History

Established in 1882.

Carlsbad Alkaline Water — Carlsbad Mineral Water was discovered in 1882 and was famous for its therapeutic «Most Healthful Water» that people used for all different illnesses by drinking and bathing in it.

Hotel and spa was built and many famous movie stars would visit it. The town was renamed from Frazier Station to Carlsbad after the famous water.

The water was lost in late 1930 during the Great Depression, due to the lack of funds to maintain the artesian wells.

In 1993 Ludvik and Veronica Grigoras started to restore the wells and in 1996 the water was available again.

Today people come from all over again as far as Las Vegas, Arizona, Los Angeles, San Diego and other places to pick up Carlsbad Alkaline Water from vending machines in Carlsbad.

Our unique water was declared in 1954 by California Senate as «The Most Healthful Water» and was on Ellen DeGeneres show. Many professional athletes drink our water.

Business Owner

Ludvik Grigoras the owner of Carlsbad Alkaline Water was born in 1949 Carlsbad Czech Republic, the original Carlsbad during the Communist Era. In 1968 when he was 19 years old he escaped to West Germany during the Dubcek Revolution, where he lived for 2 years.

He study instrumentation engineer and work for Honeywell Inc. all over the world. In 1987 he married Veronica and have son Kevin who proudly served 5 years in the US Army and in Iraq. Kevin is working today for the business and Jake & Tom his step brother work with him.

In 1990 he started the sister city program between Carlsbad California and Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary) Czech Republic his home town.

In 1993 Ludvik started to restore the Carlsbad Historical artesian wells that were lost for 60 years and moved to Carlsbad that was named after his home town. He worked about one year 55 feet underground inside of the old well. The restoration took over 3 years and in 1997 he build the famous historical Carlsbad Mineral Water Spa.

I LOVE this water! We come from Los Angeles to fill up all of our glass bottles. I’ve noticed little things since we have started using it like I just generally feel better health wise, it makes coffee taste much better, and that when you make ice cubes they freeze crystal clear not foggy haha. You can read all about the history of the building and why the water is so much healthier for you if you check out their website. Filling up & sterilizing the bottles is easy, some of the employees come off a little odd but I think that it’s just a difference in personality.

I have been getting my pH balanced water here for the past four or five months. I love the water and the price. The customer service was usually hurried and with minimum information for a newbie. Then this last visit, I met Will — extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly! Thank you Will!

Pros:
This place is really well-​priced for both facials and massages.
Staff gives you a very personalized experience. I have some severe allergy sensitivities, especially to scents. This place is ALWAYS accommodating.
Awesome themed rooms that provide a great experiences.
Cons:
Sometimes it can be hard to get a session on short notice. This is not one of the big commercial places with an army of staff. It is small.
Bottom Line: This is the first place I call when I come into the area.

I had the couples massage about 2 weeks ago and it was amazing. I didn’t know what to expect but we were led into amazing themed room. After undressing and laying on the table, the massage was so relaxing I kept falling asleep.

Best water ever. I now live in Santa Monica where something not as good is $ 2.60 per gallon instead of $ 0.70. There is no excuse for anyone not near Carlsbad to enjoy this fully.

LOVE Carlsbad Alkaline Water! That’s all I drink, and I’ll tell you more: I use it make tasteful espresso and make my own bread and pizza dough. It’s cheap, ecolologic, tastes great. Just go for it!

I have been drinking Carlsbad Mineral Water for a few weeks. I have to say its the simple things in life that make us happy. I am so appreciative for this wonderful water. It’s been here all along and I had never tried it. There is no comparison. I have tried all the bottle waters from Sparkletts to Arrowhead Spring water and they do not taste any where near this great. I had been told I need to drink 10 — 8 ounce glasses of water a day, but I was having a hard time with the other waters available to me. For the first time I actually feel like I am hydrated enough and my skin even looks much better. So Thankful!

Located in Downtown Carlsbad this place was quite busy. The bf had heard about it and wanted to stop by to pick up some water. If you have some time it is worth it to read up on this place and their water. I really would like to come back for a spa treatment and we most likely will pick up some more water when we are down this way again …

Had an apt booked for our anniversary, and apparently it was written down on another day. Really??! Horrible customer service. We walked in to our supposedly apt and the front desk girl was eating… At the front desk! Isn’t there a break room for that. The place doesn’t even look like a spa feel. Never again.

DO NOT PAY IT FORWARD if you are filling up water!!! It used to be that the money you left in the machine would stay there until someone else came to fill up this is no longer the case! About a minute after you finish using the machine the balance will go down to $ 0.00
I witnessed some one leave 4.50 as a gesture of kindness for the next person to come up to the dispenser. I was at the machine next to them and over heard there decision to pay it forward and how happy the next person will be about getting 6 gallons of free water. Once I finished filling up I’d left $ 1.50 with the same intention only to see it all disappear after moving my jugs back to my car. Looks like they are trying to collect the extra cash instead of just leaving it there for the next person. I still love this water but if you think you’re being nice by leaving your change just know it’s going to the spa not a fellow water lover.
If you feel like paying it forward pull the change release to get your cash back and just leave it in the dispenser tray.

Where shall I begin! This water is the best water I have ever drank and I am COMPLETE water snob! The customer service is top notch and both Jake and Kevin are very helpful at both lifting bottles if they are too heavy or explaining how to utilize the machines.
Although Ive not experienced the spa yet I will say that I met a woman who works there last week while picking up my water. Her demeanor alone was so incredibly lovely that I am excited to book my first appointment!!!

I really enjoyed the spa course.
Soaked in the mineral hot tab alone in the room with relaxed music.. Two thumbs up. Then nice long massage.. The good thing here is no up selling on anything. But I’m always curious on the new things, so I would totally listen if they recommend. I signed up on their email list for any specials but it’s been 6 months never hear anything yet. Come on… no one likes the email blasts but I would certainly appreciate if they send me any special hook up emails for their previous customers. .I really enjoy this place :)

Guess I lucked out living so close to the only artesian well pumping alkaline water in SD. Of all the health benefits, the most startling is that cancers require an acidic environment to grow. Alkalinity halts cancer growth and places it into remission. Water is the most important substance you will ever ingest in your life. It is a carrier for your nutrients, your neurological signaling and to process waste out of the body.
Tap water can never be filtered clean of the contaminants, which is why they add toxic chemicals to «kill» the municipal water supply, so the pollutants and disease that make it through the filtration process are rendered inactive. Tap water is filthy poison. Do yourself a favor and start using alkaline water as a part of your health routine. With 24 hour access to the refill stations on the exterior, there is no excuse not to keep the water jug in the car and stop for a refill as you’re passing by. Located two blocks from Carlsbad Village, machines take bills, $ 1, $ 5 & $ 10’s.
So here are your options: Pay for clean water now, or pay for the doctor later. I recommend using a glass jug, which they sell during normal business hours. A five gallon glass jug might be too heavy for you full, so I recommend a three gallon for those who have a hard time lifting. They sell metal handles for the glass jugs that makes carrying much easier. The reason I recommend glass over plastic is because even if the jug claims to be BPA free, chemicals still leach into your water as the plastic ages regardless of the plastic’s composition. If you were using plastic, switch to glass and I’ll bet you can taste the difference.

Hippie water may not cure cancer but I am a fan of it. It seems to give me more energy and tastes great. Alkaline water has a pH greater than 7 is claimed to help your body neutralize acid. Theoretically drinking this water can detoxify, hydrate, oxygenate, alkalize and enhance a body’s immune system. I have heard that cancer can not survive in an alkaline environment.
The FDA frowns on these claims, «Consumers are advised not to fall prey to these unscrupulous vendors and peddlers,» the advisory said.
So where does that leave me? I think that the science is interesting and it makes sense that the introduction of alkaline water will change the pH of a system. It does seem to give me more energy and lets me sleep better.
I feel like a lab rat, testing an unknown product on my temple. But in a lab the rats probably do not understand the hypothesis and methods in a test which may effect the results. I want the claims to be true so my review of this product may be based on the placebo effect.
Whatever, it makes me feel like I am doing something good for my body.
Carlsbad Water does not offer users to select from a range of alkaline level even though it is possible to do so. Even without this option people flock to get this hippie water. It’s increase in popularity has enabled Carlsbad Mineral water spa to increase the cost by 40% in the past year.
I like the increase in energy and clarity that I feel after drinking this water so placebo effect or not, I am on the alkaline band wagon.

I’ve never used the Spa services here but we come here weekly to buy our supply of THE BEST WATER EVER! We are so lucky that Carlsbad provides the most amazing alkaline water at such a great price. I don’t know how you could complain about the recent price increase. where else are you going to find cheaper Alkaline water?!

Gouging Loyal Locals is Nasty Business! Raising the price $.10 is one thing,
$$$$$$RAISING IT AGAIN THREE MONTHS LATER? $$$$$$$$$$
No way! An additional $.20 per gallon, we already spend way more than the average «water machine» prices & YOU hit us again!
—-Family business, nasty practices! —-Owners, who now gouge locals for the water! One, the water is good, two, my family & I are self titled «water snobs», three, they’re now running a SELF service water gouging business! Up $.10… Okay, fine… $.20??? in three months PER GALLON!!!
—-Owner swindles/“gives”/demands yelling, handing out water bottles with NO HANDLES, with his logo takes our OWN personal bottles, (I am guessing here but he recycled ours in return for his crap grip-​less ones? Yes, he made money) and then proceeds to raise the cost per gallon $.20 in three months? ONE GALLON OF WATER IS OVER $ 1.60 for self serve! Selfish service, self serving is more likely.
For my family of five? That’s well over $ 35 minimum, a month for us for water to drink! I hope the new construction around his business helps him come to reality, as the always FORMERLY packed parking lot, (which he won’t pave, nice mud) is now empty every time we are there. I’d rather go to Oceanside with my gas than be gouged by this «family company». Or more than that? Being originally from Lake Tahoe, I’ll go buy bottles of Lake Tahoe water at Walmart!, then recycle! That way, I know more people who matter than this gouging family will make some money in this economy!
You should truly be ashamed of yourselves & gouging your loyal locals & friends… Sad another «family company» falls to ruined ethics!

Best Water in Coastal North County San Diego
A couple of years ago, a friend suggested that I switch from RO, reverse osmosis, purified water to the alkaline water from Carlsbad Mineral Water Spa. I was drinking the purified water as I have tested the tap water in San Diego County at past QC Chemistry lab jobs and it is a bit disgusting. At the time, the alkaline water did not taste that much different from the RO water. As I began doing research on acid vs. alkaline foods and the health benefits of an alkaline based diet, I changed over my water source.
The only ‘problem’ with the water is the huge crowd of people it has drawn can make you wait to refill your bottles. Yesterday, a couple drove down from the San Fernando Valley to obtain their monthly supply. How is that for a testimonial!
Like the old saying from a Malt-​O-​Meal commercial, «Good stuff, Maynard!»

First time here! I was a little skeptical on everything the water «salesman» was saying. How could water be that different from the water Ive been drinking the last 30 years. Very glad we found this place the water is great! Normally I need water to be ICE cold to drink but this water tastes very pure and is even good room temp!!! Stop by and grab a 5gallon and a dispenser they have everything you need there to start drinking healthier better tasting water.
Best of all its going to save me money from buying the big plastic packs of water bottles!
