The Treadmill

The Treadmill is an awesome running store & the staff are exceptional! The Treadmill always stocks the latest in running gear and is known as the best running store on the Peninsula.
The staff are very knowledgeable and provide recommendations based on your individual needs. The Merino running sweaters I have purchased from The Treadmill are exceptional and look as good as the first day I purchased them many years ago. My husband also loves the Boco running shoes he recently purchased from their store.
There is a fun run and hike organized by The Treadmill each Saturday which is a great way to meet other people if you are new to the area or in need of motivation to get back into running.
I highly recommend The Treadmill for all of your hiking and running needs!

I wish more places carried great wool clothing options for activity like this cool store.

The owner Chris, is a truly fantastic person who is in this business to help others in their outdoor pursuits. He offers an absolutely professional gait analysis, that is guaranteed to be the best hour you ever spend on running if you’ve ever experienced any sort of injury or problems. This place and its staff are knowledgeable and passionate, highly recommended.

I love coming to the treadmill for expert shoe advice from real runners. They are super active in their community by hosting group runs and group rides on the weekends and they even have a Tri Club! Often times they have a shoe company providing demo shoes at their group runs so you can really test a shoe before buying it!

In the 3 years under Chris and Janice’s proprietorship the Treadmill has already become a Carmel institution. It has something for everybody. For athletes there’s running and swim gear, exercise and hiking equipment, an abundance of the latest shoes and just about anything available on Amazon. For the not yet athlete, there are the most stylish, colorful clothing, comfortable shoes, and do jiggers. When not working out on the trails with his customers and team mates, Chris is always at the store figuring our what’s the best products for you and me. And his staff rates 5 stars too. They’re all succeeding in keeping me healthy and youthful. Bill, an octogenarian.

I have been coming here for years to pick up gu, honeystinger cookies, and gear. I also have LOVED their free community events, group runs, classes, workshops, etc. Recently, I wanted to try on a different sort of running shoe than I usually get. Michael, the genius that he is, taught me that I needed to buy my shoes in narrow sizes and I’ve been buying them in the wrong size! This will definitely change things for me for the better and help reduce my chances of injury in the future now that I will buy shoes in the right size!
Chris and Janice and all the staff there are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do and this community. I can’t imagine a better energy and vibe for a running store! Do yourself a favor and go, and attend all their events, too!

This place has a great selection of apparel. Oiselle, Prana, Patagonia, The North Face. I loved the brands! These are pricier brands and even the sale/​clearance stuff was kind of pricey, but I think that’s how it is in Carmel. The shoe selection was not huge, but decent. Also a good selection of running/​hiking accessories.
The lady who helped us was super-​cool and helpful. I liked her a lot.
We were so happy to find an awesome running store on our mini-​vacation.

Big thumbs up to Chris, who analyzed my gait with his iPad and made expert recommendations for my new pair of running shoes. The local running club highly recommended this place, and I’m glad I went there!

I had no idea what type of running shoes was for me, since I am a novice runner… until I came into this store. The staff was very patient with me and helped me try on different styles and brands of shoes until I was comfortable with one. Since then I keep coming back but not only for shoes but for other apparel. This is definitely a great local running store!

There was a pair of Mizuno WaveRiders I wanted to try on. 3 customers were being helped by exactly 3 employees; I waited as long as I could, but had to leave. I was disappointed I didn’t get to try them on as Mizuno’s can be hard to find.

I visited the Treadmill store for the first time last week on my birthday! I did not know what to expect. I had in mind to try out something new for running shoes. I searched online and found that the store offered the Newton running shoes. I came to the store and Kimberley did such a wonderful work explaining the shoes and getting the right fit for me. Unfortunately they did not have the size of shoe that I fell in love with but Kimberley did such a great job by ordering them for me and 6 days later she calls and leaves a VM saying that the shoes arrived and would like me to come and see them. I went yesterday (Saturday) hoping to talk to her because she did such a great job on my first visit. She was busy with other customers. I came to the desk and asked for the shoes. The store was somewhat busy, so the man at the desk said I could try them outside which I did not see inconvenient to do so. I fell in love with the fit of the Newton Motion III! I bought them!
I have to say that I was disappointed with the service of the man at the cash register. I had just purchased shoes for $ 174.99 plus taxes! When he completed my transaction he moved on to the next customer making me feel a bit uncomfortable. He did not even put my new bought shoes in a bag!!! Is like he did not care. I had to ask him for a bag for my new purchased shoes!!! Like really? How disappointing!
Overall my experience at the first visit to the store was awesome! But my last visit not so good, poor customer service at the last visit! Cannot believe it!

Staff is super helpful. I couldn’t remember which shoe I’d bought the time before and The Treadmill staff quickly looked it up on the computer. Staff pulled out that shoe but also offered a wide variety of alternatives. After trying them all out, I actually ended up buying a cheaper shoe that fit better. Also, great military discount. Nice to see this local business supporting the military! Thank you!

What do I love about The Treadmill? Well, everything. Though I didn’t start running until this year, they were always my source for great workout clothes and walking shoes. Once I started running, there was no question what the best local resource would be. Rather than «selling» me on appropriate shoes, they looked at my gait and helped me select something that works for the way my body moves. They are always interested, informed and highly capable. With their vast selection of shoes, apparel, and gear they’re bound to have what you need AND want.

It really doesn’t get any better than The Treadmill! The staff is extremely knowledgeable about all forms of athletics! Chris and Michael have personally (and patiently!) helped guide me through the ins and outs of equipment, especially running shoes! As a first year triathlete, I’ve been back time and time again!
They take their time with each and every customer to ensure you leave with the right fitting gear for the type of sport you’ll be participating in. Yes, it’s true that you may be able to save some $ by visiting a chain sporting good store, but I guarantee you won’t find a more experienced team with the selection and quality this store has to offer.
The Treadmill continually shows their appreciation of your patronage and will make sure you feel like part of the family. I know I do!

I have just gotten back into running after a two year break. I made the mistake of pulling out my old running shoes to train for a half marathon. In the past month, I haven’t been able to run without pain in my right arch, ankle and shin. I walked into The Treadmill and was helped right away. The woman who helped me looked at my feet while I was standing and also watched me walk and run before explaining to me what kind of shoes I need for my foot shape and running style. I tried on 3 pairs, and one pair was clearly the right shoe for me. The saleswoman took me outside and watched me run in them to make sure they worked. She also taught me a more secure way to tie my shoes and showed me some proper running socks that are much better than the cheap cotton socks I usually wear.
Yesterday, I took my new sneakers out for a 4 mile run along Carmel beach and did not experience any pain or discomfort even though I ran on the road, sidewalk, and a dirt path. I didn’t even notice my shoes!
If you are a serious runner or are experiencing any pain or suffering from injuries, the Treadmill will offer expertise and individual attention you can’t get at a big discount store.

Both my wife and I have bought shoes from this store. Each time for walking shoes. The staff is excellent in helping us chose shoes which work for our needs and problems. I was hurting my feet walking and my shoes were cheap ones. By upgrading to better shoes that support my feet, I no longer have those problems. My wife walks about four miles a day in addition to personal walking in the early mornings. She was hurting her feet also. She has bought three pair of shoes from them in the last six months for various needs and is happier and has reduced the pain she was having.

I love a good running shop!!! Not only does this store have a decent selection of shoes (including Newtons!), they have an extensive collection of running clothing and post running clothing. Good service, too!

I didn’t realize how cold it was in Carmel and being on a vacation with mostly summer attire, I needed to find some pants to wear so that we could walk on the beach. I stopped in to The Treadmill to see if I could find some yoga pants. It was pretty early in the morning so I was the only customer in the store. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a guy who pointed me in the right direction for pants. As I was browsing, he also mentioned that they had some yoga pants on sale that might work and brought me a pair. The sale ones were either too long or too tight, so I ended up purchasing a regular priced pair of pants (in a petite size, no hemming necessary!).
My husband also went in to look at shoes, but didn’t see anything quickly that was on sale so he didn’t purchase anything. The staff was very friendly and helpful though, so I’d recommend if you’re in the area and are in need of some athletic gear.
