AT&T

I am in the process of changing providers because AT&T has no understanding of good customer service. My land line business phone bill has increased from $608.24 in August of 2021 to $860.09 one year later. That's an increase of $251.85 per month in 12 months (over $3,000 per year). They won't work with me to bring down the cost because I won't add cell phones to my land line account. I will never EVER use AT&T again and I hope they go out of business..... very poor customer service.

I am a bookkeeper that has multiple clients that do not have any choice but to use AT & T, including me personally. At first, their customer service was good, until about 4 – 5 years ago, when it has just become appalling. This company charges people unnecessarily for turning service back on and when you speak to a representative, they will take hours to get your problem resolved and if they say you won’t be charged for something, then you better look at your bill, because they will charge you regardless of what they say at your site. I have had this occur with 4 different businesses that I have done books for and their personnel knowledge is horrible. I believe that A T & T is gauging their clients and they are dishonest about your monthly charges when you start up with them. Often, the customer does not have a choice for internet providers on a dsl scale. Something needs to be done about their business practices, now.

First of all, I’m not calling that number. Second WHO IS THIS? Some guy sitting on a cooler?

When our mother had to move into a senior living community we hoped that she would be able to remain independent. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that she needed more care, so she was moved into the memory care wing (dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc.). The pain of that move will never leave me. Still, we hoped we would be able to stay in contact with her by getting an AT&T wireless home phone for her new room. Simply put, the phone never worked. I spent long hours in her room on the line with AT&T, but the best we could get the phone to do was to make calls, not receive them. First, there was the difficulty of getting Comcast to allow her long-​time home number to be ported over to AT&T, which AT&T claims happened, although I never was able to call that number. AT&T claims to have continued to send bills to the senior living center (ATRIA), but Atria returned the bills as if our mother had moved out! All she had done was move fifty yards, from one side of the facility to the other. So we never saw any bills. AT&T had an e-​mail address on file, but the person on the other end of the line misspelled the e-​mail address by one letter, so we were never communicated with via e-​mail either. And since we were setting up our mother’s account separately from our own long-​time AT&T accounts, we were not contacted via our own phones either. In the end we had a useless device and an account balance owed of $ 261, all due to human error, none of it ours. But AT&T wants their money, and despite the HOURS spent explaining this unfortunate situation to a number of managers, the only way our mother was going to hear her children’s voices was for the bill to be paid. She can’t remember numbers any more, so even a phone that can only make calls is of no use to her. Bottom line? The people at AT&T to whom you complain are being paid to listen to you rant. In the meanwhile, you ARE NOT being paid while you spend hours on the phone with them. It’s a game of attrition, and the all the odds are in their favor. Have a parent with Alzheimer’s? They won’t care. But you do, so you’ll pay. Just like we did.

Worst customer service ever. I called them on 3 separate occasions to discuss my bill. Told three different stories and told 3 times that a «supervisor» would call me back. Never happened of course. 4^th time was a charm… not so! The person I spoke with started yelling, telling me I had to bundle my services or pay more money per month. He then hung up. Lo & behold my bill went up. I called again yesterday and after explaining that I can’t get service to the area I live in, so therefore can’t bundle my services I was told that my bill went up because I was receiving a promo rate! Then, I was placed on eternal hold. Literally, I was working on my property with the phone on speaker and it stayed that way for 2hours! heh heh heh Really not funny but one needs not wonder why they stopped saying, «how can I provide you with excellent service?» Been with AT&T for a long time, but I am done. As soon as I can I am changing providers.

Just a note, especially for those many of you with At & T U-​Verse:
You are no longer able to «go into the store» (Stratford Mall location, or any «store location» for that matter) to speak to a representative or manager to address your bill concerns. They (and all locations) stopped doing this because I imagine 80% of people coming into the stores were mostly going in to complain about their service and/​or the «constant price increases» and looking for resolve. I imagine AT & T corporate took notice of this, and then put a cold-​turkey stop to it. After all, they want their employees trying to SELL products, not dealing with complaints and people coming in every few months to ask for an explanation why their bill suddenly jumped $ 20 and then another $ 12, and then another $ 14, and thus want their bills LOWERED.
Now, we all are resolved to trying our fate at contacting customer service via phone, and we all know what joy that usually brings us. AT&T u-​verse customers will know what I am talking about, unless you are totally oblivious to your monthly bills and strange/​sudden jumps-​in-​costs of things.

This is a brand new store that opened about a month ago in the former Verizon wireless location. Since I am a AT&T customer I thought it would be interesting to check out their new store. And what a big disappointment it was too. The store is huge and when you go inside there is almost nothing in there. Except for of course their obnoxious sales force.
As I entered the store before my eyes could even adjust to the inside lighting I was greeted by as sales person. I didn’t want any help. I was there to check out the new store and I told her this. But unfortunately that was not good enough for her and she decided to stalk me throughout the shopping. I asked her for a phone case for my wife’s phone. She didn’t know if they had one so she took me to the manager. He was sitting at a desk in the middle of the store. He was rude and obnoxious and told her they had nothing for this phone and when she asked where I could get one he flippantly said Best Buy. Anyhow, I found a case here anyway. And when I noticed my stalker in the corner of my eye I flagged her over. Showed her how my wifes phone fit perfectly in this case and asked why I was told they did not have any case that would fit? She had no clue and the manager was clueless and didn’t care about me or my needs.
I currently use AT&T wireless, UVerse internet, TV and home phone. So I am an existing customer who should have been treated better. The sales person did hold the door open for me as I left the store. It was almost like get out of here and don’t come back until you want to spend some big bucks.

This review is for the AT&T store on North Ave. I’ve been going to this location for several years now and the staff is always friendly and quick to provide fast service. I went in today to upgrade my plan, and to get a discount credited to my billing cycle which my employer offers in connection with ATT and I was in and out in ten minutes. Overall very happy with this location and the service I received.

AT&T Customer Rebates are Bogus and a Scam!
It has been 6 months since signing up with At&T for U-​verse internet service which was to include a $ 100 rebate. 6 months after sign up and 4 calls to their office and still no rebate ! They simply will not send it! They even went so far as to give me the age old «reward card is in the mail» story in May 2014. Well guess what? It never arrived! Am I surprised? NO! What’s with a large corporation like AT&T defrauding consumers with promises of rebates when we sign up for service then not following through on sending the rebates? To top it off, they are running this scam through the U.S. postal service, so it’s mail fraud.

Uverse sucks, the customer service is lengthy and never is accomplished the first time around so it must be done several times. It is expensive and a waste of time…

There needs to be 0 star button for this company! I signed up with them 2 months ago, and cancelled within 20 minutes because I found a better company. I got confirmation numbers and they said it was done. Two weeks later they sent me out equipment. I called to recancel gave them my last confirmation they gave me a new confirmation number and said it was cancelled and I returned the stuff. You would think that would be done, but not when you deal with AT&T. I get a bill saying I owe for the monthly service. I call, the lady says there’s an error she will correct it not to worry about it. Three weeks later I get another equipment shipment without any return address label so I have to call to find out where it needs to go. Then a week after that I get a past due notice on the bill that was supposed to be cancelled. I called and they tell me they will see if it can be adjusted and have a manager call me back. So after 2 months never having the service and keep getting equipment shipped to me and numerous phone calls to cancel it, I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy! They have been a nightmare! Long wait times, which I can imagine is because people have to keep calling several times to have anything taken care of!

I am joining the hundreds of other customers that are outraged by ATT lack of what used to be customer service. Without fail most employees do not know what they are doing, yet answer questions with false information. I have complained to the BBB twice. Oh they will call concerning your complaint (s), but of course, as usual, there is nothing they can do. One women called saying she was calling from the presidents office! She wanted to let me know he would be contacting me soon!!! oh please. At last a suit called and we discussed the problems. Good news! I have no contract! This means when I say good bye (which I am going to do) there will be no fee that is charged if you opt out early.
ATT is not trustworthy. The deceit is rampant, ask for the total monthly charges, what is quoted does NOT include EXTRA FEES. I pay $ 70.00 a month for one UTV and internet. Such a deal, my tv plan is at the lowest «family». If you enjoy cartoons, paid programming etc. you’ll love it. I’m out lana M

Do NOT Uverse!!! Not only is my internet connection SLOWER, but my home phone doesn’t want to work half the time. They also neglected to tell me that my billing date would change, & the 250 minute plan I signed up for, to SAVE money? They neglected to tell me that if anyone that’s not a Uverse customer calls me, I get charged for the INCOMING call too! This has been nothing but a constant headache, & has stressed me out so much! I bet I can’t cancel too! Oh, & they want my old modem, because they charged me for that too when I switched. GUESS WHAT? I DON’T have it! The installation guy told me they don’t have any use for it & to throw it away! And the sales rep didn’t inform me of it either! My 1^st bill was $ 194.71! For unlimited internet & 250 on my home phone! RIP OFF!!!

AT&T Uverse Internet is so bad that we quite happily switched to Time Warner after a miserable two months as their customer. More than two months after I dumped them, they have managed to waste yet more of my life by sending me a bill for a bogus «early termination fee.»
Here is how they were and continue to be awful, incompetent, and shady:
1) They screwed up scheduling installation in many ways, and installation was thus days late. We wasted hours on the phone (since hold took forever) to finally get them there and got contradictory information from different people about whether anyone was coming out. They also screwed up the password I gave them, instead putting in a generic 1234 initially, and pretty much screwed up every single thing from our initial conversation.
2) They charged us $ 200/​month each for the first two months, instead of the perhaps $ 80 and $ 25 it should’ve been. The over-​billing was due to: A) rebates not being implemented in a timely fashion for the rate (we were charged about $ 50 instead of about $ 25 and it was supposed to be); B) for a modem we had to buy that I was told initially would be free and later my husband was told would get a Visa for $ 100 to compensate us for within 30 days (that didn’t happen); and C) being sent a replacement modem since service was terrible (we immediately sent back the old modem and were not told there would be a $ 100 charge on the bill that would supposedly be refunded in a future bill after they had received it). They fixed the bills after I called and complained, but the calls wasted my time and both the calls and the over-​billing were exceedingly frustrating. They seemed exceedingly sketchy to bill in that manner, which could really screw people who don’t have an extra $ 200+ to loan AT&T. Who knows if they would really have fixed it had I not complained and made it clear I’d take it to the authorities, too.
3) You often have to wait on hold for 20 – 30 minutes before getting to a human being and their call center hours are not convenient for the West Coast, since they close pretty early. I also have a lousy AT&T cell phone, which sometimes drops calls in my home despite the area being considered the best service area. So, calls to AT&T dropped (though perhaps they were on UVerse’s end). Either way AT&T caused calls to AT&T to drop. So, being on hold with AT&T was costing me my AT&T minutes and the calls were getting dropped, forcing me to waste yet more minutes/​pay for overages, not to mention wasting my time.
4) Their service sucked. Web pages would not load about ¼ of the time and our Netflix streaming would say «retrieving» and seize up about half a dozen times, sometimes more, in a 45 to 50 minute show. We had AT&T via the phone line and have Time Warner through the cable line. Perhaps that’s the difference? We have none of the problems now with Time Warner. (The Time Warner connection isn’t perfect, but it’s way, way better.)
5) Shortly after we canceled, we were sent a check for what we apparently were owed shortly after. Yesterday, after more than 10 weeks after canceling and at least a month after they sent us the check showing they owed us money, they send us a bill for $ 150 for «early termination.» The billing period was 4÷16−5÷15, more than a month after cancellation. They also tried to somehow «adjust» the check they’d sent (I’m not sure how). Yet, we didn’t have a contract that we terminated early. So, I am having to waste more of my life on the phone with them. I tried calling last night, but of course they were impossible to reach because their call center closes at 7pm. Now, I’m on hold with them, having already wasted another 45 minutes of my life. I explained I never agreed to use their service for any specific duration or to a termination fee if I chose not to, but the call center staffer claimed they can bill me anyway because they gave me the lower rate for a year for being an AT&T customer! They maintain they can just make up whatever terms and fee they want without anyone actually agreeing to them! Of course, I terminated because they failed to perform their part of the deal well by having such lousy service. Now I’m on hold waiting for a manager, and making the most of the time by spreading the word about what a nightmare of a company they are.
The only thing that was not bad with AT&T was the tech, who was professional, nice, and did his job fine as far as I know.
Also, apparently they’ve also taken the liberty of spying on their customers. See Wired’s «Whistle-​Blower Outs NSA Spy Room,» which begins, «AT&T provided National Security Agency eavesdroppers with full access to its customers’ phone calls, and shunted its customers’ internet traffic to data-​mining equipment installed in a secret room in its San Francisco switching center.»
So, if you want to get overbilled for crappy service that includes spying on you (or at least did as of a few years ago), sign up now! Otherwise, run for the hills.

My advice to all is avoid AT&T services at all costs… They are great until you have a problem, but once you have a problem it’s all over from there. Either pay up for their mistakes or face time off work spent with countless frustrating and fruitless hours on the phone, ridiculous transfers, incompetent reps, and no resolutions. If I could give this PO box a 0 I would…

TERRIBLE SERVICE! If you have a choice to take your business somewhere else, then do it! I’ve had a long-​winded process just trying to transfer my account over to someone else! Took a good four months! Not to mention, they continuosly billed me. I tried calling in when these bills seemed like they were just never going to stop, and got transferred at least 3 or more times, being put on hold every single time. I told them they should pro-​rate my account back to when the new account holder was established, but they refused and said that there is no record of us calling in to disconnect. WHY WOULD WE TRANSFER THE ACCOUNT OVER TO SOMEONE NEW, and THE OLD ACCOUNT HOLDER (me) STILL WANT TO PAY FOR THE OLD LINE?! Then they had nerve to tell me that there was no phone records that either me or the new account holder called in! We called soo many times, though! This company sure got me aggravated! They are fraudulent, money hungry, and do not know how to service their clients! I was clearly unhappy even after speaking to the manager. I asked her if I could talk to her manager, and she said she was all I could talk to, which is more BS. Rude, unfriendly! I will never think of AT&T as thinking of their customers first! Accusing me of basically lying, and saying I never called in! How do they think we initiated any changes in the first place!?! We obviously did not walk into Carol Stream, IL to request that! PLEASE take your business elsewhere!!! They will scam you of your money!

I am in the same situation. ATT kep charging me twice for the same period after my cancellation. A big rip off! As soon as I terminated my contract, they denied my access to my online account, making hard for me to pay my last bill. I called to complain and told the represantative «How can we pay if you deny my online access? I my invoices are online», the represantative responded «well, if you don’t pay, we can always send you to collections». After that, I submitted a complain in writing and never heard back. I kept receiving letters that I had an outstanding balance, even after they had guaranteed that my last bill was already paid.

This complaint applies to home service in California, but the bills come from Carol Stream IL.
I changed my service provider from AT&T to Time Warner. AT&T was becoming too expensive.
AT&T continued to charge me for 2 months after the transfer of phone numbers.
Numerous phone calls to their Customer Service Center were either put on indefinite hold or the representative was not informed. I was placed on hold for a Supervisor, who then did not return my call.
After numerous fraudulent bills, I made a final call to you them, and received the same answer as I have received 4 times before «your bill is being credited». I asked to speak to a supervisor. She was busy and I left a message. She did not return my call.
I have contacted the FCC, which itself is an effete, useless Federal Government organization. No reply.
The only way to avoid collection actions and a mark on your credit report is to pay up, or take them to court.
I paid up. Is there no way that we can be protected from these corrupt inefficient giants?
America is surely in a bad way. Deceit and poor customer service are now the rule

I couldn’t select «zero» stars. I’ve paid in full for 3 months and have received intermittent (if any) internet service at my business. Customer service is awful, be ready to spend HOURS on the phone or online, being transferred many many times (double digits!) and usually resulting in nothing getting resolved. Sometimes you’ll be on hold for so long that the system will tell you the phone call is over and to please call again!
I will be CHARGED an early termination fee of $ 99.00 (even though I kept my end of the contract and they didn’t) and will not get my money back for services not rendered for 3 WHOLE MONTHS!
I do not recommend this company to any business, especially small businesses.

«PHONE BILL CRAMMING»
I am a victim of PHONE BILL CRAMMING, a third party billing scam that ATT&T profits from. I saw the NBC morning show talking about it on July 13^th 2011. AT&T home service took me for $ 250.97. check your bill and demand a refund.
