Great breakfast. Got the big batter and an omelette. OJ was good, coffee was good, service was good! Definitely recommended for breakfast.

The food was great. Service was nice and if you stay in the villa you get a $ 30 discount. Had a great big breakfast for only $ 3.00. Not including tip.

Went to the mad batter after a many year absence. Still rather good All three members of our party had the crab cake sandwich it came with hand cut French fries and pickles The crab cake was a very nice size with lump crabmeat very little fillet tasty and delicious. It came one a brioche roll which was good also along with fresh lettuce and tomato The hand cut French fries were very tasty but barely warm. I’m sure hot they are spectacular but barely warm they were just good Service was friendly courteous and quick. The bar was packed Sunday night is open mic run by m w Murphy and is really great. All of the players were above average semi pro or professional musicians and the wide musical selections made for a very enjoyable evening If in cape may give it a chance

Dinner on our first night in Cape May and it was quite good. Although it gets rave reviews for breakfast we took advantage of our B & B for that meal on all 3 days. Dinner started with the Soup of the Day followed by the Crab Cake and Fish & Chip entrees. The crab cakes were large and I took one«home» while my wife did the same with her fish. Not a BYOB so we had a Founders IPA along with a nice glass of Cab Sauv. Live entertainment in the bar area was a nice touch with good background music. The bar was crowded when we finished dinner so we decided to head out. Will come again.

Goodness gracious this place is amazing! From it’s historic surroundings to it’s upbeat, awesome servers to its oh-so-generous portions, this place is a must for a meal in Cape May. It was my first visit, but I know I’ll return every time I’m in Cape May. I ordered the House Made Corned Beef Hash, and my boyfriend had the Croustade. The hash and eggs were made very well. The croustade was the perfect amount of spicy.

A must stop for breakfast. Had the chorizo and eggs. Best breakfast I’ve had in a while. Great staff and coffee wasn’t bad either.

Second visit here(2014& now 2015) — had the oatmeal pack cakes with blueberries last year; fluffy & delicious! Having the country breakfast with ham, etc. If you like coffee, it is a hearty medium-dark roast — just he way I like it! The Country is a breakfast classic!

First time diner here, and me and my girlfriend will definitely be headed back. I went with pancakes(with sugar free syrup in a tin pourer), and my girlfriend got the Chesapeake Bay Benedict I believe. Everything was great. Waitress was awesome. Coffee refills, quick service, and very polite. Loved the atmosphere, sat outside on the patio. We were given a choice of patio or the back terrace, and after walking around the terrace looked better, but we’ll sit there next time. This was a great place, I just honestly think it’s a great breakfast/lunch spot and it’s in a perfect spot.

Full disclosure, we were compted. As a part of the stay with the Carroll Villa Hotel, we got free breakfast. That being said, solid spot. The portions are huge and they don’t skimp on any ingredient. Wife got the lobster and claw meat omelette and I got the eggs with the house made chorizo. Hers came out packed with lobster, tomato and peppers, slightly underseasoned. Mine came out as a breakfast burrito and I added a side of guacamole. Everything was fresh made, but what took it was the fresh Juice of the day. Orange, pear and some vegetable, well balanced and I ordered two. We couldn’t finish either plate as they were both huge. Would probably come back even if we were not compted. **came back for dinner one night and breakfast the next morning(bed and breakfast, duh) and while the food was still great, the service was lacking.

We had fond memories of this place when we came to Cape May two summers ago, so we decided to come back and bring the troops. We made a reservation ahead of time because we had 8 hungry heads, which was a very good call. We got there a few minutes early and they were able to seat us pretty much right away. This place is definitely kid friendly — they had the high chair set up right away, a mad hatter coloring page and crayons, and I even noticed that they had removed the fork and knife from the place setting — a very thoughtful touch. Let’s do this in list form: THEGOOD –The crabcakes –The service — our waitress was on her game with refills and timing our order /food delivery — THEBAKEDBRIEAPPETIZER(but we could have used some crackers to spread the cheese on) — The margarita(so says my sister in law) THEBAD –The pizza was not the best. Cheese a bit rubbery. Two-year old said«Not very good mama.» — Parking. The restaurant next door has valet, but alas — we had to park 0.8 miles away. THE… WEIRD There was live music at the bar, which my daughter was very excited about. The music wasn’t bad. But it was kind of strange. I felt like all the musicians may have been perma-stuck in a flowerchild LSD flashback. There were some interesting sounds being made. But it wasn’t awful — just… interesting. A little loud when you’re right at the bar. All in all, we had a nice meal. Good for groups, good for kids.

We’ve been traveling by motor home for 5 months now. We went through Canada and the northeast. We’ve had many lobster rolls in Nova Scotia and Maine, but none compares to the lobster salad sandwich at the Mad Batter. Loaded with lobster and full of flavor, I was glad I had enough leftover to enjoy it again later in the day. My boyfriend had the lobster and crab omelet. It was equally delicious and plentiful. The leftover heated up great for breakfast the next morning. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We were seated at a sunny table on the patio, and before I could ask if there was a shadier place to sit, she asked if we wanted to change tables to get out of the sun. Very considerate!

The mad batter is located in a very good spot in Cape May, It is close to all the shops, to the beach and more other bars and restaurants. We came here for dinner before heading to Craney’s. I started with a Margarita and it was pretty good, a bit strong as it should be. I had turkey burger with blue cheese and a side salad instead of fries. My burger was pretty good, I just thought the bun was too big for the actual burger so it was more bread than meat. But i ended up finishing the burger by itself. The service was fast and everything was done right and came out right on time. I would probably go back again, the prices were reasonable and the drinks were decent.

I have never been to the mad batter for lunch or dinner, but I have for breakfast! I usually sit on the front porch, and there is a nice breeze. Although, it gets quite annoying when the hostess is constantly barking out people’s names! Otherwise, I like the food here! The bacon is e.x.c.e.l.l.e.n.t! It is the right mix between crispy, fatty, and savory. It is very good. I had the kid’s french toast, and it was a small serving size, so I gulped it down. It was very tasty, a good plate of old fashioned french toast.

I thought this place was really hyped up. I saw all the reviews and pics and really wanted to try it, but overall, it’s ok. We were starving by the time we sat because we waited for like 45 minutes. The patio only accommodates tables of four or less, so we had to sit inside. I ordered the crabs Benedict with spinach and sweet potato fries. It was good but not out of this world. I did enjoy my orange crush drink, though. I would overall describe this place as a cute, greasy spoon place with fun drinks. I like the idea of the«Mad Batter» next to the Lewis Carrol Inn, but the menu could step up its creative game and the food could be even tastier!

Came here at 8:30am and the porch was only available for parties of 4 or less so my family of 5 was led to the back of the restaurant. At least there’s a good amount of natural light and a view of a small garden with fish pond. Our server was pleasant and helpful. We ordered blueberry pancakes, cheese omelette, bacon & spinach omelette, kids pancakes, and the special lobster and spinach eggs Benedict. The portions were generous and the food came out in a timely manner. Everyone enjoyed their meal except for me(lobster Benedict). I wish I’d asked if the spinach was fresh. It wasn’t. It was steamed which made the English muffin very soggy. And the lobster was somewhat dried out. All in all an okay 3 star experience.

Another wonderful lunch at the Mad Batter! My mother and I came down to Cape May for the day for her birthday. We enjoyed a lovely leisurely lunch on the front porch. My mom enjoyed a mimosa and the avocado & bacon grilled cheese(a lunch special that day) with fries and I enjoyed a glass of prosecco and a big salad with cranberries, walnuts, blue cheese and an order of grilled chicken on the side. It was a beautiful lunch and we weren’t rushed at all.

This is an amazing deal for happy hour. 2 martinis off their list: the sexy lexy and limoncello for $ 9. Can’t beat it. Didn’t order food, but eyed others yummy looking salad and pizzas. Ate breakfast there this morning. Bf loved the house made corned beef. I loved the omelet with crab and mushrooms. Both served with home fries(which could be crispier) and Multigrain toast. Also, they have multiple vegan and gf options.
