Beach Terrace Inn

We have stayed at this hotel three times over the past five years. We love the rooms, they are huge and the bathrooms are fantastic with rain shower heads. The beds are comfortable, furnishings while not brand new are clean and inviting.
Pay the extra and get a room with a balcony and view of the ocean. So nice to sit on to watch the sunset and early morning activities on the beach. We have seen dolphins, fish, paddle boarders, surfers, fishing, boats and big navel ships from the deck.
There is not a restaurant on premise but within a very short walk are some pretty outstanding ones. We love walking to these and trying a new one every time we come to Carlsbad. We have not eaten at the same restaurant twice.
The staff is friendly and helpful. They have umbrellas, boogie boards, beach chairs to use on the beach. Did I tell you the hotel is ON the beach, you walk down the stairs and you are on the beach. Amazing.
I don’t know when but my wife and I are going to be in Carlsbad for a long weekend again this year and we will be staying here.

We stayed in one of the oceanfront suites. Hands-​down the best view I’ve ever seen. We were on the third floor and felt that we were right over the water. It was nice to people to relax on the balcony and in joy the gorgeous surroundings.
The furnishings were OK but they could use a facelift.
The only downside was that there is no restaurant and no room service. There’s some great restaurants in walking distance but it’s nice to be able to order room service so you don’t have to go out or for a late night snack.
I would definitely go there again.

Amazing. My girlfriend and I stayed and it was extremely relaxing and beautiful. Ryan helped us out and recommend and awesome restaurant and even made us our reservation. Extremely helpful staff. I will be back.

My husband and I recently booked a Partial Ocean View hotel with Groupon. We were a bit skeptical with what our room would be like using a Groupon, but it definitely exceeded our expectations.
THE ROOM WAS HUGE! We were on the second floor, with a corner room that definitely had a view of the ocean, including being able to see AND hear the waves crash against the shoreline. Also, the bathroom was gorgeous, with a HUGE walk-​in, glass shower, with a rainfall shower head.
The hotel offers a nice Continental Breakfast, that guests can enjoy in a room with a spectacular view of the ocean!
So, why not a 5-​Star review. .. for the following reasons:
1) Within 5 minutes after checking into our room, at about 4:30pm, someone knocked on our hotel door. We were NOT expecting any guests or hotel staff. BEFORE we could get to the door to open it and WITHOUT any announcement by the person to identify who he was or why he was at our door, this person actually proceeded to open our door with a key and enter our room. It ended up being a member of the hotel staff with a stack of towels, asking if we had ordered towels — which we hadn’t. «Wrong Room» was his explanation.
2) Between 8:15 a.m. — 8:45 a.m. the next day, we tried a couple of times to reach someone at the Front Desk to ask a question. No one ever answered the phone. While there was some construction going on at the time that resulted in the Front Desk being «temporarily» relocated to one of the guest rooms, it seemed odd to not have someone pick up the phone, despite being told at Check-​In that we could reach someone 24 hours a day at the Front Desk with any questions/​requests.
3) Then, at little later, about 9:15 a.m., we once again had someone knock on our hotel door. Just as the day before, we were NOT expecting anyone and didn’t think it should be housekeeping at such an early hour — with the hotel check-​out time being 11 a.m. Again, BEFORE we could get to the door AND WITHOUT any announcement or identification as to who or why the person was at the door, this individual at the door proceeded to open our hotel door with a key. It ended up being a member of the hotel staff asking if we needed anything, which we appreciated. But, entering our room «unannounced» we did NOT like at all.
While these 3 issues might have explanations, like a wrong room #, a Busy Front desk or an attempt to provide assistance, we were VERY DISTURBED by 2 «staff» members who basically entered our room UNANNOUNCED and UNINVITED. These encounters left us feeling very uneasy and unsafe about staying at this hotel in the future.
Lastly, because of the construction at the hotel during our stay, trying to get to the Dining Room for the Continental Breakfast was very challenging. While there were signs re-​directing guests to «alternate» hotel exits, we were among several hotel guests who wondered around the hotel simply trying to find the door to the Dining Room, as the main Dining Room entrance was blocked-​off. Visible notifications (signage) for hotel guests to locate the «temporary» entrance would have been very helpful, especially since the only way in/​out of the Dining Room ended up being the «Emergency Exit» door.

Incredible hotel, my family and I stayed here during the week for 2 nights and, the location is perfect, the hotel was very clean. breakfast was beautify laid out (with a view of the waves) and the staff were extremely accommodating. The room was bigger than my first apartment! :p
I will be recommending the Beach Terrance inn to all my friends and family. Gorgeous hotel, on the sand!

My wife and 3 boys wanted a quick escape for the weekend, the Beach Terrace Inn could not have been better! From the second we made the reservation through arrival and departure all of the staff were genuinely happy to help us and that we were there. The rooms were very clean, great sized and very nice. The location on the sand, hot tub and heated pool and pool deck viewing area were tremendous! Park your car (no charge) and walk to dozens of restaurants, surf shops and specialty stores and enjoy this quaint little town. Can’t wait to get back!

Our family loves the Beach Terrace Inn and we visit as often as we can afford the price! The rooms are large, clean, nicely decorated, and well cared for. Proximity to the pool, the beach, and the amazing sunset is the best feature. A good breakfast buffet with a beautiful view starts each day off right. The Inn is in easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. Shhh! Don’t tell all your friends. We don’t want our favorite spot to get too crowded.

Revisited this past September. Outstanding once again. Thanks to the manger once again for being a polished professional.

This hotel was awesome! My wife and I stayed there for 2 nights on our mini-​honeymoon and we had such a nice and relaxing time. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Their level of service is top notch. Some cool highlights for us:
— Awesome continental breakfast every morning with a beautiful ocean view
— You can order any of 5 luxury pillows and they will bring it to your room at no extra cost.
— We put a «do not disturb sign» up on our door one morning and on our way out found a basket full of towels, body lotions, etc. right in front of the door.
— Within walking distance to all restaurants and bars in the village area.
— Free yoga class on the beach Sunday morning.
Overall, awesome place. We had a blast. Thank you Beach Terrace Inn!

Great place for a quick staycation especially if you visit during the off-​months to get a much more reasonable rate. Will definitely stay there again.

My wife and I had an amazing time at Beach Terrace. We showed up to the Inn a little earlier than we expected. Our room wasn’t available yet, but they gave us keys to the pool and near-​completely-​private beach.
Once we were able to get into our room, my newly-​wed wife and I found an awesomely romantic and relaxing honeymoon experience waiting for us. Our room overlooked the private pool and beach. It had deck that we could sit out on and stare at the waves. The room had a very comfortable bed and perfect bathrooms.
Wifi: I had zero troubles.
AC: I had air conditioning. It was awesome.
Staff: I had zero complaints about the staff. The only thing was they said they would call me when my room was done and they didn’t. But that wasn’t enough to drop an entire star.
Breakfast: free breakfast with exactly what you want and expect. But no terrible eggs or fake meat. Who wants that anyways? Cereal, bread, juices, and perfectly adequate coffee.

Have thoroughly enjoyed our stays at the Beach Terrace Inn and the staff is always really helpful — well except for the one lady who wouldn’t check me in because the reservation was in my husbands name — that was weird — but whatever. The WiFi sucks but the beach is awesome. The free breakfast is not the bomb but the pool and hot tub are pretty fun and the boogie board, beach chair, sumbrellas they have to borrow are great. I really wish there was an actual restaurant on site and/​or room service and the stairs can be a bit much but the location cannot be beat, the beach is just great, so there is always that. Our room on the pool deck was huge with a big king bed and we got a roll away so we fit all 4 of us in somehow. It was a fun few days and we will be back next summer!

Stayed on the Pool Deck level. We had a family of 5 and had the luxury of 2 KING beds and a rollaway. It was extremely comfortable! The room was very clean and the bathroom was upgraded very well. We checked out boogie boards, chairs and umbrellas. All were in good condition. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The only difficulty was the poor wi-​if.
The location is great! It’s a short walk into Carlsbad for food, shopping and the Farmers Market.

View and location are great. Staff, except for Matthew, are rude/​uninterested.
They advertise free wifi but forget to mention that wifi doesn’t work at all– front office admits that only room 15 has wifi.
They advertise free beach chairs but they run out by 11 daily.
Bathroom has no air conditioning so is a humid hot hell.
Not at all worth the $$$.

Beautiful hotel! Giant rooms. Corner ocean front is the way to go. The location is excellent. Not just because it’s right on the sand, but you have 20 – 40 restaurants within a .25-.5 ml walk to Carlsbad village.
Our room was very large. Plenty of room. Bathroom was very well done. Large showers, good water pressure. Looked newly remodeled. Mini fridge was a plus for leftovers too.
Staff was very friendly and knowledgable.
Free breakfast was good. Coffee, tea. Bagel, toast. Yogurts, cereal, fresh fruit.
I would have loved to of give this hotel 5 stars. But couldn’t for lack of wifi connection. Good thing it was free because it was worthless. If you go up to the lobby it’s a little better. Even cellular data on Verizon was slow.
I would defiantly stay again!

This hotel has everything you could ask of a Southern California resort!
Access to the beach, great food in Downtown Carlsbad just steps away, the ability to check out beach toys for a beach day, awesome pool and a fun and friendly staff!

Beautiful Oceanside boutique hotel experience!
My mom and I stayed here for our girls trip along the San Diego coast. I’m glad this was our last hotel because it was by far the nicest room & best view of the ocean!
Prudence checked us in early and helped make local suggestions & get an iPhone app that shows nearby activities! She was a sweetheart!
We had a double king room, unit 16 that was on the lowest floor literally 5 feet over the beautiful carlsbad sandy beach.
One of the only negatives to this stay was the horrible cell reception & impossible wifi! I couldn’t even get a text to go through while staying here… But that might have been part of the «escape»!
Also no bell hop or valet– in fact the parking is very shady across the street. We saw a van had it’s back window broken in the night we were there.
The room had a mini fridge & wet bar that had wine glasses, a wine opener, and two huge complimentary bottles of water.
The shower was roomy & the water pressure perfect! Loved the sandy feet wipe in the bathroom as well as mouthwash. After staying in 3 other San Diego area hotels this one had small extras that make a difference.
My mom and I decided next summer we will just stay at the Beach Terrace for our entire trip!

Pros: Beautiful view with a picture perfect location. You wake up and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean outside your door. The rooms are massive and the bathrooms are sleek and clean despite being right on the beach (the worst is when there is sand everywhere. A+ job to the cleaning crew!)
It’s a short walk away from Carlsbad Village Drive which is home to a bunch of cute shops, and restaurants. Keep in mind — most of the stores close at 9pm.
Cons: We stayed on the bottom level and there was absolutely no cell service. Texts and calls were impossible to send and receive. The wireless internet was slow as well, so it was a bit frustrating, especially since my job is internet based.
The breakfast was delicious but it’s mostly carbs, and we really wish they had a restaurant in the hotel. There are also no elevators so be prepared for stairs! Not many, but if you have trouble walking, ask for a room close to street level.
Customer service needs a revamp as well. The kids working by the pool were wonderful, it’s the front desk representatives were pretty useless. There was a lack of professionalism. It was August, aka the peak time of their season, and there were very few employees present.
Overall we had a wonderful and relaxing time and I would definitely suggest if you are looking for a vacation where you can disconnect!
