Carmel Inn & Suites

Do not get the Suites. I paid $ 300 on a weeknight and was very disappointed. Okay, it is in downtown Carmel, but you could get much better value down the road in Monterrey. For $ 300 I was hoping for a «Wow» factor, but I felt the value over priced. The suites are furnished terribly. In the living area there is one sofa/​bed which was uncomfortable for my wife, son and I to watch TV. There is no TV in the bedroom. To watch TV from your bed, you had to look through the door and a difficult angle and only one person on the bed could see the TV. The continental breakfast had stale muffins, coffee and cereal. I have stayed at other places half the price where they at least have waffles you could make. And do not go through
; they will charge you $ 20 more than the hotel will. Never again will I go to this place because the value is not worth it. Come on Carmel Inn & Suites. For your rates you could offer your guests much better value.

Not bad — enough space in the room and a fairly modern bathroom.
But the staff is noisy. It’s impressive how oblivious they are that there are guests paying to sleep and rest, while they walk the corridors talking out loud (screaming, if you really needed that extra hour of sleep) between themselves.
The location is awesome.
Recommend the restaurant just across the street — YaFa — it’s amazing !!!

We were in Carmel and wanted to stay for the night (my family is known for these spontaneous decisions). After searching through and through on booking and
, this was the only one that said had rooms available and wasn’t a million dollars a night. On those websites the price was listed about $ 100 bucks higher than when I called directly. It was nice that the lady was able to get us a suite for the night to fit four of us. She was very accommodating and answered all my questions.
When we arrived we saw that they took AAA (which I should’ve asked sooner but forgot), when we were checking in, I asked if it would be possible to add the AAA discount and she said it wasn’t because she couldn’t change the booking. I don’t know how hotel admin works, but I’m sure it was possible she just didn’t want to go through the trouble.
The room was cute, kind of like staying at your grandma’s. Everything was flowery and antique. The room had a king bed, a sofa and trundle bed. Perfect. The room was clean for the most part and the bathroom recently remodeled, which is a big plus. However, the blankets had holes in them and were really rough. I also saw a couple of bugs flying around.
The hotel is a about a 10 minute walk from the beach and 5 from the shopping area. It is pretty convenient but am sure you could find something way better if you plan ahead.

Cute, old fashioned room, nice comfortable king bed, Dish TV, Wi-​Fi, nicely updated clean bathroom. Right downtown, great location, cont breakfast. A solid value.

Run, don’t walk, as fast as you can to get away from this place. We had booked the room for 5 days. As soon as we arrived, I wanted to leave, but knew we had to stay for 2 nights, minimum. I felt like we were in a closet, it was so small. I went to the front desk and told the guy we were only staying 2 days and that we would forfeit the $ 100.00.

when there were «2 rooms left». However when we arrived they told us they had overbooked and no room was available for us. This is the first time I’ve encountered overbooking among my many bookings on the website, so I don’t think this is a generally acceptable business practice.
To make matters worse, they offered to move us to a motel 15-​min drive away and kept saying how expensive that place is. But a simple Google search revealed that their «backup place» is routinely just ¹⁄₃ of the price. The receptionist also kept saying it was our fault, because they had tried to contact us and left messages. In reality the message was left with a heavy accent that repeated saying «we have you booked», so we never understood what the matter was.
We felt both sad and angry about the whole episode. Our family of 4 has spent weeks planning this vacation at downtown Carmel. We ended up canceling our vacation after no satisfactory arrangement could be made (it’s the Memorial Day weekend so no surprise) and returned home. Fortunately we only live 1.5-hour away.

WARNING! They overbooked their hotel and we were refused the room we booked! They charged our room in full and it was difficult to get our refund. We booked this room for our honeymoon and the man at the front desk treated us poorly and said there was nothing he could do. My new husband and I were kind and patient until the guy started to raise his voice and say it wasn’t his fault. He offered to put us up for the night in another hotel 5 miles away, but we just said «screw it, we wanted to honeymoon in Carmel, and that’s what we’re doing.» We walked next door to the best western and that hotel staff was amazing and accommodating. Stay at the beat western! Not carmel Inn and suites!

Don’t count on a real breakfast. Their «breakfast» includes 2 oranges, orange juice (from concentrate), an oatmeal chewy bar a nasty cinnamon horn (the kind you can get at a gas station). That’s it! They brought it 30 min late as well. If we had known we would have left early to stop and get real breakfast somewhere.

This place was a nice surprise — we stayed in room 28 and were very happy with value. Room was clean and surprisingly large (king with trundle bed that would fit two others if needed). Mattresses and pillows all good, bathroom updated and very nice. Cute (fake) fireplace great for ambiance and warming up. Frig, microwave and coffee maker too.
Continental breakfast in am is adequate (very basic but good to get you going until brunch!) Pool is very small but fun for kids and with beach so close do you really care?
Would definitely recommend and return. Only comment for owner — smell of Indian food cooking both when we arrived in pm and in the am is rather strong for visitors (not in rooms but outside). This would NOT deter me from a return visit — just a note for them.

The hotel needs to be remodeled desperately ! Even the pool is dirty and old. The mattress squeaks, the bedspreads etc are very old. The bathroom was remodeled but is honky! Never recommend this place. The guy in the office looked like he was asleep and couldn’t care if we were there. Just awful.

I was nervous about staying here with the 2 ½ stars but after I stayed I thought it deserves a 3 ½. It was clean although a few minor stains on carpet. The sheets and bed were clean. The tv signal was great and they even had a DVD player. The bathroom was really clean. I felt that it was good for the price. I wouldn’t mind staying here again.

We love this cute and quaint hotel. Its location is perfect and the rooms are always clean, and the owner very friendly. It does need some slight paint touch-​ups here & there but with that aside, that would not stop us from coming back. We have stayed here twice now and definitely plan to come back!

This place is okay, booked a night to stay after taking pre-​wedding photos, the décor inside the room is very nice, Victorian style-​like/​vintage feel (extra star). The photographers were excited about it and decided to shoot us in the room. The bed is pretty comfortable, but the room is really stuffy and the AC does not work. If you open the window, you can hear people talking and all kinds of animal noises and cars driving by because it is located right next to a street. No microwave or fridge, did not feel too clean but I did not inspect much to notice any bugs or what not as other people stated (thank goodness i did not see big bugs!). Would not stay here again.

Many words describe this place. «disgusting» is one of them.
Roaches «bugs» in the room! I went from checking in to checking out! Imagine opening the from door of your room and seeing a big roach «bug» on your bed? That’s exactly what happened!!! I ran out of there. And the stench that was in the room was unbearable! Can you also imagine that the man at the front desk didn’t want to give me my money back? There was a lady at the front desk that had deplorable manners as well. The man told me that I wouldn’t be able to find another room available in Carmel. I walked across the street and was able to get another room! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!

This place is HORRIBLE.
Bugs everywhere and a stinky smell throughout the hallways like stale food.
Manager is rude to the point of obnoxiousness.
Other reviewers had the same problems. I can’t believe this place is still in business the way they treat their customers.

It was fine, even a bit bigger than I expected however the way the rooms are set up or at least the beds is so the bed is back to back from room to room. Does this make sense? The walls are thin we could hear our neighbors conversation as they laid in bed during the morning hours… of course we were awake because we brought our 2 month old along to see how she handled a night away. At least in our room there were many other options of where to put the bed so not to be right on the other side of the wall of the neighbors bed, thank goodness they did nothing else but talk! Too bad for them that our baby cried until about 11pm, but then again they were smoking pot on the bench outside our rooms (bc it’s all outdoor), so they probably had an easier time going to bed.
Price was decent for Carmel, good location and clean

I think this place is great. The rooms have somewhat of a Victorian flare to it which I think is the nice. The bed even has draw back curtains. It might be considered a bit pricey but I got a deal on
. The room did have a small TV but that was no big deal.
They have a very nice and helpful staff will to help you find fine dining in the area as well as discounts. Only a few blocks from the beach and lots of nice shopping areas with plenty of nice restaurants.
All in all I think its a great place. Very cute. If you can I’d ask for an end room like room 31. You get a big window to look out of with an ocean view.

Was once a nice hotel but is falling behind in both appearance and service. Paint was peeling off the walls in places in the bathroom. The office smelled strongly of B.O. We were only given bath towels in our room – no hand towels or washcloths. The front desk personnel seemed irritated when asked for supplies for the room.
First floor rooming not a great option. Our room looked out on a cement wall that was three feet away and we were kept up till 4
people running back and forth across the floor upstairs.
The breakfast food was unappealing and meager at best. I would not stay here again.

Bad experience here. We called and asked if it’s possible to do early check in and the guy at the front desk told us that yes, but if we paid $ 10 to the cleaning staff. I have never heard that before and thought that was strange, but brushed it off. When we came in, he recognized my friend’s voice and pointed at her and told her that she owes him $ 10. WTF… We don’t owe you anything! We just asked if it’s possible to check in only. It’s up to you if you want to pay extra to your own housekeeping. Don’t you pay tip at the end of your stay anyways? When my other friend and I went upstairs to bring our stuff to our room, she gave him a piece of her mind.
The room itself was clean and huge. Had a mini fridge and microwave. I did have an issue with the comforter on the bed. There were a few stains. One of them looked like paint because it matched the color of the wall behind the bed. At least that I hope it was! I don’t carry equipment like the show from CSI to do any analysis. The bed itself was very comfortable and literally passed out on it when we came back from a wedding.
