Nemuri Kuma Jujitsu has been the premier Danzan Ryu Jujitsu dojo in Northern Sacramento since 2002. Danzan Ryu Jujitsu is the most widely practiced form of traditional jujitsu in the United States. Beginning students learn balance, stance work, anatomy, leverage, escape, joint manipulation, and simple takedowns. Children and adults learn the art of tumbling, rolling, and the proper way in which to fall. Our lessons are safe and fun for the whole family. Contact us today to get started!

History

Established in 2002.

Nemuri Kuma Jujitsu was started with two young, eager to learn students, in a park on a piece of tarpaulin. As we grew in numbers, we moved indoors to a local recreation and park district then to a local YMCA and finally to our own studio.

Sensei Carter holds…

An advanced teaching certificate (1997) and a second degree black belt (Lakan Dalawa) (2001) in Modern Arnis, the art of Filipino Stick and Knife fighting.

A second degree black belt (Nidan) (2008) in Danzan-​ryu Jujitsu, the art of the Warrior Samurai.

With twenty-​two years experience in Modern Arnis and twenty in Jujitsu, he has taught both disciplines for several years to adults and children alike.

Sensei Carter further holds a Bachelors of Science in the discipline of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behaviour from The University of California at Davis.

My 14-​year-​old son has been a student of Sensei Carter’s for nearly 7 years, and we continue to be extremely pleased with the instruction and quality of this program.
Values such as respect for self and others, perseverance, self-​confidence, trustworthiness, and conscientiousness are all emphasized by this sensei as he masterfully teaches the techniques of jujitsu to his students.

I agree that Sensei Carter is terrific with kids and helps them succeed with a combination of hunor and discipline. My 13 year old son has fun, learns a lot and gets great exercise. I think the price is reasonable as well.

Tonight was my first night at this dojo. I was a bit nervous as my martial arts background differs slightly from this style. Sensei Carter and Sensei Pete made it an easy transition and were very patient in dealing with me. They were both very friendly and made learning from them enjoyable. My kids have been attending classes at Nemuri Kuma for 5+ years. We couldn’t be more delighted with the instruction and sense of community that we have found there. Sensei Larry teaches with a combination of discipline and humor that helps each child reach their highest potential within the art. Jujitsu is a wonderful martial art for learning to work with a partner and developing discipline and confidence. It is accessible to people of different shapes and sizes because it depends more on disrupting balance than strength. It is especially great for girls!
At Nemuri Kuma, the monthly rate is VERY reasonable (especially compared to some places in town) and there are no hidden (belt testing) fees or long-​term contracts. The monthly fee allows kids to come to class as often as they want Monday — Thurs. This allows flexibilty to work around busy school/​family schedules.
I whole-​heartedly reccomend Nemuri Kuma Jujitsu!

Sensei Carter is awesome with the kids programs and really instills the principles of jujitsu into his students. He also orients his programs towards learning discipline, excellence and honor. Check them out, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. :)
