Established in 2013.

Carmel Visual Arts is located in Carmel, CA on the Monterey Peninsula which is known for its unique place in the history of both painting and fine art photography. Carmel Visual Arts continues to be a hotbed for hosting art and photography workshops, classes and world-​class exhibitions.

Meet the Business Owner

Rich and Carol O.

Business Owner

The regional history of the arts on the Monterey peninsula provided an extra incentive for Rich Brimer to relocate and partner with Carol Henry in starting this new creative center for the arts.

Rich’s turned his attention full-​time to fine art several years ago. With leadership skills formed in Ventura County art organizations that he participated in, combined with being a naturally patient painting instructor, Rich brings it all to Carmel Visual Arts in Carmel, California. He also serves at the Monterey County Chapter Chair of the California Art Club.

Carol Henry’s expertise in fine art photography brings over 30 years experience in visual imagery to CVA. Known for her cameraless photo techniques on Cibachrome paper she has been shown in 34 galleries and been featured in over 200 exhibits around the world. Her work is widely collected and included in many corporate collections, particularly health care facilities such as Stanford University Hospital

I just finished at photography workshop at Carmel Visual Arts studying the Palladium/​Platinum digital photographic process with Kerik Kouklis. This is a GREAT art gallery and workshop space for photographers, painters and associated arts. I would highly recommend both taking a workshop there and checking out the latest shows on exhibition. Rich Brimer and Carol Henry are the perfect hosts and owners of CVA.

Thank you Rich Brimer for providing an excellent venue by hosting Charles Muench at your Carmel Visual Arts studio Jan. 2015. The evening demo before the workshop was a perfect introduction for everyone to see Charles paint as well as meet fellow artists.
The following three days painting along Monterey Bay set the tone for how to paint those rocks/​water!
I look forward to attending more workshops in Carmel, Rich has scheduled some great talent in 2015.

Inspiring workshop with master artist Ruo Li at the Carmel Visual Arts Center! It was well-​organized and engagingly hosted by Rich Brimer. Definitely a worthwhile experience, which included the ambiance of the Center and the immediate environment.

The workshop I attended with guest artist Ruo Li was a rewarding experience. Owner/​partner Rich Brimer creates a warm creative atmosphere. I learned from Ruo as well as Rich and all the other students. It was a great way to work with a master without feeling overwhelmed. .
The studio itself is bare bones, so you need all your own supplies (easel, brushes, paints, mediums, etc.). The lighting is great and there is room to paint outside on the brick walkways and deck. Come early and indulge yourself with some of the best bake goods on the planet at the Lafayette bakery in the same Barnyard complex.

I feel fortunate that I live in Carmel and have access workshops by some of the premier artists in the country through Carmel Visual Arts. Rich and Carol have done an outstanding job attracting these artists plus they work hard to put on some great exhibits, demonstrations and ongoing classes. Carmel Visual Arts attracts students and instructors from all over to create a stimulating learning experience. I recently took the Patti Mollica workshop and enjoyed working with her plus the other students in the group. I’m looking forward to taking more workshops in the future.

I am impressed with their selection of master artist’s workshops. I have studied with Kirstine Reiner in San Francisco a few years ago. She has since relocated to New York City. What a great surprise that she will be giving a workshop at the Carmel Art Institute.
Her work is exceptional as are her teaching methods. I am looking forward to attending her Carmel Art Institute workshop this April. I highly recommend her to art students of all levels. The results of her lessons will be delightfully evident in your own work!
