Love love ensaymadas made by Chari! I’ve tried it all… from Ube, red velvet, orginal and they are simply amazing. I could eat an entire box of her ensaymadas :-) I always pick it up from Canyon Country and it is totally worth the drive.

been missing ny’s filipino bakeries especially their ensaymada, this is as close as it gets right here. the best! i got the ½ reg ½ queso two days ago and needless to say, i have to place another order because they are gooooonnneee!

I’ve been following Ensaymada project for about a year now on Instagram. I’ve been wanting to try their ensaymada for so long now. It’s very easy to order online but I do prefer to go to a store and look at everything i want in person. Unfortunately the majority of stores that have the ensaymadas are in the northern LA area and they are based in Santa Clarita. I’m never there…
My cousin ended up asking me what I wanted for my bday and I told her I want to try ensaymada project. She ended up ordering me Chari’s choice 1 dozen. My dozen included red velvet, Oreo, classic cheese, ube, pink milk chocolate, and mango. 2 of each flavor. I didn’t like that the flavors weren’t labeled. They have 17 flavors and post often to Instagram so it will be easy to figure out. Of the 6, my favorite was the pink milk chocolate. It has a milk chocolate cream in the middle. The other 5 didn’t have anything inside. Everything tasted amazing. The bread was so yummy and I love the different flavors on top. Much different than the traditional cheese ensaymadas. The ensaymadas were still good even a few days after it arrived.
I definitely want to try more of the flavors soon. Ensaymadas are always great with my morning coffee. :)

My brother in law bought a box for thanksgiving this year. I was in love with the Oreo and red velvet ensaymadas. I can’t help it, I love bread! Especially great tasting desserts like these.

Various ensaymada flavors from the Ensaymada Project were available for sale at the pop-​up shop inside Scoops OC in Santa Ana. Having heard about the Ensaymada Project on social media, I was curious to try one.
1. What is ensaymada?
It is described by the Ensaymada Project as a «butter bun.» More specifically though, an ensaymada is a sweet Filipino pastry with origins from Spain. It is usually topped with butter and sugar.
2. What is the Ensaymada Project?
The Ensaymada Project serves ensaymada with a modern twist. Flavors include ube, red velvet, blueberry cream cheese, salted caramel, and Nutella.
3. How did it taste?
I don’t think the Ensaymada Project does justice to the Filipino classic. We went with the blueberry cream cheese ensaymada, and It was a major miss for me. Unlike the original ensaymada, which is known to be moist, the blueberry cream cheese ensaymada was very dry. To make matters worse, the blueberry cream cheese on top tasted artificial; I felt like I was consuming plastic. The berry tale at 85 degrees is a much better tasting option if you’re looking for a blueberry cream cheese bread. For those on the look-​out for good ensaymada, Muhlach Ensaymada and Mary Grace are the best, but unfortunately are Philippines-​based chains.

The BEST ensaymada I had so far here in SoCal. We accidentally stumbled upon them last Filipino town festival.
We bought ube & original. The ensaymada is has the right amount of sweetness and is very fluffy. The topping is the bomb.
I also tried the red velvet from White rabbit Fusion Café.
Can’t wait to try the other flavors too.

First tried these yumminess from 626nightmarket… after that, i was sold!!! I had to get my hands and teeth on them again lol! So I emailed Chari and ordered 3 dozens to be picked up from one of their outlets. I just want to commend Chari for responding so quick and she was very kind and open to what I wanted… i have no complaints!!! Customer service 5+++
The ensaymada i got were the following:
* Dulce de leche — my sweet tooth is satisfied! One of my fave!
* Ube Halaya — my coworker liked this ‘coz of the ube jam, a little sweeter than the ube one.
* Ube — simple but good. The ube topping wasn’t overly done, not too sweet.
* Red velvet — different, but good. Not my fave though, just coz im not into red velvet flavors. But those that are will appreciate and enjoy this.
* Boston crème — dark chocolate topping with custard filling… it was ok, not my fave tho… the dark chocolate did not blend as well as the custard and the bread.
* Classic — nothing can beat the classic, the best one! It just brings me back home, the bread is so soft, not dry, balanced in sweetness and oh soo good!
Almost alll flavors are good ‘coz the ensaymada bread is just so soft, not too sweet and not dry.

Amazing! I ordered blueberry cream, queso de bola, mango, red velvet, maple bacon, mocha nutella. SO amazing! Even the traditional queso de bola blew my mind. Chari is SO friendly, I am planning to come back very soon!
edit: i take it back, the banoffee is the best (banana flavor, toffee and walnut, chocolate center) it’s the the best dessert i’ve ever tried! AMAZING!!!

I don’t know where to begin but I just tried my first ensaymada and WOW! I can probably eat 6 of them. I know… I know… I shouldn’t. I ordered a variety as a gift for my boyfriend. I also ordered extra for me. I’m so glad that I did. So far, I tried the ube macapuno. The ensaymada is very moist, soft and light. They melt in your mouth. I can’t wait to try the rest of my order. Call me selfish but I will not be sharing with anyone. Hahaha. I’m serious.

Honestly I always thought ensaymadas in general were just ok, but this place has made me a believer. Ensaymada project changes the ensaymada game. Raises the bar on ensaymadas to a whole ‘nother level.

Let me tell you, it takes me about an hour to get here WITHOUT traffic, but my boyfriend and I think the drive is absolutely worth every mile! We first bought all six of the ensaymadas the owner made that day which were: ube macapuno, ube, original, maple bacon, mocha nutella, and oreo brownie. Right when we took our first bite, we immediately got up and ordered six more… no joke. Love at first bite.
My favorite was definitely the oreo brownie. Omg the filling was to die for. But seriously, all of the other flavors, except the mocha nutella, I would rate a 10 out of 10. It’s amazing when at room temperature, but EVEN BETTER when it’s warmed up. The dough literally melts in your mouth. It is the PERFECT mixture of savory and sweet. My boyfriend and I finished 18 ensaymadas in two days and we were so sad when we ran out.
The owner was also super friendly and sweet. I know this place has a very bright future ahead of it and I can’t wait till they expand to somewhere closer because I will definitely be their number one customer!

We were at White Rabbit Café ordering sisig burritos not too long ago. Low and behold there were a few ensaymadas in front of us made by The Ensaymada Project. I’ve seen photos of The Ensaymada Project on Instagram and became intrigued.
Ensaymada is a sweet bread traditionally with butter and sugar on top. There are variations with shredded cheddar cheese on top or with macapuno (sweet young coconut) or the bread is flavored with ube and pandan. The Ensaymada Project expands the typical variety of 18 ensaymadas to include American flavors such as moca nuttella, blueberry cream cheese, red and blue velvet variations, green tea red bean, maple bacon to name a few. They also have they traditional Filipino flavors.
Thanks to Caroline V.‘s sweet tooth, I was able to try the mocha Nutella. The bread is a brioche which is sweet and marbled with Nutella. The top is frosted with a mocha icing.

I encountered this vendor at the 626 Night Market this past Labor Day weekend. I originally only bought one ensaymada since I was pretty full. I’m so glad I ate it right there because I discovered how they should taste!
I had only had these growing up from my mom who can be considered part Filipino from association through a majority of her Filipino coworkers. She would bring home a box of ensaymadas from Red Ribbon or Goldilocks. When I told the owner and cashiers this, pretty much the whole booth gave me this «Oh no, try this!» as they heat one up for me to eat now. After sharing the first one on the spot with my boyfriend, I happily bought a half dozen more. Though I am now sad, that I have finished them few days later between the two of us. I ordered a majority of the original queso and a few of the ube and one mango. The other fruit flavors were delicious.
I recommend them all and want to try the other flavors she has! There’s a lot of love put into these soft and not overly sweet pastries. I will try to stalk The Ensaymada Project to see where they pop-​up next or order for shipping once it is available.

we bought some from you tonight at 626 night market and these are the best things I’ve tasted! this is how ensaymadas should’ve been done since the very beginning! They’re so fluffy and just all sorts of deliciousness exploding on my taste buds! I can’t wait to order from you guys in the near future! Bless you for making such a delicious, well-​worth product. SOOOOOO good! Chari the owner is so nice too! Mocha nutella & oreo brownie are my favs!

I ordered 18 ensaymadas this past Saturday, 12 were gifted to a friend for her birthday and 6 were mine to keep, although mom ate one! Regardless, the $ 48 spent was well worth it.
Ordering was easy and flexible. Chari, the owner, let me know which of the flavors she had available and confirmed my order within minutes of my initial email order — amazing! I planned to pick them up Sat morning, but life set me behind a few hours and Chari was very accommodating and allowed me to come by for pick up at a later time.
I arrived at her residence and was warmly greeted; we promptly went through the exchange and I was on my way. I had assumed her residence was much closer (inland Canyon Country) but the exit is Soledad. The residence is just a couple turns from the exit, but just to visually set expectations for future customers as a heads up if they opt pick up. I personally thought I could swing by and be back home in 15 mins but it was more like 30 mins round trip.
Anyway, I stored the little gems in the fridge and they held up well for the party and over the next couple of days. Chari neatly packages them in a box and each ensaymada is individually wrapped, storing and heating instructions are conveniently included. *just remove the plastic wrapper and place the paper wrapper that encases the ensaymada + the ensaymada in the microwave, my sweet spot is 12 secs*
The flavors I got to try were:
Filipino classic — taste reminds me of a cheese danish
Blueberry cream cheese — taste reminds me of a cheese danish w/​blueberry
Mocha nutella — mocha chocolate taste — not too sweet!
Red velvet — nice surprise
Maple bacon — sweet (not too sweet) + savory!
Green tea — SUPER MATCHA-​y taste
I liked all of them, except for the green tea. I imagined it would taste creamier, but it stayed boldly true to the authentic Japanese matcha taste.
I was bummed I wasn’t able to try the ube or ube macapuno, but I know I will order again from Chari and hope to try those flavors as well as any others I haven’t tried just yet.
I guiltily enjoy them with my lattes in the morning or afternoon, yu-​um!

I LOVE THESE LITTLE, FILIPINO ENSAYMADAS! The owner concocts them at home and delivers/​ships them (nationwide too!). I’m glad she’s based in SoCal so it’s easier access to these lil goodies. She has like 7 or 8 main flavors and then occasionally she makes flavors like maple bacon. I needa try that one.
I got a dozen for about $ 30. Tried the Ube regular, Ube Macupuno, oreo, red velvet, regular and blueberry cream cheese. I really only liked the blueberry cream + oreo + Ube Macupuno. But to each their own. Definitely a fan of this local baker. I saw she’s getting more hype with famous people too as shown on social media. Can’t wait to eat more!

Growing up in Manila, ensaymada has been a favorite and almost every bakery in town had its own version, very simple actually. It is made with butter instead of (lard — the Spanish version) and topped with grated cheese (known locally as «queso de bola») and sugar. Back then, I was happy (and tummy satisfied haha) with the simple version specially when it just came out of the oven — yum!!!
Thanks to Chari from Ensaymada Project in Canyon Country, CA who took the simple ensaymada up several notches by topping it with different flavors that are — to say the least — heavenly!!!
I have always loved ube (purple yam) so that one is perched at the top of my list. But the other flavors are delish too — mocha nutella, mango. I ordered a dozen to give to one of my clients and she said the maple bacon was a hit as well. So I will have some of that, ube macapuno and dulce de leche for next time :-)
