We really want to like California Shutters and Shades as we had a great experience purchasing custom shutters and cellular shades for our new home with Ron Dilon in 2012. The company has really slacked off drastically since then.
We initially contacted them earlier this year regarding two minor warranty issues for shutters and blinds and it took months for it to finally get resolved. They tried to charge us for issues covered under warranty until Ron, who I think is pretty much retired, stepped in to take care of it.
Recently, we contacted California Shutters and Shades for a quote on window treatments for our new house. After meeting their rep who took measurements we were assured that we would have a quote by the end of that week. After SEVERAL calls to follow up and reassurances that we would receive a same day return call we still don’t have a quote (or return call) now over a month since that meeting. What a waste of time!
Our experience seems to be consistent with several of the negative testimonies here on Unilocal.Unfortunately California Shutters and Shades has really dropped the ball big time. The only thing that saves this review from being zero stars is our past experience with Ron.

I got my faux blinds installed about a 1 ½– 2 years ago. The sales man Ron Dilon was very nice and did a good job as I got a good quote which was lower than another company I got. I remember him explaining that my blinds come with a lifetime warranty as well which is another reason to pick them over another company. He explained that if anything happens I would be taken care of with out any issue. Well I called customer service about a string breaking on one of them. The rep Sam explained to me that warranty doesn’t cover that because it’s normal wear and tear and to come fix it would be $ 150. Now mind you this blind HARDLY ever gets used. Its in my guest bedroom. So its not normal wear and tear. Its poor quality of blinds if you ask me. So I asked him what my warranty does cover. He said it covers fading, warping, and chipping. I said great because this blind happens to be faded so can we warranty that. He said no problem email me a picture and get it taken care of. So after inspection of my other blinds I came to find out 6 other blinds are faded and this it’s barely been 2 years!!! Another indication of not the best quality. So a couple days later I emailed him pictures. No response from him. The next day I sent another email asking for a response. I get a call a little later that day. He explained they will come out and look at the blinds but it’s still going to cost me $ 150! This makes no sense to me if my blinds are under warranty. He said well the warranty is technically with the maker of Hunter Douglas, I said well how do I go about getting my blinds warranted through Hunter Douglas. He said since we installed them we would have to do the warranty work. Needless to say I didn’t make an appointment with him. If my blinds are «under warranty» there shouldn’t be any kind of «fee» if they are a reputable company that stands by their product. Doesn’t seem right to me and that’s it was miss-​representation of the sales man from the beginning claiming they are a better company to chose because everything is 100% covered with their warranty which I found out isn’t true at all. Needless to say the next thing I am doing is I am going to try and get in touch with a manager over there to make this right or I am going to the better business bureau.

California Shutters and Shades were AWESOME! My order was taken in a professional manner with help from the FANTASTIC SALES REP who helped with the design and color. The timing and delivery was exactly what sales rep quoted. Installation clean easy quick. Most of all THE PRICING was the most competitive as I researched before choosing this company. My experience was so good that I’ve just put a call in to order MORE. I want the same salesman! I will let you know how round two goes! BEAUTIFUL JOB, WELL DONE.

The installers were very nice. I ordered late (blinds for a window and sliding glass door), but was still hoping to get them by Thanksgiving. I didn’t get them by Thanksgiving, which I understand, but I didn’t have the right ones by Christmas, Easter, nor the 4^th of July. At the first installation appointment, the window blinds did not fit correctly, and didn’t look like the sliding glass door would either. The double valance I ordered was not there. Rep. came out and remeasured, fixed the window problem, but said the door should fit. The installers came out again in January. The window fit fine. The sliding glass door; so-​so. The installers had never seen the double valance, did not know how to install them, cut the window one too short. Said they would order new valance for window, and find out how to install them. Never heard from them again.

They never return phone calls or emails. I’ve tried multiple times but they just don’t respond.

Customer service is terrible, non responsive and ignores concern of customers. Shade product is substandard and shades broke within a week of installation and remain unrepaired several weeks later despite numerous requests for corrective action. Shades fray and material appears substandard. Gary

Great experience overall! Chose them because the estimate was much better priced than other companies, for better product. Absolutely love my new shutters. Highly recommended.

Such a fantastic group of people to work with. From the very beginning to the very end, all sales people and installers were very professional. I absolutely love my product and would definitely recommend them in the future.

One of there representatives showed up and did a great job of explaining everything and we spent 3 hours with a young man with no problems and were expecting the estimate of everything we had selected. He did so good that we did not plan on anyone else doing this for us. So we waited and waited and finally two weeks later I called there main number again and explained and asked if he was ok. They were surprised that he never got back to us and she said he went to school during the days and we could contact him.
Nothing! Not even from the women that took our call, they never called back or emailed. Totally unreliable!

Excellent product install and service. Very well priced and would recommend them highly!

California Shutters and Shades is a family run business that seem to take great pride in their work. They came up to Murrieta from Carlsbad. the shutters they installed are absolutely beautiful. Our old ones were a mess and desperately needed replacing.
I changed my mind on the color of the shutters. Fortunately, they hadn’t been ordered yet and they were very accommodating. I did get blinds to match the kitchen cabinets; the rest of the house are all the same color, a beautiful creamy white called linen.
Shannon runs the office with the help of her Mom (who is in training :) and her husband and father do the installation. I wasn’t crazy about the salesman, but it’s not like we were dating or going to be best friends, so that doesn’t matter. He really knows the business and will bring the samples to your house.
The price was vey reasonable and we’re extremely pleased. You can’t go wrong with this company. I am proud to show my house off now!
