They really didn’t explain the insurance well at all (I recommended a friend and she felt the same, but we still don’t know if she’ll have to pay out of pocket). I was told initially my ucsd insurance covers all 4 extractions and when I asked if it’ll cover if I wanted 5, doc said it should cover. I never saw a bill until I got my dental bill in the mail today. I kind of see it coming. I do need to pay out of pocket about $ 200. While I’m willing to pay for the service (my case was not simple) and I think it was great, quality care, if I had known, I would have compared with other options.

I’m having very mixed feelings right now as I write this two days after my wisdom teeth were extracted with a chin and bottom row of teeth still numb. Dr. Kim is a very sweet man with a lot of caring staff, but I don’t feel that he takes enough time to get to know each patient. He’s a busy man, and I understand that, but every time he has worked on my teeth it feels rushed, and he never lets me know exactly what he’s doing. Two days ago I got my wisdom teeth extracted; right before the procedure the doctor looked at my x-​Ray and pointed to a wisdom tooth and said «that’s very close to your nerve» and ended it like that.
Two days later my chin and bottom row of teeth are still numb – I even have that prickly feeling you get when your leg falls asleep except on my chin, causing a lot of discomfort and inability to sleep. It’s looking like I am suffering from Paraesthesia – which could last from days to forever. I’m extremely upset that the doctor didn’t warn me about this, particularly after he had bothered to mention that the tooth was close to the nerve. I am going in to get my stitches removed in 5 days, and I hope that the paraesthesia is gone by then. If not… I don’t know…
I still have a crown to get with him, and now I’m afraid to let him work on my teeth at all.

I am writing to express my gratitude regarding Dr Kim and his Staff. Dr Kim is professional and kind; he genuinely listened to my concerns and provide an excellent job. Dr Kim and his Staff are truly courteous and respectful and they explain the process of the procedure and they made the whole Dental experience as relaxing and comfortable. The Office atmosphere is clean and inviting in terms of comfortable and easin. The Staff at the front desk are very attentive and genuine and kind. I am satisfied and pleased with the Dr Kim’s Professionalism and Dentistry and his entire Staff! by the way they have a excellent Office Manager! I will continue to go for my dental work and I will delightfully referred Dr Kim to my family and friends.

The best dentist I’ve ever been to! Went there for my wisdom teeth extraction and it went so smoothly. They were so friendly and professional, and definitely made me feel at ease during the entire process. Since the moment I walked in, the receptionist greeted me politely and explained the paperwork to me patiently. Afterwards, I got my X-​rays done and then was taken to one of the rooms to get my consultation. Decided to take all four wisdom teeth out then and there. They used numb shots for local anesthesia. I have trauma from numb shots in the past, so I was a bit nervous, but wow! Definitely the least painful experience with numb shots (of course it still hurt a bit, but I mean they’re needles going into your gum!). They needed the anesthesia to kick in before the extractions, but in the mean time, I got some teeth cleaning done. :-) The extractions itself took only 5 mins! 5 MINS! Haha that’s faster than a starbucks during order coming out. I didn’t feel a thing, though I did feel some pressure. I listened to my iPod the whole time, so I was surprised when shortly after he told me I was finished. Barely any swelling. GO HERE FOR YOUR WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTIONS! I’m four teeth less wiser, but I’ve never felt better about my oral hygiene. :-)

All staff are kind and sweet.
And there is good deal for cash patient. Doctor never hurt me.

Not sure how this place got so many great reviews (the reason I felt ok going there in the first place). They did the consultation for my 16 year old without me even being there (he went to get xrays, then went to the bathroom rather than come back out where I was filling out paperwork, then I found out after wondering what was taking so long that they already had him in a chair). They had told me they could do the surgery the same day, so he didn’t eat anything thinking they would put him to sleep for it, but nope… they just gave him shots in the mouth and went to town on his teeth! When I asked if they would put him to sleep they said «Oh no, he big boy, he be fine!». They did not explain anything of what was going to happen. My son said that one of them was not numb all the way and it hurt so bad and he tried to tell him but they just kept going. He was mad and miserable when it was all over and they actually tried to give him a prescription for Tylenol for the pain (I requested Vicodin after I saw the scrip for Tylenol)! I even had to ask for after care instructions… they were about to just take my $ and send us on our way.

I was referred here through a friend and realized the hype wasn’t for nothing. The appointment making process was very easy with the super sweet staff and UCSD SHIP took care of all the costs. I initially came in for wisdom teeth extraction but soon discovered I had a couple cavities that needed to be regulated stat. The X-​Rays & the extraction of my wisdom teeth happened all in one day. I went back a couple times to remove the stitches and rid my teeth of its cavities. Walked out of there, (my teeth) feelin’ like a million bucks. Dr. Kim and his staff are seriously the best. It’s always comforting going to a place that isn’t in it for the money but genuinely wants what’s best for you. I will most definitely be going here for all of my teeth needs.

i came here to get a checkup and I ended up having 3 cavities and having to get my wisdom teeth pulled out. Dr. Kim was able to do it on the day of! It was very convenient for me and the whole procedure didn’t take too long. I would recommend this place to any student, especially those with UCSD SHIP! Dr. Kim and the staff are very honest, nice people. They want the best for you and your teeth =)

I got my wisdom teeth pulled here because all of my apartment mates had gotten their teeth removed and recommended it to me. With UCSD SHIP it’s free, and he works so quickly and efficiently. I came back to remove the stitches, and they filled so many cavities for free (way more than my insurance should have covered.)
UPDATE:
I am learning as an adult, not to go cheap with dentists. This place was awesome when I was in college getting my wisdom teeth out (still recommend it for that) and maybe when my teeth were a little bit more resilient (And because really… wisdom teeth are wisdom teeth. They need to come out one way or the other)
Right when I graduated college, I ended up getting two crowns from them. I assumed that they would do a good job with it, and give me a good price (because I was no longer covered by my school). It was really nice of them to give me a better price, and they even let me pay in monthly payments. but, within a couple months of getting a crown, my tooth got infected. I had to pay more for them to do a root canal on a before-​healthy tooth –they put the crown more for aesthetic purposes. I paid $ 400 for the root canal, only for it to become infected again several months later.
When I went back to get it checked. I was maybe in the seat for 5 minutes, when he just let me go and just prescribed me antibiotics. I checked with another dentist, who told me that root canals aren’t supposed to get reinfected, and who after taking an X-​ray told me that the infection is very deep.
Because of this, in a couple months, I’m going to have to get an implant. The infection is much deeper than it was before… so on top of the thousands I’ve paid for the crowns/​root canals/​antibiotics, I’m going to have to get an implant soon.
Don’t get me wrong. I still like this dentist a lot. and I recommend it to college students or others just getting minor work done/​wisdom teeth extractions. but, I’m learning my lesson the hard way. Making sure to invest in good dental insurance and dentists– even if it’s a little bit more expensive.

I went to this dentist for my wisdom teeth. After looking at some reviews on Unilocal,I figured that this was the place to me. Making an appointment was somewhat difficult since they are only open Tuesdays and Fridays for the San Diego office.
When I arrived there, I was quickly serviced (even after being late due to traffic) and the xrays were very quick. They do not use film and their laptop is in the xray area so you can even see what your xrays look like.
After xrays, I was quickly moved to an available room where the Dr Kim quickly arrived and did my quick examination.
Today, I went in for my wisdom teeth and oh my what an experience. I thought it was going to be very very difficult, but the staff talked with me prior to the actual operation to help me relax. Once the actual procedure started, Dr Kim constantly talked to me to make sure I was doing okay. If I seemed like something was bothering me, he quickly stopped momentarily, checked up on me, and resumed. I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled out and the actual procedure itself was so short!
It’s been about 9 hours since the operation now and I feel very little pain without medication, no swelling, and I’m able to open my mouth fine.
Overall, this office is a great dentist practice, serviced by great people, and a great doctor. The staff is very friendly and Dr Kim is just amazing. This place is definitely a place to continue to visit.

IF YOU HAVE UCSD SHIP INSURANCE GET YOUR TEETH DONE HERE. I was referred here by my friend (who happens to be the daughter of Dr. Kim) and I seriously haven’t stopped telling my friends about this dentist.
I got my wisdom teeth removed (two different times. Top two, Bottom two). This is by far the BEST experience I’ve had. Both times I had very very very minimal swelling. He took 9 minutes per tooth too! He’s had SO much experience doing free medical missions trips where taking out teeth is now second nature to him. GET YOUR WISDOM TEETH REMOVED HERE. I give people funny looks when they said their wisdom teeth experience was like going to hell — uhh definitely both my instances dictated otherwise.
They also threw in teeth cleaning while at it.
The office is very beautiful and totally legit with high-​tech equipment. They are mostly Korean workers but fluently bilingual. They are very calm and nice people. I love going here (when I need to) and I refer ALL my UCSD friends here who have SHIP. All of them come back with positive experiences.

I don’t often write reviews on help, but I had to write one after my visit to Dr. Kims. I’ve gone to multiple dentists in the San Diego area and Dr. Kim is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. His office is very high tech (I’ve never seen digital x-​rays before) and they do a good job in telling you what procedures they are doing and why they are doing it. Finally, Dr. Kim is just a great dentist. He is very calm and patient and makes me feel really safe. I had to get multiple fillings done and a wisdom tooth extracted. It was byfar the least painful oral surgical procedure I have ever experienced. Although most of the employees are Korean, they all speak fluent english. All in all, I highly recommend this dentist whether you are Korean or not.

I’ve gone to Gentle Dental, Discovery Children’s Dental, San Diego Pediatric Dental Group, and this place is hands down the best.
I had to get my cavity refilled because my old dentist didn’t do it right. Dr. Kim got it done really fast, and it was painless.
They are mainly based off a Korean patient base, but they speak fluent English as well. Their staff is friendly, accommodating, and extremely polite.
Dr. Kim is an amazing dentist, he does a ton of oral surgery so he can spot problems right away. You don’t have to go around seeing different specialists to know your overall dental health.
The RDAs who take x-​rays, assist the doctor, and do your cleanings are really good too. They are nice, have a good sense of humor, and best of all– gentle :)
The Lobby Area:
–Tons of magazines
–Nice leather seats.
–It’s small, which means you won’t be waiting long! Other places I’ve had to wait upwards of 2 hours even with an appointment!
X-​Ray:
–All digital which means 90% less radiation than tradition X-​Ray machines!
–They have access to an x-​ray machine in every station so you don’t have to move around all the time.
–X-​rays don’t need to be developed so it cuts down on the waiting time.
Intra-​oral Cameras:
–They take pictures of problem areas and actually show you and explain what it is, and what needs to be done to fix it. The images are shown on a screen right in front of you.
Wisdom Teeth Extraction:
–Dr. Kim is known for his wisdom teeth extractions. He does them super quick, and never breaks the roots.
Overall extremely satisfied with this place. Dr. Kim is experienced, and takes extreme care of all his patients. He also has an office up in Irvine too.
They are open on Tuesdays, Fridays, and one Thursday a month 9:30−5.
So if you need implants, crowns, gum treatments, root canals, or just a better dentist, give this place a call! Even though they aren’t open, they will take your phone calls Monday, Wednesday, Thursday as well from 10 AM-​4 PM.
