Even though the people who work here are students, I love how professional they are! Every time I come in for an appointment I have a short waiting time, they always ask if I want water, and they check in with their instructor every step of the way.
The services are cheap and well within a college student’s price range. I love getting the Deep Conditioning treatment in addition to my haircuts, especially in winter so my hair doesn’t get dry. I’ve literally never had a bad experience here and I’ve been a customer for two years.

While they are students and the result might not be completely perfect, I looked up the price of a regular salon for a balayage, and it was about twice what I paid. Dakota was my stylist, and she was nice and I like the result of my hair. My hair is dark brown and very long, so it took a lot of lightener to get it to the color I requested. I liked that they guided you through the prices and options to make it cheaper. The instructor would pop by every few minutes to make sure it was going smoothly, which I appreciated.
My friend is a hair stylist and she said for a phase one or two, Dakota did a great job. My one thing is that some of the top pieces were copper toned do I had to get done purple shampoo to tone it down into a dirty blonde color. Still working on that, but I think overall I’m happy with the result.
Tip: If you’re coloring your hair lighter, it’s more expensive if your hair is longer, so consider doing a balayage.

If I could give it no stars i would. There was no teacher supervision. The music was loud and obnoxious and a lot of goofing around. My hair turned out horrible and my haircut very crooked. I had to go to another salon to fix it. Do not go there.

I wish I could write two separate reviews because I have two separate opinions.
First– hair. Never, ever, ever again. It could not have been worse.
Second, facial and waxing. Complete opposite. Always. Very good. Extraordinary!

Walking on a Thursday evening to make appointment and they actually were able to service me on the spot! I had Nina, very professional explain everything before during and after! Great experience!
The only thing I would say was a bit late by the time I left! 9:15 pm! Took more then two hours for basic color trim and blow dry

I’ve had some great stylists here in the past! And yes… I have ethnic hair, so not everybody and their grandma can touch it. But generally I think the students here are very equipped to do a quick shampoo/​blow dry/​flat iron situation. And truly you cannot beat the price of these places! I will say I found a senior here I loved once and took a chance to get highlights… he did a great job! And it was a white boy at that! I’m not sayin… but I’m just sayin. The folks at the front counter are very friendly and helpful. It’s tucked away in a shopping center with plenty of parking. If you’re on the fence I’d say give it a try! You just may find someone that you like here.

I had the BEST experience. First of all, Monique is awesome. She is leaving in a few weeks so if you want a Black stylist, try Christy. My hairstyle was a wash and blow dry and style. I have natural hair, no relaxer or chemicals. For the price (it was only $ 15) I am ecstatic about my overall experience. The salon was clean and bright. Staff was all friendly. I’m new to Dallas, so I’ve just found my new stylist and I couldn’t be happier! Photo attached so you can see her work :-)

I am a hairstylist and was looking for someone to do my hair in Dallas. Well I found Kallie and she did the most amazing highlights on me! And within a good amount of time. I highly recommend her for anyone looking. Her mentor Heather was so welcoming and informative to both Kallie and I which made it an amazing experience! Went for a wash and flat iron. Alot of places cannot successfully handle hair like mine, but they were excellent. Did have to wait about 20 mins even though I had an appointment. I got my hair cut here about 6 months ago and I plan to come back soon for a new look. I had Katie and she did a great job and was a pleasure to chat with. I had long hair that I wanted to chop off. After we decided on a length, she let me know I could donate my hair to Locks of Love. I was very excited! It does take longer than a professional salon because they are students and they want to make sure they are doing a good job on you. She got her supervisor to check and help her with one part and of course to make sure I was happy at the end. I left feeling lighter and happy my hair went to a good cause! Thanks Katie!

Forever my hair salon from now on. Yes, the students are.. . students. I went in for a special deep conditioning treatment and a cut. Left with the softest hair eve and a nice cut.
It did take long, I’ll admit. BUT, if you stay after close, they roll out the DJ and there’s a dance party! Good stuff.

One star only because I can’t give any less. This place royally screwed my hair. I was there for six hours and it went from the goal of the chocolate brown to orange. I am mortified. I know this is a school but shouldn’t the teachers be a little more involved?

I went for a full highlight.
First of all, I booked online through a form on their website. I never chose level or anything. I wasn’t sure if it was even going to go through. I did it for Thurs at 4:45pm. The day of, at noon I got a txt that said my appt was at 6pm. (Amazing I never even had to call!) I go at 6pm, they promptly take me back.
I had «Miss Betty» who was sweet. I do wish I would have brought in a photo of what I wanted though.
Miss Betty was amazing and very detailed which was incredibly important for a highlight. She took her time. She’s so talented. I’d HIGHLY recommend her! And she had a coworker friend who helped! She had brown hair and nose piercing. (She was great too!)
The instructors that walked around had these mean bitchy judging faces on though. I was confused what was wrong. They kept giving miss Betty dirty looks that confused me.
This review would be a 5 for «Miss Betty» but the instructors judging and attitude make it a 3. I MIGHT return (ONLY because of Miss Betty) but it was an odd hostile environment.

The world we live in has two currencies: money and time. Cosmetology schools are where you go when you have more of one to spend on your hair than the other — and this has worked well for me for the past 14 years on a teacher’s salary as I frequently grade papers or read while in the chair. That said, if you are super picky about your hair, cannot be flexible with your time, or have limited patience with students in the front end of their learning curve, save yourself the drive and stress. However, if you understand that hair grows back and that color can be fixed (for the most part), can sit in a chair comfortably for an hour (or two or more!), and enjoy adding to the experience of a student learning his or her future trade (of which most hours will be spent standing and with hands wet!!), then book your next appointment for day OR evening hours soon!

Phase 2 student is the way to go. She knocked out my up do in less than a hour. I brought pics for her to get an idea. She showed me a picture of one she was really wanting to try. I told her to run with it. She did an amazing job. And what a steal at $ 30. I normally pay $ 100 for up do at my normal salon.

I continued to patronize this place until late last year. I really was pleased with the price and the haircuts/​color. I absolutely lost patience with continued issues about scheduling. They have a complete lack of respect for people’s time. NOT WORTH THE PRICE
Here’s a rundown of the various problems:
— Would show up for a previously scheduled appointment to find it cancelled (I always scheduled when I finished with the prior appointment). They apparently had issues when a stylist graduated. I would end up either in a long queue as if I was a walk-​in or there was complete confusion as to who would cut/​color my hair
— Showed up for facial appointment to be told, «oops, sorry, we are overbooked/​people didn’t show» and we can’t get to you or we don’t know when we can get to you. You can wait all day here if you want”
— If I had a facial appointment followed by hair and the facial ran long, I would «lose» my hair appointment and go into the «we don’t know when we can get to you» queue
All in all, given a choice of using them or buying a Flowbee, I’ll take the Flowbee.

Let me preface this by saying that I have really easy haircutting needs and easy to manage hair, so i’ve never had a big whoopsie experience with the students here. I also have only ever had my hair cut with Phase 2 students, who are more advanced than Phase 1 students in their schooling. They offer services Tuesday-​Friday in the afternoons, and Saturday all day. Just make an appointment in advance, in as little advance notice as a couple hours.
A cut and style with a Phase 2 student is $ 17.00, but during the haircut, they WILL try to sell you on about half a dozen products. Just stay firm or you may end up buying all the products they’re trying to hawk. Every time I come here, I get a different student, because they move through the program on average 9 – 12 months. I can honestly say that everyone who has cut my hair has done a thorough and nice job, and doesn’t skimp on any of the procedures, like the head massage or paying attention to the little wispy details.
Unilocal has a check-​in deal right now: free haircut with any chemical procedure. So I took this opportunity to make a dramatic change: 12 inches cut and add PM shine in violet. The entire procedure took 3 hours, but that’s to be expected. Paul Mitchell partners with Locks of Love, so i was able to have them donate my hair. The PM shine is a veeery slight sheen on my already jetblack hair, so it only shows up violet under certain lighting. It is a subtle procedure, which is mostly supposed to condition your hair and give it an illustrious sheen. PM shine starts at $ 25.00 for 4 oz, and each additional ounce is $ 8. After they cut my long hair into a shoulder length bob, i needed about 6 oz of product for the coloring. Tiffany did a great job giving me an attractive short haircut for my large head… but it will take some getting used to after having lower-​back length hair for so long!
