We specialize in unique fine jewelry and diamond engagement rings and wedding sets made by our master jeweler on premises in our jewelry store in Carlsbad. Our graduate Gemologists on staff are here to help you with your purchase as well as jewelry appraisals.

We offer expert jewelry repair & watch repair including watch batteries. We buy gold for scrap or can help you redesign your unwanted jewelry.

History

Established in 1989.

Gems of La Costa has been owned and operated by Dale and Linda Condy since 1989. Dale and Linda met while working together in the same San Diego jewelry store in 1977 after Linda retired from a career as a professional ballet dancer. They married in 1978 and they’ve been a team ever since. They moved to Carlsbad in 1985 to raise their children and pursue their dream of owning their own jewelry store.

Dale and Linda operate Gems of La Costa Jewelers with a simple philosophy. Our goal is to do business on a «win-​win» basis. We want you to feel good about your experience in our store. Business Owner

Dale is a GIA Graduate Gemologist with over 40 years experience in the jewelry industry. He got his start in the jewelry business as a high school student in 1965, working part-​time in a family owned store in Chicago. He attended the Gemological Institute of America in 1972 and continued his career in Carlsbad, California.

I am thrilled with my experience at Gems of La Costa! I have visited the store on many occasions and I have always received excellent service, but on my last visit I found the ring that has become my signature piece of jewelry. The owner’s of Gems of La Costa are Dale and Linda and they run a tight shop with a very personal touch. They were both very attentive on each of my visits and I feel they truly care about their customers. Peter their jewelry, is extremely talented and creative and when I told him the kind of ring I was looking for he notified me as soon as he discovered the ring that I had described. Everyone at Gems of La Costa is «top notch»! I recommend this wonderful jewelry store very highly and I can’t wait to shop there again! Thank you to Gems of La Costa!

I lost a lot of weight recently and my wedding rings were swimming around my finger. I was pretty sure they going to fall off any minute, so I immediately went to Gems of la Costa in Carlsbad because it was the closest jewelry store at the time. Plus, it had good reviews.
The owner, Dale, was incredibly attentive. It didn’t seem to matter that I was just wanted my ring sized and wasn’t contemplating purchasing a $ 3,000 necklace. Providing quality customer service seems to come first here. Rare these days.
He asked me if I I was planning on having my rings sautered together because that would change how they would resize the rings. I told him to go ahead and sauter them.
Dale’s wife, Linda, who’s super sweet, rang me up and took down my contact info. The price was very reasonable. A day later she called to tell me that my CZ had a crack in it and wanted to know if I’d like it replaced. I said to go for it.
Knowing that a naked ring finger is no good, they got me my rings back in a jiffy. It was like I was never without them.
And not only do they fit perfectly, they look amazing! They obviously underwent a thorough cleaning. I keep staring at my ring finger, mesmerized by all the sparkliness! I’m a happy gal!

Once again, I could not be happier with my most recent experience here! I went in with a vague idea for a new wedding band for my 10th wedding anniversary. With Dale’s expert guidance, we found the perfect setting, and he and his amazing team were able to design a band that completely exceeded my expectations! it is EXQUISITE!!! And it was for a very fair and reasonable price as well. If I could give 20 stars, I would!!!

Two of my most beautiful pieces of jewelry have been custom made by Dale. First is an emerald ring my parents made for my 25th birthday, it was so stunning that my boyfriend (now fiancé) was intimidated to ever try to match an engagement ring to it. Luckily, he flew down to San Diego from Seattle so he could also work with Dale and team to custom make an engagement ring. Gems of La Costa went above and beyond helping my fiancé get this beautiful ring completed while he was in a completely different state most of the time. When my boyfriend proposed the first thing I saw was the iconic navy blue Gems of La Costa box and I cried before I even saw the ring because I knew it was going to be perfect! It meant so much that Dale and team could make it for me and I wasn’t let down! Thank you Dale for always creating beautiful jewelry for me and my family. My future husband will be continuing to buy from you in the future!

Gems Of La Costs saved the day today! One of my rings got stuck on my finger and my finger was swelling up. I decided to give GLC a call. It’s Sunday and I didn’t expect anyone to answer. I was lucky because Dale was in today and he said he could help me even though the store was closed. Dale cut my ring off my finger and saved the day. Thank you for being so kind!

I came here to get my watch battery changed. They were able to do it on the fly, they just need to look at it to make sure it was the right battery. Took about 30 minutes and they called me when I was done. Pretty good service though I had minimal interaction. The battery was $ 12. There’s lots of parking out front.

Took a tag watch to get serviced 9 months ago. Then moved to Texas and had an issue with the watch. Called GLC and they honored their warranty so i shipped them back the watch and they resolved the issue and shipped back with a very cheery message. Not suprised of their 5 star rating…
Great people and great service… honorable in a world where honor is harder and harder to find…

I just got engaged a week ago. My fiancé had the ring of my dreams made at Gems of La Costa. It’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen!!! Dale, Peter, and Linda put a lot of heart and soul into making this the perfect fit for my style and the dimensions of my finger.
I couldn’t be more pleased. They were also very sweet to my man while they designed this custom ring behind my back. The whole experience was wonderful. I can’t say enough nice things. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I love GOLC’s selection of jewelry – everything is really gorgeous. I’ve only bought one piece there, and I’m mostly happy with it – some of the gold overlay started to wear away almost immediately, but it’s barely noticeable and I didn’t bring it to their attention when I first noticed it, so at this point that’s pretty much on me.
My experience with them has mostly been cleaning and repairing jewelry. Though this has gone mostly well, their attention to detail sometimes doesn’t live up to my expectations.
For example, my most recent experience was bringing in a pearl ring for cleaning. When I got it back the metal looked great, but there was residue from what I’m guessing was the metal cleaning polish on the pearls. I brought the ring back after I noticed it, and they cleaned some of the residue off but told me the rest was due to discoloration in the pearls and couldn’t be removed. 15 minutes at home with toothpaste, a toothpick, and a toothbrush and I was able to get my pearls clean again.
Overall, while I’ve had some good experiences bringing my pieces to GOLC for cleaning and repair, I don’t know if I’ll be going back and I wouldn’t recommend them for these services anymore.
Worth mentioning, the staff are all really friendly and I never felt pressured to buy while there.

My fiancé had my engagement & wedding rings made here– and let me tell you they are FANTASTIC! He has also bought 4 other pieces from them and all have been exceptionally beautiful!
I went in to get more information about a tungsten wedding band for my fiancé. I spoke with Julia and was a little hesitant because I don’t know anything about men’s jewelry. She was incredibly patient with me and actually educated me on the types of metal and their properties, strengths and weaknesses, etc. She explained the shapes, finishes, etc.- all while being really down to earth and sweet. I felt really comfortable asking questions and I really appreciated her taking the time to walk me through the process of ordering the ring. We plan to go back once we know exactly what we want for his ring!
