I really want to give Dead Wax more stars, but I just can’t. I’ve been here several times since they moved to this location. The first trip there was great. They had tons of stock and I easily could’ve spent hundreds of dollars on vinyl. It seems these days that they are operating in fire sale mode. Each time I go the stock seems limited, picked over, and less organized than the time before. They’ve added magazines and books to the mix which is just eating up space in the metal section that is already in dire need of Electric Wizard, Watain, Baroness, Pelican, and Mastodon to name just a few things I looked for that they didn’t have. Other than the selection missing a lot, the space is tiny and hard to navigate. The previous store was small too, but had a better layout. In addition, it appears there is a sewage problem under the building which is very apparent in the smell of the place. It can be pretty cloying. All that being said, it’s unlikely I will head back there any time soon. Also… WARNING!: if you or someone you are with is allergic to cats, avoid Dead Wax at all costs. The place has one or two shop cats and in such a small space, you will get the itchy eyes, scratchy throat, and hives. There is s fine layer of cat hair on the t-shirts as well.

Really tiny place with a really awesome selection if you’re into«obscure» music. Plenty of mainstream stuff, too, but the massive amount of LPs from lesser known artists is the main drawing point. Good prices, and an extra discount if you pay with cash. Plus, there are two cats just waltzin’ around the place, which is a huge bonus.

Mostly new albums so not much digging for deals. Smaller record store. They’ll give you a 10% discount if you pay cash.

Interesting store I guess. I’m giving them one star because of their crazy hours. Seems to me a record store should not close at 5 o’clock when everyone is finally able to get there. I got there about 4:45 and they nearly pushed me out of the store right at 5 o’clock. Ugh. By the way the hours listed on Unilocal are WAY wrong. How about staggered hours to be open at least a couple of nights? Also just noticed a «not recommended» review that basically said the same thing and that they have been closed multiple times when they advertise that they were supposed to be open. I’m not sure why that one doesn’t make it into the star rating or on the main page but it should. I wished I would have seen it.

Its a cool little(Real Little) shop with a great selection of New and obscure records I guess I am out of touch, I had no idea who most of the artists were that this shop carries… lots of Punk, Psych, Indie, Metal… Lots of Imports? I like Good Used Classic Rock… Dead Wax is super cool, probably too cool for me

Dead Wax was the last of the major DFW record stores that I visited this year. It was also the only one I hadn’t been to. It really isn’t close to me at all, but when visiting Josey Records recently, my bf and I decided to make a second trip out there to check it out. I remember thinking as soon as I walked in, «This place is TINY!» There is not a whole lot of room to move, but this belies their fairly nice selection. Unlike Josey, this is not a place a crate-digger would enjoy. Dead Wax seems to specialize more in new pressings, as opposed to used records. However, for the vinyl fan looking for the best sound possible, it is a little piece of paradise. As a huge fan of the jazz label Blue Note, I was happy to see that they have a rather strong selection of their recent 75th Anniversary re-issues. They have a 10% cash discount, so keep that in mind! I recently went in during a sale, where all new and used LPs were 20% off, and if you brought cash, they’d add the 10% discount on top of that. Um, YES.

5 stars! Best store that DFW has to offer. Excellent selection and prices, even though it’s a bit cramped, but a great experience. SKIP the overpriced places charging for paying for their oversize temples of boredom, just come here instead!

If you’re a vinyl fan, don’t let the small size dissuade you from checking this place out. The place is fully stocked with new vinyl, from metal to psych to indie. The prices are good and reasonable, plus they have sales every once in a while. The atmosphere is like a standard record store, as in, people with strong opinions about music will be heard. Yet you’re not going to yelled out of the place if you express love for acts that music nerds find repelling.
