DO NOT BUY THIS DEAL!!! He scammed me out of $ 200!!! I made this purchase for my husband as a Christmas gift in 2014. I emailed Carlos and left several messages to schedule my husband’s flight lesson in 2015, but he never responded. After a half a dozen attempts, I finally caught him on the phone and he said that he never replies to emails, ski must call him. That’s ridiculous!!! I paid for a lesson in full, in advance and he ignored my emails?! He promised to call me back to reschedule my husband’s lesson, but he never did. He ignored all of my voice messages and didn’t even reimburse me!!! Look elsewhere for flight lessons, because this is a scam!

Over a year later, and I’m still working with Carlos (and for good reason). He’s an excellent instructor. Very nice, very patient, always willing to help, and always bills extremely fairly.
I’ve been taking lessons/​flying for almost 10.5 (July of 2005) years now, and I can say without a moments hesitation, I wish I had been working with Carlos since day one.
If you are looking to start your flight training, or trying to find a new instructor, talk to Carlos. He is an absolutely incredible instructor and a great guy all-​around. Thank you, Carlos.
Still, HIGHLY RECOMMEND, flying with him!

Last week I had the opportunity to take lessons from Carlos, at skyline flight training in Carlsbad. I highly recommend anyone who wants to learn or take flying lessons to come see Carlos Flores, he’s a great instructor!

I bought the introductory flight lesson voucher and just took the flight. Similar to a previous review, I found that my instructor was nice and accommodating, but not engaging and seemed not terribly interested in teaching. According to the voucher, I was getting the 2 hour session: 30 min pre-​flight, 1 hour in the air and 30 min post flight debriefing. I was disappointed to find out that it was very rushed and I was done in less than 90 minutes. During pre-​flight he even took off to talk to his buddies for 10 min and left me standing by the aircraft. Once we were in the aircraft, he again appeared rushed and took off without too much explanation of procedures. Based on my experience with other flight schools, there are long list of things that should be done by the student but I didn’t get to do in this lesson, including engine start, taxi, take off. In flight, I did not even get to try using the rudder, trimming the aircraft, executing coordinated turns, change throttle settings, all basic and important skills. All I did was several lazy turns. I felt like a tourist instead of a student. The flight plan should be taking off from Palomar airport, heading south to Mission Bay and back. Instead, we turned back before even reach La Jolla. After landing I checked the engine timer and it showed that we only spent 36 minutes from engine start to stop. This was half of what’s promised. I didn’t get the promised DVD and log book either, but at this point I don’t care any more, because I don’t want to consider this underwhelming experience as my first flight lesson. I was hoping to find out if I wanted to commit and get a license, but now I think I need to try another school. If you are seriously considering flying, I recommend you choose another school for intro lessons. If you are interested in aerial tours, well, there are also better options, like a hot air balloon.

Horrible experience. Bought a flight lesson for my husband’s B-​day. Scheduled for Sunday. No one showed up! Waited for 20 min. Called 3 times, no answer. Ruined our day and spoiled the birthday.
Looks like a total scam…

Just took the introductory flight today. I really have no idea why there are glowing reports for Carlos on here. He was nice… but… severely lacking in real training ability. I was suppose to get the 2 hour session… ½ hour pre-​flight — 1 in the air and ½ hour wrap up… I was apparently done in 90 minutes… I came to find out if I wanted to pursue this … completely willing to spend the thousands needed to get a pilot’s license… but Carlos was so utterly unengaged… I was turned off … and I now know that I have to find another training facility. If this is (according the the few reviews here) top level training… I guess I’m in for a rude awakening… I know that training facilities down toward Miramar are rated much higher… I didn’t want to have to travel down there… but it looks like I will have to. I recommend staying away from this place… it was a waste of money.

I started my flight training back in May of 2011 with Carlos. Did my Private and Instrument with him, but I may as well have done everything. Because after him I learned nothing. Everything I know as a pilot came from my time with Carlos. You will never find an instructor as hard working as he is. He loves flying so much he’ll take any opportunity to do it and teach you how to do it.
I was lucky to have him as my instructor. He’s shaped me not only into the pilot I am today, but into the instructor I am today. As I teach, I remember how he did it. As I tell a student to pitch down for 90 knots on downwind and to remember the sight picture, I remember the times he’d cover my instruments, so I cover theirs. Whenever I shoot an ILS, I remember him repeating to me, «pitch for airspeed, power for descent». When the owners of flight schools say they like my airmanship, I think back to him, the flight instructor who shaped that airmanship more than anyone else.
Thanks to him I’m not afraid to take an airplane and a student anywhere I damn well please. Remembering how on no more than a moment’s notice he took me to KSAN when even he’d never been there, and with only a day’s warning in advance we went to LAX, I think of how extraordinarily lucky I was to have him instruct me. I remember how he pushed me harder every day, how he even felt comfortable endorsing me all the way to Santa Barbara as a cross-​country solo. Thanks to that experience he gave me I feel as comfortable going to an airport I’ve never been to as going to just MYF.
I’m often miss his presence at Montgomery. He was always there if I needed help or advice on being a pilot or an instructor. I owe him my flying career so far. It’s impossible to measure what he gave me as a mentor and a teacher.

I bought flight lessons for my boyfriend for our anniversay and it was a blast! I was able to watch him learn while Carlos instructed. Having Carlos as our instructor was a great experience. He was kind and a great teacher. I strongly suggest taking lessons!
