Rock Creek Apartments

For an apartment complex, Rock Creek is pretty great overall. Nice and attentive management, good amenities, great neighbors, nice scenery and location etc. We’ve had to call maintenance a few times to fix things and every time they were speedy about it and took care of it asap with a friendly attitude. In fact, the maintenance crew and management are all super friendly and caring, asking us how our cat, Mushroom, is doing, etc.
My only complaints:
1) SUPER high heating bill. We are on the first floor so I imagine third floor folks have high air conditioning bills instead. When I say SUPER high, I mean ridiculously high! Between $ 200 – 250 for a few months while our heat was kept between 60 and 65 degrees. The apt has almost no insulation and we have to open our cabinets sometimes so the pipes don’t freeze.
2) Loud and far too often landscape upkeep. Over the summer, these landscaping guys walk around with noisy leaf blowers and lawn mowers to keep the property looking nice. Which I wouldn’t have a problem with if they didn’t do it soo often. There are times when I have a window open and all of a sudden this guy comes around the corner on a lawn mower scaring me half to death and filling my house with dust and grass particles! Or I’ll be sitting on the porch relaxing and I have to get up and move inside because these incredibly loud leaf blowers are inching closer and closer. It’s just obnoxious and I don’t think its worth it to keep the grass at exactly some arbitrary length when I can’t actually sit outside and enjoy it.
Overall good for an apartment complex but I would first factor in the cost of electricity before comparing costs of apartments!

After over a decade of playing the rental game all over the country, I swore I would never live in an apartment again. Why would I deal with loud neighbors, ugly parking lots, and no privacy when after all my experiences I now know how to find a great house for a great deal?
Well… vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, and two months of free rent, that’s why. Don’t get me wrong, this apartment complex is still an apartment complex. That means car alarms going off, dumpster fires, weird neighbors, housing managers that won’t deal with a copperhead living right outside your front door, and of course loud music from time to time. BUT if you harass the building manager enough, he’ll come decapitate the copperhead with a old dull ninja sword you have lying around the house. Yes, this really happened.
