This place has the best croissants! Get the chocolate or the almond croissants. Seriously. Get off of your computer right now and get in your car. Drive over to this place and order 5 croissants and start living the dream people! The owner really cares about the quality of his products and it shows. And yes, everything is made fresh.

This is not a bakery. To begin the service is horrible, there were so many people behind the counter and all over and yet it takes forever to be helped. I have ordered two cakes from here and both were terrible. The first cake I went to pick it up two hours after the set pickup time and the cake was not even set aside or ready so they just pulled a cake out of the case and wrote on it. The second time, I was there ten minutes early and the cake wasn’t put together at all, no frosting, the cake was still in separate sheets so I had to wait 30 minutes for them to get it together. The cake itself was not good it was dry and did not have a good flavor. Their custard is yellow and is not real custard, it was disgusting, and they defiantly do not use fresh whip cream. For anyone looking for a bakery this is not a bakery and you should defiantly go somewhere else.

Great food and attentive service. Puts you in the South of France. The breakfast was excellent and the pastry… to die for. Can’t imagine a better place to spend the morning without travelling 6000 miles.

Love their pastries and croissants but my favorite are either one of the two cakes they make — choice of either 1) chocolate with fresh strawberries and chocolate mousse or 2) vanilla with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Both are amazing and well worth the calories.

I’ve come here for the pastries & baked goods, more times then I’m willing to admit. Their flaky apple tarts, fruit tortes, turnovers, and other pastries are amazing! They also offer some of the best tasting gluten-free pastries in North County! As for the food, I’ve never eaten a meal here so cannot say, but they have a permanent customer when it comes to baked goods.

I worked at a great little french café on the east coast for years and this place reminds me a lot of it. Very good desserts and the PRICES are excellent.

I was in search of a new bakery for my traditional weekly treat with my granddaughter since the Carlsbad Danish Bakery changed hands after many, many years and I was disappointed with what the new bakery had to select from and the freshness, or lack thereof. I turned to Unilocal once again to search for what we had enjoyed at the CDB. I had a very short list to start with and the French Pastries Café was our first stop, once we walked in, I knew I could throw away our list, we had found our new weekly stop. Plenty of seating, lots of customers and many who obviously called in orders to pick up for celebrations. Although I haven’t tried any of their breakfasts, they sound delicious, that will be a Sat/Sun stop with hubby. The pastries is what our traditional weekly visits are all about and they do not disappoint, so many selections and all very, very fresh! The employees treat you as though you’ve been a regular forever, prices are comparable to others and the café is a quaint little place to stop for a cup of coffee and a treat!

Went in to order a speciality cake for Christmas and ended up placing a to go order for lunch. Folks are friendly enough, but their packaging issues for take out need serious modifications My French onion soups were in styrofoam containers. They were handed to me and I asked for them to be bagged in case of leaking. After one turn both containers were leaking and the top soup literally melted into the bottom. I had a bag full of messy broth. Recovery was impossible. The soup literally melted the plastic top. I called to let them know and they offered a replacement but I had to be somewhere for an appointment and did not return. In fact, I won’t be returning again. I found a Yule log at a different bakery that doesn’t have the cheezy plastic decorations, more sophisticated w ganache on top and shaved chocolate. I’m disappointed as this bakery is closer to where I frequent

Large restaurant but kitchen closes at 2 pm so no crêpe for me! Almond cream rolls and cinnamon bun like pastry good, crème brûlée is super creamy, perfect! Their french bread crust is not as light and crispy as I like it and the inside is soft somewhat like regular white bread with very few holes. Chocolate croissant could use more chocolate inside but very flaky and puffy. Bathroom had a plunger and toilet scrubber balanced on the safety bar too close to the toilet roll, grossed me out. Music was old rock, a bit loud for a french bakery. Cooler gets foggy so its a little hard to see whats below.

Great pastries but the service sucks. Every time I’m in here I stand there waiting to buy a cinnamon roll while there is one person working and 4 others standing around talking with each other. Today while I was in 2 woman are sitting inside having breakfast with their big furry dog, gross. Since when do restaurants allow you to bring non-service dogs inside where everyone eats. Oct 5, 201510:20AM So I thought I’d give it one more shot. Waited 5 minutes and yet still no one could help me. Owner walked right by me and looked at me… nothing. I’m done, I will never stop here again and I will tell everyone I know that the service here absolutely sucks. Too bad, great cinnamon rolls but not worth the wait. I changed my review from 2 stars to 1

The breakfast was OK. Service was mediocre. He was very nice and came over right away but I had to walk inside to get a set of utensils. I asked and he said he would be right out. Then I sat back down and stared at my plate for a couple minutes before my date when inside and asked again. Kind of a bummer when your omelette is just sitting there staring at you. I ordered a ham and Swiss omelette and I could have made better at home with my novice cooking skills. The ham was roughly chopped up sandwich cut ham. It wasn’t spread out evenly inside the omelette. The looked like they dropped a handful right in the middle and then folded that handful in half when closing the omelette. There was a ball of ham in the center and that’s it. The egg on the inside of the omelette was running and wiggly. I’m ok with running yolks in fried eggs but runny scrambled eggs is not the business. My date got an omelette with chicken and spinach and it tasted much better than mine. I might go back for the crepes or fresh baked breads. I’m thinking that may be there specialty since mine meal was a bit lacking.

Fresh and flavorful baked goods with nice patient staff. According to my daughter, the Nutella and banana crepes were great!

I found out about this place through a customer of ours that highly recommended it. Well, I gave it a shot and he was absolutely correct. Everything we tried was delicious. And we tried a lot. The breakfast croissant was outstanding as I am a savory person. My wife had some of the sweeter side of the shop and she was pleased as well. Do yourself a favor and and give them a shot. But remember to order a few things to go as well! Great food great people.

Amazing bakery. Great owner, supports the military with discount. Ordered a large birthday cake and it was amazing. The only place to buy cakes. Everything is awesome!

Fantastic baguettes, cinnamon twists, and cookies! I had been in this place a couple of times, but left without getting anything. The third time was a charm when I went in with my 5 year old son. He was in day camp near by and I stopped to get him a treat. I am so happy that I did. The baguettes are perfection, crisp on the outside and airy on the inside. The twists have a great balance of cinnamon, sugar, and just a hint of butter. YUM! I gave my son pieces of his on the ride home and whem we pulled in the driveway nothing was left by a huge mess of crumbs all over his carseat & the backseat and a huge smile on his face. The 5 minutes of vacuuming was well worth it. I do agree with some of the other reviews, the customer service is not stellar. The counter staff were more interested in their conversations than helping customers. I did feel like I was intruding. I actually felt the need to apologize for interrupting them to ask a question. Odd. That’s the only reason this is a 4 star vs 5 star review.

FLORENTINES are almond flour tuile cookies rolled while they’re still warm out of the oven into cylinders, the ends dipped in chocolate and then stuffed with butter-cream. yeah, just a bit decadent … my ten-year old daughter, JULIANA, is a cannoli junkie and was having friends over for a sleepover(a curious turn of phrase since it was their declared intention of «pulling an all-nighter»). an hour before her guests arrived, she decided she wanted her dad to whip up a batch of cannoli s’mores(graham flour cannoli stuffed with marshmallow cream and mini chocolate chips and then topped with more marshmallow cream and torched) — under the time restraints i opted for plan B and we made a mad dash to the FRENCHPASTRIESCAFE. we’ve picked up stuff here from time to time and never been disappointed — the FLORENTINES we got yesterday were no exception. kind of an odd choice for«birthday cake» but then again JULIANA’s 1st grade teacher pulled her mom and i aside and told us «you know how some kids, they say, march to the beat of a different drummer? well, your daughter has her own orchestra. welcome to my world …
