Great food. Family setting, casual eatery. Simple menu, food of good quality, and CLEAN. I made 3 trips, small amounts each time to try varieties. Stuffed with no guilt.

We didn’t like it but some of that might be personal taste because it was pretty crowded a dour neighbor really likes it. I was surprise how luke warm the hot food was — almost health department level not hot enough. They got a 91 health score so it’s not like it’s a scummy place. For our family we will not come back because M&Js is much closer to our house but I’m glad we tried it.

For the price I’m not sure you can beat it. Food is very adequate and all tastes good. It is fresh and replenished. The selection is great and so is the variety. Not sure what the others were complaining about. The service is very good and my tea never was empty. I’d return without question.

We have no complaints about the food, it is delicious. But yesterday, Friday, which is our whole catfish takeout day, I got our catfish and veggies and stopped at the register to pay. They always weigh our food and charge by the pound, or fraction thereof. I got takeout for 3 people. The cashier told me that I would no longer be able to get more than 3 catfish at a time; I usually get 2 each for 3 people, plus veggies. That upset me very much. Later, I called the restaurant wanting to complain to the owner. After telling them that I had a complaint and wanted to talk to the owner; they hung up on me, and told me that the owner would give me a call. So far, no calls from the owner. We will be changing our Friday catfish day to another place.

3 stars is just right for the Green Tomato. It is just fine. Good variety of southern cooking. Today’s visit featured fried chicken, greens, sweet potatoes, squash casserole and outstanding fried okra. Everyone was kind from the owner who took our payment up front to the waitress who kept our table clean and our drinks fresh. The Green Tomato won’t change your life, but it will fill you up and leave you smiling– that’s good enough for me.

Id like to start by saying I love southern cooking and grew up with it. I know what it is supposed to be and this place lowered the bar completely. The food was mushy and canned. Their greens tasted like they came out of a can directly onto the line and sat there all day. The best thing about their buffet was their salad bar. The floors were littered with trash past the buffet. Seating was incredibly uncomfortable. The waitress started vacuuming in the middle of service which was rude and annoying. A broom would have been more discrete than an obnoxious vacuum. Over all my family and I will not be returning. Desert was soggy, fruit had started fermenting, and everything seemed overcooked or canned. Needs a lot of work before we will go back.

The few negative reviews I see here must be from really picky people that are hard to please even at the best establishments. Hey, it’s only $ 7.48. They take plastic now. The fried chicken is excellent. Regular Southern food, good salad bar. Don’t listen to the Negative Nellies. I eat here every time I pass through Carrollton.

The quality of food is absolutely dismal. Cheap cuts of meats, cheap canned vegetables, and over floured everything. Dreary atmosphere and they mostly have just one waitress at a time. Everything in their buffet line is cheaply made. You have to pay at the register before you eat, and it is mostly the owners that are working the register. They are quite forceful for you to buy a drink with your meal, and when I asked if they can give me cash back for tip, I was told I can only add it as part of my bill, and when I said that is fine, they automatically typed $ 5 and asked me if that is ok … UHM… the meal itself is only $ 7 so I was deeply offended that they were trying to make that decision for me BEFORE I have been waited on and for ONLY $ 7, I had to kindly decline since I realized I had cash for a tip. In the end I am glad that I did not agreed for a $ 5 tip(I was by myself by the way) since my server only came to my table twice. Anyway, I have gone to this joint several times before, but the more I have exposed myself to better food outside of Carrollton, the more I realized what a ton of crap they serve. I understand that this place is super cheap if you think about the price for their buffet, but I would much rather go somewhere else.

This place is horrible and disgusting. They only take cash, and you have to pay before you eat.(and the Korean lady at the front asks if you want to tip… Before you eat?) There is an ATM machine inside that charges you $ 2.00 to take out cash. The food is bleh. It is a buffet with southern type food such as fried chicken, okra, macaroni and etc. Oh yeah, and water isn’t complimentary.

I never been to this kind of buffet before where they only serve country foods like chicken fried steak, mash potatoes, corn bread, fried chicken, and fish. They also had fried rice too for some reason. For the most part the food was average. Nothing really stood out in flavor, but for an all you can eat dinner that’s $ 7.48(after tax) I’m not complaining. The service was good too. The one waitress they had worked hard to ensure all the tables were cleaned and drinkers were served. Most of the customers that go there are senior citizens. It must be because they have a lot of mushy food like cooked spinach and mash potatoes. I might one day come back here when I’m old, but for now I think I’ll try somewhere else new.

I have never been a fan of buffets before but I thought I would try it out due to reviews I saw on Unilocal. This buffet tastes great! I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. Every dish they had was great. Though I was probably the yougest character in there. I guess buffets attract old folks. It was great food for a reasonable price. Try it out!

I really enjoy the food & service here. The waitressed are quick to give you refills & the home cooked taste is wonderful! I love the fried green tomatoes, rolls, sweet potatoes, and there is always alot to choose from. It’s a great place if you want to eat buffet food & be in & out quick.

Green Tomato Buffet has been around Carrollton for years. Its small but sufficient buffet, cozy dining area and reasonable prices has developed a cult-like following, especially among older adults. Our family visited during a Sunday in March 2010 and found that there was plenty on the buffet that appealed to all our kids ages 6 to 15. However, seating for groups larger than four or five is limited and the setting really is intended for more intimate gatherings. You’ll find a much larger buffet at Ryan’s or Hong Kong in Carrollton but the prices tend to be a bit higher per person especially if you include drinks. If you like buffets, intimate settings and new places you’ll be OK at Green Tomato Buffet.
