Senior Nest

Let me start with some nouns that characterize my experience with Senior Nest:
Honesty

I had been looking for a board-​and-​care facility for my mother. I found Daniela of Senior Nest. All of our interaction was over the telephone.
I engaged her services to find a board-​and-​care facility. One of Senior Nest’s services is to find such facilities for clients, trying to match the specific needs of the client with the location, budget and characteristics of the facility to best serve the senior.
From the outset her demeanor was one of professionalism, with an amiable tenor and tone. I could tell immediately that she was quite experienced. But the most important aspect of my experience was her patience and the way she listened to our story — what we needed, what were mom’s particular personality characteristics, etc. For example I said that my mom needed to be around people with whom she could converse during the day. Daniela took the time to really ask about my mom.
These services get paid by the board-​and-​care facility that the client (such as myself) eventually selects. So their business model is somewhat like that of a real estate agent.
Ultimately, I chose a facility one street away that my brother found. So Daniela did not make any money despite having spent her time for many, many conversations with me as well as doing some homework and emailing me several lists of potential facilities.
When I told her we had found another place, her response was «Oh, that’s wonderful if you think it’s good for your mom.» She continued «Just give me a call anytime with questions.»
Let me emphasize this last quote. Here is some important context. I had taken a lot of her time revealing my trepidations over the whole health care system, senior care, and the very questionable environments I saw when visiting about 15 board-​and-​care facilities.
Daniela told me «Well, I used to run two of these homes so I know all the State regulations and the law. If you have any questions or concerns or feel something is not going well, just give me a call and I’ll explain to you what you need to know or how to proceed.»
In fact, one weekend she said «Well, my family is going on a 4-​day camping trip, but I’ll have my cell phone with me. Just give me a call if you have any questions or issues.» Of course I would have to be pretty desperate to disturb her like that — and I didn’t have to thankfully. But the fact that she offered — and mean it – means a tremendous amount to me.
Let me reiterate. At this point we had selected a facility. Daniela was just offering this as kindness as she doesn’t make any money giving advice at no cost to people such as myself.
In fact I did have some arguments with the board-​and-​care owner and administrator as they did the classic «bait and switch» and I had some serious concerns about the quality of the care and environment my mom would receive. I was anxious; I was concerned; I was unhappy. I took Daniela up on her offer and spoke to her three or four times, probably totaling about three hours on the phone.
She very amiably, patiently and generously listened and gave me some very sound advise. Moreover, I could hear in her voice that she was genuinely concerned about my mom. She continues to talk to me despite the fact that I anticipated that I would probably not move mom immediately as I wanted to first try to resolve issues in order to cause less disruption and «trauma» to my mom. It’s not easy for seniors to move and get used to a new place. It’s bad enough that we have to put our loved ones in an unfamiliar home and remove them from an environment where they’re around loved ones.
I trust that your experience with Daniela and Senior Care will be as favorable and positive as mine has been. I wish Daniela and Senior Nest every success. Daniela is someone that I would want to meet as a friend.
