Jan De Luz Linens

In the heart of Carmel-​by-​the sea, this store is unique and quaint. Their linens are beautiful and as french as they can get. Great tablecloths, napkins for home, but also a great place for a special, one of a kind gift. Bridgitte, the store’s owner is very pleasant and knowledgeable, let her help you when you are making your selection, you will not be disappointed. They also have a beautiful antique store in Carmel Valley that is worth checking out.
This is a must stop while in Carmel-​by-​the-​sea.

I am a long time customer here, but after a recent horrendous experience I will be taking my business to Petite Provence in Monterey and consulting the Better Business Bureau.
The store owner needs to get off her high horse and realize that in America we cater to the customer at all costs.

I’ve been shopping at this store for many years; at least fifteen, if not more. Whenever my mother-​in-​law babysat for our young children, while my husband and I were vacationing in the Village, we would purchase her a gift at this store. From kitchen towels, an apron, linen napkins etc and all personalized, I always left feeling satisfied that she would be happy with her gift. In fact, the last time I was there with my husband, we purchased our adult daughter a lovely robe and had it monogramed. On a recent weekend visit with my daughter, she and I stopped in to purchase another robe with a monogram for my mother-​in-​law, for her eightieth birthday. When I stopped in to pick up my purchase, the woman behind the counter briefly showed me the monogram itself and quickly wrapped and bagged it. When I got back to the hotel, I took out the robe and held it up for viewing for me and my daughter. We both noticed simultaneously that the monogram was on a slant and not square. Back we went to the store presuming that all would be rectified in due course. Unfortunately, our experience was a bad one. The first woman we showed it to (who was the woman who had helped us with the robe), agreed that it was on a slant and brought us to the woman who had actually applied the monogram. She agreed as well that it was not straight and explained that she had noticed that design in particular coming out on a slant and said it had been getting worse over time. Then she called over the owner of the store who also agreed that it wasn’t straight and in fact she proceeded to alter the design that had by then been pulled up on the screen, while we all watched, until the design was corrected and alined once again. It gets worse from here. As soon as the owner realized that we expected a new robe with a new monogram, her entire demeanor changed as she became argumentative. She told us that we should have noticed that the design itself was not straight before selecting it, even though we told her we never saw the design anywhere but on a page in a binder and she further tried to tell us that it even looked slanted on the page, which it certainly did not! She then began to argue that it wasn’t crooked after all, put on the robe herself and called her employees over again, asking them if they thought it was on a slant, to which they all three agreed with her that it wasn’t!!! At this point I was feeling like I was on «The Twilight Zone». It gets worse. A customer overheard and saw the slanted monogram on our robe. The owner, seeing the look on the customer’s face, immediately asked us to give her our address saying she would send out a new one. I was startled by her sudden change of tune, confirmed with her that she actually would send a new one and that it would be straight. Do you know that I just received the package today and she actually sent us the same exact robe that we returned which includes the slanted monogram! Needless to say, I will never purchase anything from this store again and I hope that no other long time customer gets treated so poorly.

A simple set of table linens were beautifully appointed with the exact monogram desired. This is high quality at a good price.
The staff is impeccable. The ambience, elegant. And Brigitte is always professional and on point.
A wonderful place to buy essentials or a standout piece as a gift or for the home.
The best linen store in town!

I tried to buy some jam but the lady at the counter looked at me and then went back to her paperwork, leaving me standing at the counter for about 10 minutes before I finally left. It’s a nice place but Petite Provence in Santa Cruz also has authentic French linens, table clothes and gifts imported from France for literally half the price. I’m talking about the same quality too, double woven cotton, jacquard, hand embroidered, etc. I was amazed at how marked up everything was, will not be returning.

I am a huge fan of their lavender bath tablets and heart shaped Jasmine soap. I’ve called the store in Carmel from my home in Malibu many times throughout the years and asked Brigette to send out gifts for my friends in different parts of the country and they are always thrilled. Anything from Jan de Luz makes an impressive showing and so many items are the perfect ‘thank-​you” or birthday gift. Their beautiful monogrammed bathrobes are of the finest quality: I have one, my husband has one and I sent one years ago as a gift to a friend from childhood and I am still hearing about it!
I recommend this store; it is truly one of a kind.

Wonderful service, fabulous linens, lovely scents. They went out of their way to monogram 2 towels for me to be able to pick up later that afternoon while we were still in town. Each time I’m in Carmel I stop in and pick up something – whether for a gift or for myself. I have never been disappointed in the quality or wish I hadn’t spent so much on a kitchen towel – next year I think there’s a set of dinner napkins that will be coming home with me!

LOVE LOVE LOVE… The store is beautiful and has beautiful linens. We bought many things the day we were there. We bought some unique napkin rings, linen tissue box covers and some linen bread basket liners. They have all the machines right there on site and can monogram anything you would like… with same day service… making perfect gifts! The staff was very helpful. Can’t wait to go back to this store when in the area. Wonderful quality… and so beautiful!

I’ve never had anything but the best service here. Brigitte is great and the linens great quality. They are very accommodating on the monogramming, whether text or logos.

Things are just so over priced because of its location and the people who think they are buying something «French». You can find many of the identical items elsewhere for much less — ie., boxwood topiaries — try Restoration Hardware… I used to frequent the store, have even spent extraordinary amounts of money on napkins, but they never seem to act like they recognize a face. Makes me stay away now.

This is a lovely store, with lovely things for the home. They will monogram linens and sleepware for you in no time at all.
The owner, Brigette, is especially helpful. I recently moved from Carmel to Charleston, but couldn’t stop thinking about a bed covering I had seen there months before. When I called back, she looked it up for me, found it from her sellers, even though they no longer had it in the store, and got back in touch with me. She was so helpful. Above and beyond service for their customers, who love them for it!
Anytime I am in town, or have friends heading to Carmel, I send them here for beautiful things!

Faux French…
Buy a machine, get linen from South America (say it’s French), have Mexicans run the machines, and call it French linens. Genius. We Americans really are suckers.
Beware of the fake antiques too.

The most wonderful slippers.

Lovely linens and a computerized monogramming machine make for a fabulous combination. Jan De Luz is my go-​to store for hostess gifts (who wouldn’t love a personalized grilling/​kitchen apron, dish towels, napkins, etc.) and new baby gifts (they have darling bibs and blankets and layette towels just waiting for baby dear’s name on them). Brigitte, the wife of owner Jan De Luz is frequently working in the store and she is a delight. Her cheery disposition enhances the whole shopping experience there.

Beautiful inventory, exquisite monogramming. I’ll spare the details, but whatever I was called in French, it sounded nice though if translated it would have been very impolite. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely store where I had planned on ordering holiday gifts. The monogrammed linen napkins are to die for.

Beautiful linens and gifts (for yourself!) or loved ones. Online ordering, too. I’m a fan of their ultra-​personalized dish towels.
Case in point: in person, we bought one huge kitchen towel with the monogram «Chez (Our Last Name)». This is a great towel and worth the price!
It’s a mix of linen and cotton, I believe. Woven in France. Super-​absorbent. And there are a variety of solids (white or taupe), and stripe designs. Also cute vegetables and other motifs embroidered, if you wish. And you can further personalize the towel with a message, as we did. Ordered in person, it’s ready in about 24 hours.
This store is stocked with other gorgeous linens, home and bath products, and fine toiletries. Worth a visit when in Carmel!
