I love this place! I wish I lived a little closer than Brea, but it is soooo worth the drive. The view is amazing, right across the street of the beach, we got patio seats on the 4th of July and… it was everything I could have hoped for. Please go!

They must have closed! I just drove by and they’re no longer there. I’ll miss the big mason jars of cheap beer and the great mac & cheese!

the best BBQ at the beach! I just had the best pulled chicken sandwich ever! With the best ocean view… on the beach! Honestly, great service, incredible authentic hand made food, and… rediculously cheap beer prices! Need I say more?

I came to Steer Crazy on Saturday night looking for beer and pulled pork. The pulled pork was decent, but the beer, although at a good price, was almost non-existent. Lets back up just a little. Apparently on a Saturday night, there is only one waitress between a small 20 seat restaurant and the adjoining bar, called Sunsets Bar( ), to which they also provide food/appetizers to. It looks like all the restaurants(a sushi joint [that serves mostly rolls… you know my opinion on that sh*t], an Italian joint, and others]) in the same small complex, mostly cater to the people at the bar. Its sad considering when we first arrived, there were more people in Steer Crazy than the bar… on a Saturday night. If you are even thinking about getting food in any place in this complex, you will probably get better service at the bar than you will here… providing you don’t have any visible tattoos. Apparently, the adjoining bar does not let people in with visible tattoos. The real problem was there should be at least a second waiter/waitress for the restaurant and the adjoining bar because a single person isn’t cutting it. At Steer Crazy your suppose to get a 32oz beer for $ 5, but when they run out of the 32oz glasses, you get a little 16oz glass and you have to wait for refills. It doesn’t make for a good time when your sitting there for a good while waiting for your sad little 16oz glass to get refilled. The only good news is that I got 3 refills at the price of $ 5. To be honest, I would have rather gotten the 32oz glass and paid more. Horrible service. I ordered the SteerCrazy Pulled Pork with Grilled Corn and Freshly Made Potato Chips… but I actually wanted to get the Mac & Cheese instead of the Potato Chip. Apparently they were out and it takes about 1 hour to make Mac & Cheese. The pulled pork was good(but nothing I haven’t done at home), the grilled corn was average(again nothing like I haven’t done on the grill), and the potato chips were awful. I mean horribly awful in the worst kind of way. I actually make potato chips from scratch at home and they taste infinitely better than their«homemade» potato chips. They were just soggy, greasy, sad, pathetic, little potatoes that where just over cooked in oil and became soggy. Simply nasty. I had a couple and just left the rest in the basket o’ nasty. I was hoping to get some great food in the home cooked kind of way… only to be met with horrible disappointment. The only thing that saves this place from a 1 star is the pulled pork. Its actually decent, but it definitely isn’t worth putting up with all negatives that Steer Crazy has. If you feel like gambling on your dinner and drinks, you might have better luck than we had. A very, very, very, very generous 2 star.

Went here with my mom one day. She had seen this place driving home one day and wanted to stop by. I was under the impression it was a southern bbq type of place. I quickly learned my mistake. Once I got over my initial disappointment and actually looked at the menu I was quite happy with what I saw. Its international bbq and it was tasty! The nachos were great but I will have to order them without olives and pineapple next time. I’m not a fan pf either and I still found the nachos delicious. The wings were also very good and my pulled pork was huge and tasty. The place is small and very… casual. There were a bunch of bikers there when I went, not my usual crowd. Definitely worth a taste.

We just arrived in CA and needed a place close by to grab some grub. I quickly hopped on Unilocal, and saw some good reviews. When we arrived, the place was set back in a strip mall of sorts, so we were a little thrown off. But as soon as we entered, I knew it was my kinda place; cozy, super friendly staff, and country jams pumping through out. The restaurant is small, and luckily it was early enough, so they were able to accommodated 7 of us. There are two tables right up against the chef’s pit if you like to watch all the action, or you can sit side by side on the out side patio looking out on the water. You can help yourself to beers in the cooler, $ 1 bottles of Coors light, bud light, BL lime, land shark, among other things, or order a local beer on tap in a mason jar(there’s also tea and soda). Chips and a fabulous mango/ginger salsa(which I have to say, is the most delicious salsa I’ve ever had) comes standard at your table. I was torn between the pulled pork and the brisket, both sounded amazing. I decided to go for the brisket, with the southwestern style sauce, and few others ordered the same with the classic BBQ(Johnny American?). The meat comes on a perfect, soft, sweet roll topped with a vinegar based slaw, adding just the right amount of acidity to the sandwich. We ordered a side of bacon mac and cheese which was simply to die for. If Steer Crazy was in my town, I’d be a regular. It was probably one of the best meals I had my whole trip.

E and I took a last-minute road trip to California from Colorado, and ended up in pretty and quaint little Capistrano Beach. Our original intent was to do some beach camping, but I had NO idea that L.A.ers liked to camp! Holy hell, those campsites were packed like sardine tins. In retrospect, E and I are glad we got a hotel, because after getting used to Colorado camping, where you are normally a half mile from the next-closest tent, we would have been miserable hedged in by people and listening to every single twist, turn, and snore… But that’s off topic. Our hotel ended up being right next door to the building that houses Steer Crazy, a sushi place, an Italian restaurant, and a bar, Sunsets(where we originally started). After getting a little tipsy at Sunsets, which was quite an accomplishment because A, we were at sea level and B, all I had was a freakin’ Corona light and amaretto with cranberry juice, we got the munchies and wanted food. We decided to bypass sushi and went straight for the barbecue. We were met at the door by one of the cooks. He told us that they had closed a half-hour earlier but that he’d fix us anything that didn’t need the grill. Score! They had put away all the food, but he pulled the Kahlua pork back out and made us some AMAZING sliders on Hawaiian sweet rolls. One had a piece of pickled ginger and a sweet BBQ sauce, one had green onions and a smokier BBQ suace, and one had blue cheese crumbles. They came with Maui barbecue chips and were MORE than enough food for less that $ 7. They also hit the spot extremely well. I have in fact been thinking about them ever since I ate them, and would probably have eaten them for breakfast the next morning if they had been open. The fact that the food was delicious AND the fact that they made us some food after-hours was just awesome, and enough to get them four stars. I loved this place, and would have really liked to try more on the menu!

We stopped by here on a whim for an early Saturday dinner. We were avoiding going home while we waited for the bug bombs we set off to diffuse and fully kill all the fleas that had just tried to move in. When we arrived at Steer Crazy the restaurant was empty but had two groups outside on the deck. By the way, that deck does have a view across PCH to Doheny State Park Beach and to the wide open Pacific Ocean. Not bad for views. We sat down and ordered drinks, me a 32oz Bass(on tap) and my wife a diet coke. 32 oz seems to be the size for a draft and is a screaming deal in a mason jar for $ 5. We ordered food: ½ rack pork ribs and pulled chicken sandwich with mac-n-cheese and corn on the cob sides. I asked for a savory, not sweet BBQ sauce to go with the ribs. The sauce was pretty good, it was their southwest sauce and is spicy, but not much like a BBQ sauce in thickness. The ribs turned out to be overcooked which is the easiest thing in the world to do. They were also missing the nice carmelized bbq sauce coating that I really expect on ribs. The mac-n-cheese was nice and rich and was made from large shell pasta and real cheese. The corn on the cob was grilled and had a delicious smoky flavor. The corn renewed my faith in grilled corn with that single ear. The pulled chicken sandwich had slaw on it and was a nice tasty treat. We had the«Sweet Sisters Brownie» for desert. They do set it on fire at the table which always garners some fun points! The brownie was rich and served with ice cream. We work it over pretty well but left a good bit on the plate. Not because we didn’t like it but because it was big and rich and enough is enough. Overall I really want to like this place. It’s got a low-keyed local vibe and we could tell that there were some regulars coming in for dinner. Over cooking ribs at a BBQ joint is a major, MAJOR flaw. The draft beer price is killer. We might even come by again, but I sure as heck won’t order the ribs again.

Love it, Love it! I’ll keep it simple: This place has awesome home style Hawaiian food. I had this delicious BBQ pork sandwich that came with Kings sweet roles and this amazing avocado/guacamole potato salad… Holy Crap sooo good. The other thing about this place is the view. It has a an awesome view of Doheny Beach on any given day. Great Hawaiian food, awesome atmosphere, good people, good hang. Oh and I heard that they’ll sometimes roast a whole pig and turn the joint into a buffet!

I drove down to this place from Costa Mesa for my Mom’s birthday hoping this would be slightly more extravagant of a dinner than my family usually has as it was a special occasion… We all got the«ribs from around the world» which pretty much fed 7 of us for 60 bucks. We got coconut rice with macaroni and cheese sides, along with a salad(some sides cost extra). The problem with this restaurant is that all of their food(or at least what we ordered) is just plain mediocre. And it didn’t help that their atmosphere was similar to being at the corner burger joint where you and your friends used to hang out back in high school. And let me add that I have no problem with burger joints, it’s just that if your prices are restaurant caliber, then I think it’s natural to expect restaurant quality food/experience. Everything was served in tupperware-esque plastic baskets lined in wax-paper, and you eat off of disposable paper plates. I was surprised that the silverware was actually made of metal. The coconut rice/mac-n-cheese was good, but just way too small in portion. The ribs that we got weren’t really seasoned at all, so they try to trick you into believing that«it’s part of the experience» by making you squeeze your own barbecue sauce out of these plastic tubes onto your plate. For dessert we got a tray where you make your own smores. I thought it was a clever idea, and even though the smores tasted slightly like gasoline fuel(there was no room for a campfire on the table), I enjoyed the experience. I was later informed that you can buy the smore kit at Walmart for under 10 bucks. I wasn’t surprised… Overall, I was not impressed at all. The whole time I was wishing we had picked the 2 restaurants right next door… sushi and the packed Italian place next door sounded good after that meal. In summary: Pros: –Very friendly service; you feel like you’re eating at somebody’s house and that the waitress really wants you to enjoy your meal, almost as if her reputation is on the line. –Price is pretty reasonable, even more reasonable with my $ 100 gift card that I got for $ 50. Cons: –Mediocre food, small portions –Poor ambiance, dining experience We all agreed that we won’t go back.

Parking is a bee-with-an-itch on the weekends. There are these bars and restaurants in the same mall and it gets a little loud outside. Supposed to be a place with an Hawaiian twist in its food. It’s a small place with just a few tables. Tons of peanut shells on the floor and they serve drinks in glass jars. We had the smoked shrimp«martini» as the starter and it was OK. The smoky flavor of the shrimps were kinda strange for me. We had the Kalua pork, which was SUPER sweet — not something I like; and the brats — very good, a lot of food but takes a LONG time to cook. One time I had to send back the brats back multiple times because it was not cooked all the way through. The sides we’ve had for the two times we were there: avocado potato salad, asian salad, coconut steamed rice and MAC&CHEESE. You MUST try their mac & cheese, it was sooooo good. Very cheesy and creamy with big macaroni’s. Vibe there is very casual and the staff are very friendly. Occasionally they have the real Kalua pig roasting done — I guess a Luau kinda event. We missed the time when they were gonna have it.

For OC restaurant week, my friends and I came late on Sunday evening and we were the last people in the restaurant. Service was great, they stayed behind and didn’t rush us through our food or anything, were very helpful. Decoration is relaxed, and you get a coconut bowl of peanuts from a huge peanut barrel where you get to throw the shells on the ground. Reminds me of Clearmans back in LA. My friends and I all shared the«man platter» which at first didn’t look a lot of food… as in I thought I could do it on my own, but man was I wrong. It was freaking delicious and way too much food for one person. Ribs were great, pulled pork was amazing and kahlua pork-ish, and surprisingly one of my favorite parts were the beans! I don’t even like beans, but they were good(and covered in fritos). We also shared the Alligator and Kangaroo kabobs, which was definitely for the novelty of it. I’ve had alligator before, but I think I like this bbq-kabob way better than the other, «lightly» bbqed? way that tastes like fishy chicken. This kabob was much better. Kangaroo I’ve never had, and it LOOKS like beef, feels like tender beef, and tastes like… beef with a tiny bit of lemon. Afterwards my friend and I looked at each other, nodded our heads sagely and agreed that it’s a very kangarooey taste. Oh, and it comes with a 32 oz «pirate brew» which is a big ass beer.

Was at Sunsets next door and if you want food, Steer Crazy is the option. Ordered the brisket. HORRIBLE! Bone Dry and tough. Waitress saw that it was bad and asked if I would like something else after two bad bites. OK, can you replace this with the riblets? She comes back with the same brisket soaking in what looked like water and another serving of BBQ sauce. Just as bad. Apparently the riblets are a «Specialty item» according to them. I guess specialty item means appetizers, because that is where it’s listed on the menu. Coconut rice and spicy cole slaw were good. So whatever the hell that does for you.

I love hunting for good BBQ and this place is so close to home, that I thought it would be too good to be true that I could walk to my rib heaven. I hate to say I won’t be back. I had the ribs and I couldn’t finish them, they didn’t taste like real BBQ. Took them home and still didn’t eat them. My ever hungry 15 year old son, didn’t touch them, they got thrown out. Ouch. It looked like they are more of a kitchen for the bar next door and that’s their main source of income. I can understand people drinking too much at the bar and thinking this is tasty. My wife had the Dirty Martini Steak Appetizer and she thought it was unique and tasted good. So with that said it was fun to eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor, but not for $ 70

Do you love meat? Are you a flavor craver? SteerCrazy just opened a few months ago and you have to try it! The restaurant overlooks the Ocean in Capo Beach. It is small but fun and funky, kind of looks like a pirate ship. It is the brain child of Chef Phil who should totally be a food tv celebrity. He has tattoos, wears a cowboy hat and is obsessed about Good BBQ. For Restaurant Week he is featuring the Man platter… Half rack of ribs Brisket Pulled Pork Beans and Weenies Fritos & a 32oz Hillbilly Pirate Brew all for only $ 20 Also serving BBQ Kangaroo and Alligator(I’m skipping that one but know a few people who are ready and willing) I haven’t had a chance to eat at the restaurant yet but have had them cater an event before and there food is delicious.

stopped by this joint during my business trip last week by a recommendation of the BestWestern next door. A+ on the $ 5.0032oz beers and free peanuts but the food was disappointing. ordered the chicken drumsticks and 2 sides of avocado mash and peppered coleslaw. the chicken was just normal grilled drumsticks with homemade sauce on the side. the sauces were good but the chicken was nothing special. the sides were even worst. no flavor and very bland until i added some of the bbq sauce on them. i think i had better slaw and mash from the safeway deli. but i would definitely come again to try something else and for the view and $ 5 beers!

Phil, the chef, looks like Dave Grohl. The food is inventive and delicious. It’s small and cozy – in a good way. The ocean view is fabulous. The prices are a fair value. Try the avocado mashed potatoes. Trust me. Also, for dessert you must have the apple dessert – try it with chocolate ice cream and tell Phil that Jamie and Sabrina sent you in for it. Eat here!
