was a small pop-​up camper tank, and I was just getting it topped off before a week long camping trip, which I told the guy before he filled it.

The service I received by Bob and his crew was truly exceptional. Fitting tie chains to my truck proved to be a challenge but Bob wouldn’t quit until I had the proper chains which he custom cut for a perfect fit. I was so impressed I will always stop at Bob’s Shell service when we visit the Reno Carson area… Thanks Bob…

Bob’s Shelll has been very good to me, with top service: smog, oil change, maintenance, service checks. Always quickly, fairly priced and courteous staff. My service has always been a walk-​in, and that was never a problem. I get a thank you post card in the mail too! Nice touch, helps remind me when I last did my oil. Bob is great owner/​operator and his guys are knowledgeable, helpful and the best!

9÷21÷2013 I was in South Lake Tahoe for a week long bicycle ride across Nevada. When I arrived in Tahoe I noticed I had a screw in one of my tires but it was too late to get it fixed that night so I figured I could get it done the next day which was Sunday. On Sunday, I did a Unilocal search and Bob’s Shell station was the ONLY business open to repair tires. So I made the short drive to Carson City to his station. When I arrived his technician was assisting another customer. It was a beautiful day so I chilled knowing my tire would be repaired that day. Soon he was fixing my tire. The technician was good before he took the tire off he marked the stem and weight location. The other great thing is they patch flats from inside the tire instead of a plug. A short time later the tire was back on the car. $ 26 not bad and the confidence that it was fixed properly. Everyone was super nice and knew what they were doing. So make a mental note Bob’s Shell Station is there to help you out!

Bob personally performed my smog check and got it done it a timely fashion. Good ol’ Nevada hospitality. Staff was friendly as well and cleaned my windshield and back window — thanks for that.

I’ve only been here once so far, but these guys were super-​nice and treated me right. Even though it was a Sunday, they had my car in a bay within 10 minutes. They got right to work, didn’t try to make my issues into some «critical» problem, gave me a fair price and got me out the door pretty quickly. I hope that I don’t have anymore car problems anytime soon, but if I do, this will be where I go. Really refreshing experience! Highly recommended!

40 $ for a smog check is out of control. guess you can get top dollar when you are one of two places in carson that smog check.

I suspected the thermostat in my Jeep had bit the dust– the temperature wouldn’t go past about 120 degrees F, which indicated to me that it was stuck open. I purchased one at the auto parts store, looked at the location of the bolts holding the housing, and decided to let Bob’s Shell deal with it.
(NOTE: This is a Shell station, not a Texaco as it’s listed. Hopefully this will be corrected soon, along with the duplicate entry)
I made a nine o’clock appointment and got there early. They were assisting some stranded travelers with flats and apologized for not being able to jump right on it.
It took a little longer than I expected, as he had trouble getting a good seal, and he accidentally turned the engine on without hooking up the sensor so they had to reset the «Engine» light. But they did bring the destroyed thermostat out to show me that I had been correct in my analysis.
All in all, they did a good job, I’m making heat again, and it’s conveniently located down town, kitty-​corner from the State Museum. Three young men working there, all very polite and business-​like. I would definitely trust them to work on my car again.
