Fish Tale Grill by Merrick Seafood

Hot Lobster sandwich is very small.
Grouper stuff with crab — not fresh grouper. Crab is not visible. Lots of bread crumbs with crab meats.
No mojitos. No sweet ice tea. No piña colada. Every drink we asked the restaurant does not offer. Just basic beers and wines.

Crab Cakes should be called «Silver Dollar Cakes». Place is decent, but not 4 or 5 stars. Minnesota quality seafood.

Very nice hostess. Didn’t mind seating one. 20 minute wait but no problem.
Nice bread with sun dried tomato butter. Very nice server Clara.
Crab cake app was all bread. I thought I saw crab meat but I was mistaken.
Wanted local/​gulf shrimp but everything they had was imported from Indonesia. Went for the New England Scallops platter broiled.
The Manhattan Clam Chowder was awesome. Lots of clams and delicious. Cup was a coffee mug, nice touch.
Scallops were perfect. Lightly seasoned and just cooked through. Side of onion rings were very nice.
Would have been 5 star if not for the crab cakes. I will be back next time I am in town.

Lunch with my dad and my spouse yesterday: we got there a little early so dining room was nearly empty, greeted warmly by Coral who apparently knew my dad well and they hugged and she ushered us to a booth. Menu was rich with variety but not overwhelming, we ordered fried whole belly Ipswich Clams, broiled grouper, which were delicious. Coral surprised us with a sampler of fabulous chowders and bisque which were each excellent! Dining room filled completely by the time we finished so evidently the word is out, this is the place to go for seafood in Cape Coral.

Great place to eat fresh fish! I came here with my mom and the food was really good. The service was fast and enjoyable. They have a nice patio and they have someone playing guitar which makes the atmosphere really relaxing. I will come back again for sure :)

The wait for a table is too long!

Stopped in as Fish tales had great reviews. I had the hot lobster roll, filled with 6 or 7 small lobster claws for $ 18.00. My wife had the broiled shrimp dinner, small shrimp, skimpy and overpriced for what you get. Place was packed, I don’t get it. OK at best.

My husband and I stopped in for late lunch. Fabulous service Gina! Thanks. Décor upscale and noise level low. We shared steamed spiced shrimp yummy and fresh. My husband had lobster roll. Fresh tasting and plumb a good portion. I had fish and chips big piece of flaky fish. And key lime pie for dessert! Will be back.

Had a fantastic dinner at Fish Tale last night. Sea food is really fresh and one of the best lobster rolls we have ever had. Others in our party had the salmon which was a large portion and the broiled shrimp were done to perfection. Service was great and the deco is very well done. Definitely recommend for sea food!

My mom and I stopped here for lunch after a morning of shopping due to the chilly weather. The food was amazing. She had the Ipswich clams and I had the grouper tacos. Both meals were excellent as well as the service. Would have given a 5^th star if the Bloody Mary was better. I will definitely be back!

They have really upgraded their dining area since my first review. I have eaten here several times since and it is always very good. The indoor dining area is MUCH better and now they even have a small bar. The outdoor seating has always been nice. My husband is from Boston and is thrilled to have found some good clams. Another place I will keep in the rotation.

Fresh fish in a friendly environment.
This was my second visit to Merrick’s Fish Tale Grill. I was impressed with the quality of the food and the service on my first visit, that I came back with my wife and enjoyed lunch on the patio on my second visit.
We each ordered the Seafood Platters. One was a «daily special» with seafood stuffed grouper, shrimp in a buffalo style sauce (similar to what you’d find if you ordered buffalo chicken wings), and blackened scallops. Cole slaw and rice pilaf were also included in my order.
My wife ordered the platter featured on the menu, and it featured blackened grouper, blackened shrimp, and blackened scallops. Sweet potato fries and cole slaw came with her order.
And we each had a beer. They have a nice selection, including some locally produced craft beers.
Our server was friendly. She was from somewhere in New England. Her accent gave her away.
There are several tables on the patio outside, facing the street. It’s not an especially busy street, but it can get loud when a truck rolls by. There are also tables inside the restaurant, but when you’re from the wintry Midwest, and you’re visiting Florida, and you’re eating seafood, you’re gonna take advantage of some al fresco dining when you can, especially if the the temperature is 50 degrees warmer than back home.
Prices are reasonable. Portions are just right… not too generous, but not skimpy either.
There’s a market next door selling fish and shellfish. I haven’t checked it out thoroughly yet, but plan to in the future.

Der Fish Tale Grill ist ein richtig gutes Seafood Restaurant. Hier kann sehr schön in Lokal selber oder auch auf der tollen Terrasse sitzen und das gute Wetter genießen. Wenn man seinen Platz eingenommen hat dann kann man hier herrliche Seafood Menues Schlemmen. Ich hatte mir den Grouper Picatta bestellt, tja was soll ich dazu sagen, das Gericht war einfach große Klasse. Der Service hier ist sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und immer schnell erreichbar. Die Getränke kamen immer punktgenau und hervorragend Temperiert. Dieses Restaurant wird in Zukunft zu unseren Stamm Lokalen gehören.

Either I came on the worst night possible or these people are lying about their reviews lol. It wasn’t even a busy night due to the gloomy weather and rain here and there, but I came with a friend to have dinner. Hostess sat us outside. Got our bread which was like any typical bread. Later came the salad which basically tasted like a wrapped package salad, very displeased. After waiting for our entrees, it started sprinkling hence it was already windy so we were getting wet, my friend asked the hostess if we can sit inside and she says «we’ll see what we can do» uhm okay. Waiting and waiting. 5 – 10 mins pass. We See a couple come in and as the hostess is about to seat them next to us, I’m sure they saw that it was raining so the hostess takes them inside, excuse my language but are you F**in kidding me!!! Seat your damn customers who have already been there first waiting, before you seat people who just walk in the door! So as the server came to bring our food by this time I’m pissed and wet, I asked him to give us a seat inside. OH SO WHAT DO YOU KNOW, THEY NOW HAVE A SEAT FOR US! Trust me, it gets worse after this. We get out food, I got seafood pasta and my friend got filet. As he is cutting into his filet what do we find?!! UNCOOKED MEAT. Literally looked like he cut open a cow and put it on his plate. We flagged a server and told her the meat wasn’t even cooked. All she did was grab the plate and said oh I’ll have them fix that. Gee an apology would be nice at this point right? Ya, no apology at all. Manager came by after said sorry then left in a hurry, yea, very sincere right? Shake my head… So by this point I lost my appetite barely ate my pasta. Probably had 3 bites. Literally never coming back to this place ever. Told my friends the same night about this place since I had high hopes for it.
First off, get a new hostess who can do her job, she’s a joke. I’ve been a hostess and server for over 4 years. If she had the work ethic in my town (Los Angeles) she would be fired in a heart beat.

Had lunch with family, we had Coral as our waitress (she was great even thou a Red Sox fan) go yanks. We had gulf oysters, seafood ceviche and gravlox all was so fresh and delish for our entrees we had Ipswich clams, fish & chips, and grouper sandwich’s all was so good We would definitely come back. We got the lobster bisque to go, just ate it and it’s one of the best I have ever eaten.

Started off a little slow. Took about 15 minutes to get service. I think it was just an honest mix up though. When we did get our server he did an excel the job. Food came out fast, and it was excellent. I had the surf and turf. VERY VERY GOOD! I really like how the place is decorated. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the mix up at the beginning. They did an excellent job redeeming themselves.

Just tried the Fish Tale Grill, had a great lunch, very fresh, great menu, and New England seafood on the menu, even steamers!!!

Doesn’t deserve to be rated more than 3 stars. Ordered a seafood tower, the lobster was ice cold, not fresh cooked! Did’t get any picks or small seafood forks. Had to ask server 2x for napkin, finally got anoter server to get to one. I could understand if they were busy but our server only had 1 other table. Forget trying to get warm/​hot butter.

Absolutely fabulous lunch! I had the Ginger Teriyaki Ahi Tuna which was perfectly prepared! My mother-​in-​law tried Lion fish — an invasive fish they’re encouraging us to eat. She was quite impressed with it.
Absolutely will go back! So much on the menu sounded delicious!

Driving south on 75 around lunch time, we decided to hit this highly rated joint, even though we could tell that it was not very close to the highway. Excellent decision on our part, because the food was definitely worth the detour.
Located in the town of Cape Coral, the patio table we sat at just overlooked the nearby street and street parking. Fortunately they had fans blowing, and it was very comfortable sitting outside. I don’t think you go for the ambiance of this place, you just go for the food.
Our 42-​year veteran server named Coral was outstanding, and gave excellent suggestions, in addition to bringing us samples of both the lobster bisque and the clam chowder. Since bisque is so rich, I can only ever eat a couple of spoonful, but I can honestly say this was some of the best lobster bisque I have had in my life — creamy, buttery, with lobster chunks — it was eyes-​roll-​back-​in-​the-​head good.
For my meal I had the lobster roll — comes as your choice of cold, in a lobster salad, or warm, with melted butter. Coral said ‘warm’, so warm it was. Outstanding. The lobster tasted incredibly fresh, and the toasted buttered roll it was on was perfect. Sandwich came with choice of side item — again I went with Coral’s recommendation and tried the sweet potato fries, and these too were some of the best I have ever had. They actually still tasted like sweet potatoes! Served nice and hot, they had a dipping sauce on the side, which I thought was a nice touch.
After you eat, make sure you go check out their fish market. If you’re smart, you’ll bring a cooler, so you can take some goodness home with you. I’ve already sent friends here, who called me to tell me how much they, too, loved it. Go!

Excellent fresh seafood. The restaurant is attached to the market. They created a shrimp cocktail for me since it was not on the menu. The seafood chowder was full of fish and was very good. No complaints on the macadamian and cranberry sea bass. My only complaint was the water tasted horrible after it was refilled. Service was pretty good. You can eat inside or on deck. Prices reasonable. See pictures.
