Great quality school

I’m giving UWG 5 stars because I had a great experience there as an undergrad. I won’t put the time frame because that’ll give my age and a lady never tells their age right? LOL. I’ll just say that it was right after the «State» was dropped from the name and I think we were still the Braves my freshmen year (figured my age yet?). Ok now for the review. When I started at UWG we didn’t have nearly as many «amenities» as the students have now but we made the best of our experience. I sometimes heard my peer complain about some of the offices but I personally never experienced any major issues with any of the offices or academic departments. Since graduating I have also worked as a full-​time employee at UWG so I have had the opportunity to see many of the changes made since myUWG days. The stadium, the library, new residence halls, new dining hall, etc. It is amazing to see such growth. I was a dual business major and I believe that I received a good education from the college of business. I have also witnessed many of my peers go on to do great things after graduation and I’d like to think a portion of that is because of UWG. Many of the professors that I had during my time there were great– they actually seemed to care about students and education. Now, don’t get me wrong there were those professors that were obviously just there for a check… but they were outweighed by the caring ones. I hope this generation of students appreciate the luxuries they have at UWG now because I didn’t xx years ago. As an employee there, I think UWG is a great place. The only complaint for that aspect is the pay– but I think that’s a USG issue rather than a UWG issue because I also worked at another Georgia institution and the pay wasn’t too great there either and UWG definitely beats that larger institution when it comes to the culture and the colleagues. I really cherish my student and employee memories/​experiences at UWG.

This school is so «frustrating» daughter goes all through elementary, middle school, high school with either IEP/​504B plan and no one at this school could tell us prior to attending in the Fall of 2014 what we needed to do or how to go about putting things in place for assistance! Not like our daughter wanted to have a brain tumor that left her with some learning issues… she has busted her butt to struggle and get through and graduate and get accepted to college, never mind taking SAT & ACT several times and taking the study programs for those tests. Week prior to finals are when we were able to get her classified and get some assistance, after struggling through the entire semester and talking to ALL her professors! NOT understanding why college professors think they are GOD and all have chips on there shoulders? English teacher refused to let kids go to Writing Center to have papers review because according to her it in HS and they don’t know what we are writing about. Purpose was to review and edit not sure they would have to know what the paper is to be about. Should be able to get it reviewed prior to submitting them to teacher, and for some reason my FRESHMAN daughter was put in a biology class where she was one of 3 freshman everyone else was Jr./Sr. Which the teacher stated to my daughter when she would ask for clarification on info. that they weren’t in HS anymore… NICE! Would be nice if counselors actual reviewed the kids transcript and do there job BUT I guess there job is to make the school money which they were successful with since my daughter ended up failing Biology and do she will have to take it again.
May want to think twice, three times prior to spending the money for this school.

Came to the campus on Saturday for a code class with Ucode. This is a program that offers free code/​programming classes for kids. The campus is nice and the fact that it’s offered as a place for teachers/​assistant to come and offer their free time to teach kids these skills is phenomenal. All college campuses should do this and as long as they offer it we will be there. Great job UWG.

This review is for the Ingram Library. I am not a student here. I called from some distance asking for a certain reference book. The people on this campus were very courteous and friendly, I didn’t have to pay for parking, and the librarians went out of their way to make sure that I found what I needed. After studying at some pretty-​big places, I am impressed by how organized the library is — how helpful the librarians are. Also, I can’t believe that the library is open 24 hours several days of the week.

I went here from 72 till 80 receiving both my BA and MEd here. I loved going to school here. I have made life long friends that still live in Carrollton and I try to go back every few years and visit with them. The town has grown so much since I was there it is hard to recognize. The place that used to be the Mansion Restaurant was a head shop when I was there and rented out the second and third floors to students. I had a room only with the stove and refrigerator out in the hall with a shared bathroom with 4 other people. I went on and got licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania in 1990 and presently live in Tennessee with a mental health private practice in the town I live in. I grew up at West Georgia professionally and personally so I will always love that college and town…

Well well… after being here for so many years, I do believe UWG do deserve a more updated review from Moi…
University of West GA has undergone some major changes over the past year or two (on some, maybe even more.) First of all, we now have an awesome Rec Center that have new work out equipment, different classes for different activities like Yoga, Spinning, Pilates, Hip-​Hop dance class etc. We still also have a decent rock climbing spot, a track, a basket ball gym, a small game center, ballrooms, and chill out spots all over this one Rec Building. Also, the Rec center offers out of school activities like Kayaking trips, Rock Climbing camps, and oh, they even rent out bikes to students as well. This one area also have movie showings, speaker presentations and so much more… and that’s just one building folks.
The new Library opened for Fall 2011. The new Library is slick, very modern, and just really nice. They had made it more spacious, brighter, newer with more computers and you can also check out laptops as well. This new library is just so much better all in all. I haven’t even toured the whole library to be honest with you but it is pretty big. They almost always have some kind of poetry reading or some kind of author visiting and reading in the library. Also, a lot more seating area to sit and chill or even study: P. Most of the center tables they have scattered all across the facility have a built-​in plug so you can plug in your laptops almost everywhere! Another interesting addition to the new library is the Starbucks inside. Now, I know we could use a bit more variety than the ever franchised Starbucks, but HEY! dude, seriously… it is awesome. It is right inside the library so there are some areas that just smells like coffee and cookies and most students absolutely love Starbucks being here. The library also now offers on-​line articles etc etc which is so useful when you have to write a research paper. You dont even need to set foot in the library again! But they have made this new library so cool, you actually want to go there :)
The new bookstore. OMG… does anyone remember that rinky-​dink small bookstore west ga had? Well, go on ahead and forget about it! There is now a two story, 10X bigger, brighter, and better bookstore directly across the TLC. Although I found it odd that there seem to be more UWG merchandise than books, it is all good. This new bookstore actually made me feel proud. And right behind it is Einstein’s Bagel…
What else is kinda new? The new Gymnasium. This place is also pretty big. They typically host concerts and graduations in here. There are also classrooms for the Sports folks. :P. Nice, modern, and new. Once again, not the Old West GA from 2 or 3 years ago.
We also now have a nice football stadium. Although I still do not approve of this waste of my tuition fee … (when they could have used all of that money towards, lets say. building a new Clinic ???) it is still nice… but like I said … i dont like what they did with my money here…
All in all, UWG is a good school. Most of the main buildings are still pretty old to be honest with you. But the faculty is really good. We have a good English, Nursing, Teaching, and Business Department. Our Art, Psychology, and Philosophy department is also pretty good. The Computer Science, Political Science, and History department is also good. I have friends from all these majors and that’s why I make such claims.
You will encounter some really good professors here as well. Now, it is not like UGA or Emory but then again, so is your tuition. I suggest to get here and get out. It is very easy to get distracted with the partying since it is after all, a small town university. UWG used to have a notorious reputation of being a party school. However, I do believe that the whole partying has died down a bit for the past two years as well. Be careful with who you get yourself involve with in this school, but all in all, UWG is a good school that offers so much for the ones who are willing to take it. … and pls, dont be like the majority of kids here… it takes them forever to graduate! LOL. Like I said, GET IN AND GET OUT … IN 4 YEARS OK??? or something like less than 8 yrs.

Made a lot of good friends during the six years it took me to get my undergrad here. This school is a lot of fun, and there are some really good teachers around (especially in the Math department). If you’re looking to attend a small college, look no further. Go Braves! Umm, wait… I don’t think they’re the Braves anymore. Oh well, you know what I mean.
